La'Cael'Rah Eyther'Anea 3:25am, March 05, 2010 [Edit] [Delete] | Just a thread to list interesting places to see (or avoid) in the chat, to give the world a bit more depth.
The Forest of Night
This foreboding forest is so called because of the way the tree branches intertwine with each other; even at mid day, all but the outskirts of the forest is nearly pitch black. Many dangerous creatures prowl this forest, and many who venture into it may very well never return. Their are no paths through this forest, so not only is it dark, but confusing as well.
In addition to wild beasts, their are also feral woodland spirits that dwell here, playing games or seducing (and later, devouring) unwary travelers.
Only one tribe of Elves is known to call this forest home, the Eyther'Annea. The Eyther'Annea tribe is as wild as their environment. They do not understand the civilized folks way of living, because their own is so vastly different. These elves are wild and dour, byproducts of their environment. However, they are amazingly tenacious men and women; after all, only the strong can survive here.
The Forest of Night is home to strange flora that has adapted and managed to grow, despite the little amount of sunlight that reaches the ground.
One common example is Sunstalks, strange reeds that glow with a low, orange-yellow-red-ish light. They are called Sunstalks because of the illumination they give off (a full grown Sunstalk sheds light in about a thirty foot radius). The Eyther'Annea are known to grow these around and throughout their village.
Another example is the "Ebony wood" that grows in the forest. This wood seems to be rich with some form of raw magic. A talented magician can enchant this wood with far more ease than almost any other material in the world. The wood is also known for being incredibly durable, and long lasting. Unfortunately, the Elves are extremely protective of these sacred trees, so harvesting them is a dangerous undertaking, to say the least... but the price for such a rare magical commodity is enough to send many fools to their death. |
