Ill Nino 8:11pm, April 26, 2006 [Edit] [Delete] So it's coming to my attenion that people are trying to say that their character doesn't/wouldn't know who Magneto was ICly. To this...I'm calling BULLSHIT. So I've thought about it..and here's some footnotes on the Master of Magnetism that would be known WORLDWIDE. 1: Magneto attacked Cape Citadel missile base in a public battle. He was repelled by the X-Men in their first battle. 2: Magneto is the sovereign leader of Genosha. Either Magneto took it over by force, or they gave it to him out of fear of retaliation. That is still unclear. 3: Magneto sunk a Soviet nuclear submarine out of retaliation, and later rose it back out of the depths to extract it's nuclear missles, putting him in direct battle with the X-Men on the submarine's wreckage. 4: Magneto then detonated one of the aforementioned nukes in Soviet airspace, with the Russian and American governments watching him- killing two Soviet pilots who went to intercept him. Rogue was in the blast radius, saved only by Magneto himself. 5: Magneto has placed a rather large asteroid in geosynchronous orbit with the planet; Asteroid M AKA Avalon. Point 1 was published in the first ever X-Men comic, back in the 60's. Points 2-5 were handled in X-Men issue 1, 1992. Here's some more RECENT ones, though with the chat timeline, these are subjective to questioning. 6: Magneto took over NYC, ripping the very bridges that connect Manhattan Island to the rest of the world apart. It took Wolverine shanking Magneto to stop him. (X-Men: Planet X TPB) 7: Magneto also declared war on the world from Genosha, taking Charles Xavier captive. It took a brand new team of X-Men, led by Jean Grey-Summers to stop him. Through a very crafty gamble and late in the game assistance by Wolverine and Cyclops, they were able to stop Magneto. Notable in that was Wolverine stabbing Magneto through the chest, apparently killing him. (X-Men: Eve Of Destruction TPB) Points 6 and 7 are more recent arcs, but still publicly known things; especially to students at the Mansion. 8: Magneto is the leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, a publicly known evil faction of..what else? Evil mutants. Publicly known mutants in that include Toad, Juggernaut, Pyro, Avalanche, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Witch and Silver've gained anmnesty or whathaveyou..serving on the Avengers for a while. Mystique isn't so well known because she can shapeshift so easily. You wouldn't just be able to say "oh hey look Mystique boobies." ..no. Look at all of these points. Read them over. If you're still questioning it? Read Magneto's profile on Marvel Directory, and at Marvel.com. Magneto is a very well known global mutant terrorist. And ESPECIALLY if you live at the Mansion..you will know about Magneto. When he -first- came to the mansion, he didn't speak a lick of english and understood it even less. By the time he -did- start learning it, Magneto (in the chat) hadn't been an active terrorist or threat in shape or form for a long time, so he was never really spoken about. Of course, he's active again -now-, so Val would and has been learning about him, but before this point he was still pretty much in the dark. He hasn't particapated in Danger Room sessions, nor has he really been an active member of an X-Treme team, though he is placed on one. And that's just a fairly recent occurance in itself. There -are- people out there are sheltered enough to not know anything about him. Particularly in his relatively dormant state that he's been in over the last few years (From when T dropped him and I picked him up. I've just been playing him under the assumtion that he's stayed in Genosha and minded his own business. Also, Eve of Destruction and Planet X wouldn't be canon in here, as they occured after the chat really took off.). EDIT: Though, even if they don't know anything about him, they should at least be familiar with the name. Flat out not knowing or hearing of him at all is getting into the realm of far-fetched.
