Emi 12:33am, December 22, 2008 [Edit] [Delete] | Alright everyone, listen up! The Jedi temple on Ossus is guarded by Jedi at all times. This is not a place that you can simply sneak in to on a whim. Unless your character is a Force User and is able to mask his or her presence then you WILL be detected whether or not someone is actually there to play it out. We are not many RPing these days and our numbers have dwindled over the years but that does not mean that there would not be Jedi in the temple and in positions to defend it. Understand that as a Faction we number nearly 200, just because you do not see 200 people RPing does not mean that they do not exist. The Jedi order has suffered horribly in the past and has been making great strides to bring them back from the purge. Do you truly think that they would allow Bounty Hunters, Slavers, Dark Siders, Pirates, and all around bad guys to threaten their progress? Take into account that most of these Jedi are padawans or Knights and the Masters will defend these children with their lives. If you do not have a Jedi character yet you desire to play in the Jedi temple then from now on your need a very good reason to be there. With all of the attacks which have taken place in the past year, the Jedi are going to remain on high alert. If you are desperate for an RP and feel like taking on the Jedi for the sake of having something to RP, then from now on please speak to one of the admins about such an action. You need a better reason for attacking besides, "I think it would be fun." Almost every time this has happened it has ended in an ooc fight or the RP was nulled all together. So please, stop and think before you decide that your character is insane enough to attack the Jedi Order.
Now, onto the next order of business, this actually is in regard to the Jedi themselves. I want to clear up a few things in this post just so we are all on the same page. I spoke to a player the other night about how I wished to make some changes in the order to bring them back towards the "old school" style Jedi. Now, some of you have already IMed me with questions so I felt that answering them all here would make things a bit easier. When I say "old school Jedi" I'm of course referring to the Order pre-ANH. I understand that not everyone takes the books to be cannon, however for the sake of this RP and the future of the Jedi I wish to base our Order on what Luke was trying to accomplish. I am in no way saying that I wish to undo 30 years of history!
First: Respect is key. When you create a Jedi character I would like you to keep something in mind. You are here because you wish to help other people and learn to use your powers for good! This does not mean that people are without their flaws. We are all creatures with emotions and sometimes those emotions get the better of us. However, disrespect is something which is not going to be tolerated. If you are playing an apprentice that is taken under the wing of a Master then you own him all due respect. You might disagree with him but there are ways of making that opinion known without screaming it in their faces. The Jedi Order is a hierarchy. Understanding ones place and knowing when to speak, when to hold your tongue and the proper ways to voice your opinions is extremely important. If any one person continues to show a blatant disregard for this simple action then they could find themselves being dispelled from the order. This is not a joke. The Jedi are trying to come back from a horrible loss and they are trying to present themselves as a part of society once more. If we do not respect our own members then what chance do we have of becoming a unified faction?
Second: A dress code. If your character is a padawan or apprentice then you will be expected to dress according to the dress code. The traditional tunics will be required of younglings and older apprentices can choose between traditional or a more civilian look. If an apprentice chooses to dress in a civilian manner then he or she should keep in mind what they are representing when they are out in public. Knights and Masters will be given a bit more grace with their attire. Long pants with shirts or tunics, robes or jackets will be expected of the men. Long pants, long skirts, shirts, tunics, or other fitting tops will be expected from the females. Also flight suits, coveralls, and standard BDU's are acceptable for any Jedi as well. Again try to remember that you are making a statement about what the Jedi represent when you are out in public. The Jedi are trying to rebuild their order and this is a very important part of it. I really do not believe anyone should have a problem with this dress code, however if you do have an issue please leave a message on the board stating what else you believe should be allowed and it will be taken into consideration.
Third: Relationships of a Jedi. In the old days a Jedi having a relationship was something which was frowned upon. Times have changed my friends and even the best of us has a wife and a son now. Of course you are allowed to have a relationship! We need more force sensitive babies anyway! No seriously though, if you want to have your Jedi character in a relationship that is fine but please keep a few things in mind. Do not have a full on make out scene in the garden area or hallways of the temple. Younglings do not need to be seeing that nor do they need to feel the emotions that might be running through your body at the time. Now in the past in this chat we have had a few problems with Masters suddenly realizing they are in love with their students. This is NOT going to be allowed. Teachers do NOT have relationships with their students and this is grounds for being thrown out of the order. If you want two Masters to fall in love, go for it! Knights? Have fun! Two Apprentices? Sure! Younglings….not so much. I think you guys get the picture here.
Fourth: The Jedi temple. This is extremely important so if you haven’t read anything up until this point, PLEASE READ THIS! Now I know that we have a lot of people running around in this chat who are not Jedi. I love that this chat actually has variety like that! In SWRP the Jedi temple is located on the planet Ossus. It is much like the temple from Yavin IV and is surrounded by woods, lakes, and mountains. It is the perfect environment to train young Jedi. For some reason everyone and their pet dog has wanted to attack the temple. This is over!! We are Jedi, people, we can protect our own. Just because people are not in the chat doesn’t mean that there aren’t nearly 40 or so Masters running around which can kick your collective asses without lifting a finger. We have fighters ready to launch at a moment’s notice if we are attacked from space. We are NOT helpless or defenseless. If you are a bad guy then you are NOT getting into the temple. Every entrance has a guard and we have a very advanced security system that CANNOT be hacked into because of these attacks. We are not taking chances with the lives of our future Jedi! Of course this doesn’t mean that Jedi aren’t allowed out. This isn’t a prison. If they are old enough you can pretty much go anywhere you want and the city on Ossus is not that far away. Jedi do not always have to stay at the temple. Feel free to go out and do things if you want to RP! How else is a person supposed to get experience in life if they’re not out doing things?! If you are a civilian coming to the temple then you better have a very good reason to be there. Only Jedi are allowed into the archives and only Jedi are allowed into the training rooms. Now please don’t get me wrong here. I’m not saying that we don’t want non Jedi around. It’s just that this is our place of business. This is our school as well as a home and I think people have been forgetting that lately. No more attacking the temple just for kicks!
Fifth, playing a Jedi. I’ve been seeing a pattern arise in the Jedi that have been gracing the star wars chats lately. When you create a Force User you need to pick a side! You are either Light or you are Dark. Make a decision and stick to it! This whole “I’m light, no dark, no light, no dark!” thing has got to end. If you decide to turn your character then you better make damn sure it’s what you want to do because you will be facing the consequences for those actions. Yes, in some cases it can lead to very good RP…but if all of our Jedi are doing it then how does that make us look in the scheme of things? Now, there is something else which needs to be addressed and that is force powers. Yes, I know…it’s a horribly touchy topic these days what with the Force Unleashed now claiming we have the power to pull a Star Destroyer out of the air and throw DBZ energy balls at people…guys…play this smart, okay? Jedi are not all powerful and if you’re going to use the force then it’s going to drain your energy. That’s the whole reason why you don’t see Jedi just throwing and pushing storm troopers and droids around. It would drain them too quickly and then they wouldn’t be able to fight. Also, just because you’re a Jedi doesn’t mean you are suddenly a Master at everything! Every Jedi should have some skill which they excel at more than other. There are too many Jedi running around who can read minds and fight and fly, use force lightning, force throw, for jump and dance all at the same time. Enough of these super powered Jedi. I really want to see more realistic Jedi around this temple. I want to see ones who want to become healers, or pilots, or wish to learn more about their history. Not every Jedi has to be a fighting kick ass type person. If you make a Jedi from now on please say what your Jedi’s specialty is. Every Jedi is taught the basics of the force and fighting. You don’t always have to excel at the same things. Let’s see some more variety, people!
Now I know that I have made this whole thing incredibly long and if you read all of this then you are an amazing person and you deserve a cookie. I’m really hoping that if you guys have opinions about anything that I’ve said or if there is anything that I’ve missed that you would please voice it! I really think that we could make this room much more interesting if we worked together and started doing things which were more interesting than a simple attack on the temple. People want to see the Jedi RPing more and that is what I intend to make happen. In the future you can look forward to actual missions! Some of these might be as simple as “Go to this planet and see if there are any force users” or as complicated as “Go here and negotiate with these people.” I think all in all we can give the Jedi a much more interesting purpose and I look forward to seeing how this all plays out. Thank you so much for your time guys!
