Money: Copper Pieces are the usual exchange of currency for most people, equal to about 1 dollar. The exchange rate is as follows:
Silver Piece = 10 Copper Pieces
Gold Piece = 10 Silver Pieces= 100 Copper Pieces
Platinum Piece = 10 Gold Pieces = 100 Silver Pieces = 1000 Copper Pieces
Most people will only have copper or silver pieces at best. Usually nobles and trade groups would have access to the gold or platinum pieces.
Technology: Gunpowder, called the 'Black Powder' by Dwarves, is only available to them as it is used in their mining. Other races and Kingdoms have tried to gain the secret of the black powder, but the dwarves refuse to let this secret out, not wanting to give others a weapon when they use it only for their mining. As such, guns do not exist yet in this setting.
Steam power exists, once more used by the dwarves in their mining. They have built great machines that run on steam power that allowed them to heat and cool area, drill the depths, and used for other mining needs.
Airships existed in a previous age, the magics to make new ones lost. Only one still exists, and it is in the hands of the Gray Council, the mages uses it only sparingly in their use to move over great distances in their work, otherwise it is kept at their keep. The airship moves through the use of ancient runestones that allow the craft to levitate in the air and move. Only a trained mage can direct the craft.
