T 7:48am, July 14, 2009 [Edit] [Delete] | The following is a listing of races:
*Note: This list is being worked on.
The Gods and Goddesses - (*The Gods and Goddesses are not Playable.) The highest of all beings. They reside in the heavens and are above all other beings in existence. Creators of the world, and of the dragons. Their power is undisputed.
Dragons - (*Note: Dragons are not playable.) The first race, the greatest of all races on the face of the planet. Dragons possess the greatest magical power next to the Gods. Once sought to become Gods themselves, they created the race of mortals, which was the catalyst in the First War. Eventually the Dragons pulled back and came to an agreement with the Gods. One final act, they created a successor race to watch over the mortals. This race was the Dragonkin.
Dragons are massive beings with large wings and have the ability to breath magical breath. This breath ranges from elemental power like fire and water, to poison and other magics. Dragons are nearly immortal, not suffering the effects of age or sickness. However, they can be killed, but it is a monumental undertaking to slay a dragon. Nearly any part of a Dragon's body is valued among various groups.
Dragonkin - Children of the Dragons, and charged to teach the mortal races and guide them into an age of enlightenment and to help them better themselves. The Dragonkin helped the mortal races and taught them and helped them become civilized. However, with knowledge came a lust for power and eventually the races turned upon the Dragonkin and nearly wiped them out. Seen as the greatest threat to their want for power, the Dragonkin were driven from the lands and killed when they were found. The Gods, seeing this, took pity upon the Dragonkin, granting them the ability to change their forms into that of the other races, giving them the ability to blend in and no longer be hunted.
The Dragonkin in their natural state appear similar to Elves with pointed ears, slender forms, long shimmering hair and have talon tipped hands and feet, they also have a pair of large wings that allow them flight. When they change to look like one of the other races, they look like a perfect specimen of that race. Often concealing these perfect features with a cloak or other such changes to prevent them from being stared at by others. Dragonkin are also highly skilled magic users, due to their close relations to the dragons and their creation to be a middle ground between the mortals and the dragons.
Humans - Considered to be the least of the three great races (Elves, humans, and dwarves), in actuality they are the closest to the original mortal race created by the dragons. Humans have moderate lifespans and have no innate abilities like the dwarves or elves. However, the humans cover most of the world compared to the others. Able to more easily adapt to changes in the environment and are seen as the most hasty of the races by the longer lived species.
Elves - Considered to be the greatest of the three great races. They are fair to behold and seen as beautiful. Elves are slender and tall, with fair skin and pointed ears. They are tied to the woods and forests of the world. Living in harmony among the great forests, they have the greatest artists and musicians in all the lands. Their skill with the bow is great, and their magical ability is equally great. Elves that go the route of magic often end up druids, as their magical talents are often greater when used in harmony with that of nature. Elves also have sharper senses, better hearing and sight. The Elves have a great army and are well respected for their martial abilities, but they are even more so for their artistic talents. Their buildings are seen as marvels and their other crafts are widely sought out. To own an Elven weapon is a rarity, as the elves do not wish to arm other races, not wishing to be armorers, but artisans. Elves are also considered some of the best scouts and information gatherers around.
Dwarves - The great stone and metal craftsmen of the world. Living in hills and mountains, and even under the mountains where they mine, the Dwarves are short compared to many races, but they are strong and have a strong constitution, making them hard to kill, and harder to poison. To outdrink a dwarf is seen as a great accomplishment. Dwarves possess the ability to see in low lighting, they can even see in near pitch black surroundings, but there must be some small bit of light for them. They are also seen as the greatest builders in the land, able to create great statues and buildings out of stone that last longer than any in the lands. Dwarves are the leading in mechanical works. Having some steam powered equipment used in their mining, and in the heating and cooling of greater city-castles they have built.
Trolls - Living in the lands south of the civilized lands known as the Blasted Lands, they are a harsh people, large and strong. The tribes of Trolls war among themselves usually, but when a Troll King rises up and unites the tribes, they war with the other races, usually lasting several years before the Trolls turn on themselves and the tribes break apart due to long standing blood feuds. Trolls are considered one of the best fighting forces in all the lands, their rapid healing and strong constitution make them perfect soldiers in battle, if they can ever be united to fight.
Gnomes - Living in lands that borders the Dwarven Kingdoms, and are the constant enemy of the dwarves. The gnomes are of similar size to the dwarves, but not strong like the dwarves. They have yellow skin and make excellent trackers and assassins. They are also highly superstitious, seeing magical beings to be from the Gods and will capture them and worship them and keep them prisoner.
Orcs - They are easily noticeable due to their green to gray skin, lupine ears, lower canines resembling boar tusks, and their muscular builds. Orcs stand in a bent over shape making them appear as ape-like humans. Often seen as a sadistic race, the Orcs live in the lands beyond the Blasted Lands, often warring with the Trolls when they are not fighting the other races. The main reason the Orcs have not tried to expand their territory into the civilized lands is mainly due to having to fight past the Trolls. While they are stronger than the Trolls, they're not numerous nor as smart. Often relying on a tribal chief to lead them in religious rites and for protection in battles.
Merfolk - Living in the depths of the oceans, the merfolk have the upper body of a humanoid and the lower end like that of a fish. They are able to move easily though water and survive the crushing pressure of the deep depths where they make their home. They live at peace with other races, not seeking conflict, but when they are threatened, they are a force to be reckoned with. The merfolk are able to speak with other forms of life under the oceans, often using the great whales or squid to attack invaders and other hostile forces. Merfolk can survive for a limited number of hours outside the water, but they must return before they suffocate in the air, needing to breath the water. In battle, merfolk are often seen wielding tridents.
Werefolk - The werefolk are people who have the ability to transform from one form to another. The most common form seen is that of the Werewolf, made infamous during the War of the Druids. While other forms, like a panther, have been seen, most of those are rare next to that of the wolf form. The werefolk have a weakness to silver and only the oldest of them can change forms at will, taking a shape that is a hybrid between that of a man and that of the beast. The younger ones change with the coming of the night. Some of the werefolk embrace their animal side and become savage and primative, more beast than man and often refuse to return to their humanoid form, and some cannot do so after so long in their beast form. Many of the oldest of the werefolk lose the ability to change back from their beast form as well, eventually becoming fully animal and joining those in the wild.
Vampires - The first vampire was created in a cruel twist of fate when a mortal made a pact with one of the Dark Gods. The vampires created then went on to begin a dark war, fueled by a hunger for the blood of the living, this war saw the death of many thousands of the races. Vampires are noted for their pale complexion and their sharp canine teeth which they use to pierce the skin of their victims and drink their blood. Older more powerful vampires also are noted for a crimson glow in their eyes.
Vampires cannot come into contact with the sun, it will reduce them to ash. Water burns like acid, and they are repelled by Holy symbols and magic. Those turned into a Vampire also lose the ability to call upon holy magic as well. Vampires are also weak against certain high pitched sounds, which can weaken them. Vampire Lords are able to withstand direct sunlight, though it weakens them, and they can resist the burning effects of water and the weakness of sound. Vampires in general are stronger than their living counter parts, and have more agility and stamina. Some vampires can learn to communication and command creatures of the night (bats, rats, wolves, etc)and shift into those forms as well, and some become more attuned to magic and are able to become powerful wizards. Only Vampire Lords are able to use both sets of abilities easily.
Vampires must be killed by piercing their heart and cutting off their heads. A stake in the heart will render them immobile and unable to defend themselves while the killing stroke is delivered. Another means to kill a Vampire is to burn their body to ash, by magic, sunlight, or a simple fire.

T 3:37am, July 20, 2009 [Edit] [Delete] | Fae - Also known as the Fairy Folk, Fair folk, and the People of Fate. Many groups of people are Fae. They range widely diverse and are tied greatly to magic. Some believe their very blood is magic. In reality the Far come from a time when a great Dragon attempted to create a people similar to the Elementals, but the magic worked in ways the Dragon did not expect. Dryads, Sylphs, and Fairies were created from the magic, among other types. While different from the races that were created from the war between the Gods and Dragons, the Fae were tied more directly to their surroundings, and their magic greatly stemmed from the environments in which they inhabited.
Elementals - Elementals are beings born of nature itself. Created as a by product of the war between the Gods and Dragons, the Elementals rose up from the very powers of nature and given life. The Elementals are creatures of magic, more directly tied to the element of their birth than even the Fae. Thus an Elemental of Fire can only use Fire magic and a Water Elemental can only use water magic.
Giants - Originally created to be soldiers in battle during the War of Magic, the Giants are great beings of power and strength. While their magical talent is very low, their strength makes up for this. After the War of Magic, the Giants scattered across the world. The most notable types of Giants are those who live in the hills around the world and the Frost Giants who live on the Island of Ice to the far north. |
