What you need to think about –

The characters of Miskatonic University make up the ebb and flow of the storied school’s life. Some are professors and teachers, some might be grounds keepers or locals who know of the school and the majority are actually students of the school. Obviously regardless of what you are doing at the school your character will be centered there.

That is not to say your character does not explore the country side, have an interest in the local area or have investments in the community. Maybe your concept is a local business owner who takes business courses at the school to help improve their skills. Maybe you’re a student from abroad who has come to Miskatonic because it is known for its “unusual” curriculum which is not often offered at other locations.

As a learning environment there is little tolerance for violence and illegal activity though obviously there is a degree leeway given. Drinking, smoking and mild recreational drug use does occur on campus, in fact for some professors it is seen as an important cultural study. Naturally this is not broadcast to the students and the Board of Directors for the school do not condone such studies, this kept quiet and hidden from most of the student body.

Character Creation –

It is important to remember that we are all here to have fun. Characters with flaws and real emotions are important to having a good time for everyone. Mary and Marty Sues are not likely to get passed here. John Harrison, an ex-military commander with a considerable understanding of the local area who is presently going to school to hone his skills in medical research is not going to be approved.

First think of your concept. A student, professor or faculty member, local resident or new arrival to the area are perfectly acceptable. Positions of power in the school and in the local community will be decided upon by the Admin staff on a character by character basis. Not every concept you submit will be approved and the Admin Staff cannot guarantee rapid response time on every application.

The application beyond that is pretty easy. This is a personal horror game in many aspects so try to imagine your character’s insecurities, convictions and mental states as a sources of inspiration.

Thank you for your consideration!

New Character Factions:

The Association: Perceived locally as a kind of Masonic brotherhood the Association is a collection of individuals from the local community who meet and discuss various issues within the communities they live in and offer support to each other be it in the form of advice or resources. A mix of old money blue bloods and established day labor families, the Association is viewed skeptically as a mysterious conspiracy working against their enemies in the shadows. In truth the Association has existed in Lovecraft County since the late 19th century when strange occurrences in the local area stumped local authorities and forced civilians to look into matters on their own. Based at Miskatonic University, the Association quietly keeps taps on the whole of Lovecraft County carefully on watch for any disruptions in their communities that the police are unable to solve.

Requirements –

The character must be a 10 year resident of Lovecraft County or have graduated from Miskatonic University.

The character starts off as Ground Associate which is to say they have only been an Associate for 1-5 years thus far.

Rules of the Association:
1. Avoid Trouble; The Association does not advocate vigilantism, merely assistance for your fellow man. If there is trouble, call the police or another member of the Association. Never do anything that could threaten your life on your own.
2. Maintain Secrecy; The Association prefers the ability to act anonymously shrouding our activities in secrecy both for our benefit and for the safety of those around us. The fewer people who know about us the better.
3. Avoid Causing Harm; The Association’s duty is to protect our community not to kill or harm it. Protect yourself but never aggressively question or attack a suspect. Call a superior within the Association if you feel you must or contact the police.
4. Keep Your Community Clean; The Association’s greatest weapon is the ability to keep the community safe and healthy through volunteer work, donations and promoting culture. Whenever possible engage in all these to keep our base secure from outside threats.
5. Help Your Fellow Associates; We are more than a club, we are a family which includes not only ourselves but our immediate families even if they do not know of our existence. Never turn down a fellow associate in need and in turn you will never be refused assistance from the Association.

The Church of the Father and the Mother: A relatively new, spiritual movement in Lovecraft County, the Church of the Father and the Mother centers around the worship of sea and the healing power of water. Baptism and water rituals are common place and the movement has gained a particularly strong following in places such as Innsmouth and Arkham where opened minded and desperate people find solace and understanding within the Idolizers of the Father and the Mother. Believing that all life came from the Ocean and that all life will end there, followers of the Father and the Mother are deeply pacifistic in most cases. However rumors of potential murders and sacrifices made in the name of the Father and the Mother, mysterious figures who are worshiped by the church as representatives of the Sea, linger though local authorities have made no arrests nor appear to have any active warrants on any church members.

Requirements:

The character must be older than 21 years of age.

The character must abstain from all physical possessions and live in the communal hostels belonging to the Church of the Mother and the Father. If they were wealthy they were forced to give all their wealth to the church upon becoming a full member.

The characters are not aware of the Cthonic nature of the cult as of yet. That is to say they have no knowledge of the terms Cthulhu, Deep One, Father Dagon or Mother Hydra. Instead they seem more like hard line Hari Krishna Worshippers.

Holy Tenants:
1. Eat Never The Meat Of The Land; Worshippers of the Father and the Mother are effectively low level vegetarians. As such they are only allowed to eat fish and bounty collected from the ocean as well as vegetables. Meat from land animals, processed food or unnatural foods are disallowed and eating them can result in expulsion from the order.
2. Love The Mother And The Father; Members of the Order are forced to leave their families in order to devoid themselves completely to the Order and the worship of the Father and the Mother. Even if a family joins they are often broken apart and never see each other again.
3. High Tide Worship; When the tide comes in there is what is known as High Tide Worship where in sacrifices are made to the water in the form of food, personal items or anything else of value. They are tossed into the rising tide or left for the tide to swallow. Usually new members are forced to give up all their worldly processions in their first High Tide Worship.
4. Low Tide Worship; When the tide leaves many times members of the Order will wander down to the water’s edge in hopes of finding a sign or hearing a voice which will guide their efforts on land. It is mandatory that Low Tide Worship is preformed at least once a week.
5. Obey The Father; Never disobey the orders of the sea or a higher ranking member of the Order.
6. Fear The Mother; Though this rarely is spoken of harsh punishments exist for members who do not follow the tenants above.

The OUTLOOK Project: There is a twelve foot concrete wall that surrounds an obscured facility some 25 miles north west of Arkham near the New Hampshire border. There is a single road leading there which is rarely traveled save for lonely military trucks that go back and forth between there and Arkham. The remote location used to be a Native American burial site which was converted into a Religious Commune known as Paradise Woods in the 1960ies before the government shut it down. Since then the land has been bought up by a private organization known as OUTLOOK claiming to be working on various pharmaceutical advancements though why you require concrete walls for such experimentation has not gone overlooked. Their location, so close to Miskatonic University, is not a coincidence as many grad students are quickly approached by the OUTLOOK Project, offered a great deal of money to work for them only to disappear for years at a time behind those imposing cement walls.

Requirements:

Characters must 25 years or older.

Characters must live on the OUTLOOK grounds.

Characters must be graduates of Miskatonic University or have a Doctorates Degree.

The OUTLOOK Project Policies:
1. M-12 Directors; Always obey the orders given to you by the M-12 Director’s office. Never question the orders, never ask who the M-12 Director’s are.
2. Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell; Never ask questions of your superiors, never speak to anyone about your activities in the OUTLOOK Project.
3. Do Not Speak To The Patients; There is no sympathy for patients. Do not speak to patients. They are not people anymore, do not treat them as one.
4. Eye On The Objective; You have a mission statement. Do not deviate from it, the M-12 Director’s have no tolerance for “creative interpretation” of your assignments.

The Karotechia: Not all of the world’s evils stem from some ancient and unknownable force. Some evil is created purely by the mad dreams of cruel men. In 1939, by order of Heinrich Himmler, the Karotechia was formed from the remnants of the Thule Society and other prominent occult researchers from across Europe whom the Nazi Party could seduce or force into service. Over the next five years the Karotechia represented the most dominate organized, global occult location and collection movement in the History of Europe. Unfortunately their greatest triumph, the creation of undead soldiers, mindless as they were, came too late in the War Effort. The Nazi Government fell and despite Hitler’s attempt to escape by faking his suicide he was eventually hunted down by allied forces and executed quietly. Of the original one hundred and sixty four agents working for the Karotechia only three have survived into the modern world. They continue the Nazi ideology of world Domination and prepare the world for the rebirth of Adolph Hitler and the creation of the Fourth Reich.

Requirements:

The character must be pure Caucasian, non-Jewish and must uphold the tenants of the Third Reich/Nazi Party.

The character must be older than 26 years of age.

The character is aware of some Occult oddities in the world given the nature of their organization.

The Orders of the Fourth Reich:
1. Obey your orders without question.
2. Represent the superiority of your race without drawing attention to your cause.
3. Do not associate with the lesser races unless you have no choice.
4. Report all unusual activities or events to your superiors or team.
5. We can show no mercy to the enemies of the Fuhrer.

Federal Bureau of Investigation, Special Agents: The FBI was formed in 1908 under its original name Bureau of Investigation before it was switched over the FBI in 1935. Designed as a federal investigation organization the FBI has sprawled out into a massive federal program that has over a three billion dollar budget and houses an office in every state in the United States. The Agency has, within itself, several different departments which investigate and wage war with all manner of different threats to public peace. In this case the Department of Special Interests has been drawn to Arkham, first with the apparent betrayal of Nathan LaBelle and the growing concern that something is foul in Lovecraft County. They have decided to set up an office in Arkham with five Agents to check into the growing trend of disturbing reports.
Requirements:
You may not have a character in OUTLOOK, the Karotechia and the Church of the Father and the Mother.
You must be at least 30 years old.
Your character must have no mental disorders.
Your character must have no personal relationships.

Rules:
1. Common sense stuff. You are an FBI Agent, if it is not legal or reasonable for your agent to enact something they will not. If you disobey the law or do something which is obviously illegal or can not be explained your character will be reassigned.
