It'd be almost impossible to list and explain in detail all of the cities, lands, regions, realms, buildings, and other locations in not just Middle-Earth but all of Tolkein's world. So we will try to keep it simple and hit only important spots.
Bree - Simple but ancient colony of Men and Hobbits alike, located outside of the Shire and the Old Forest.
Bucklebury - Main Hobbit village in Buckland.
Bywater - Hobbit village in the Shire, on the borders of the Westfarthing.
Gondor - The South Kingdom of the Dúnedain, descandants of the Numenoreans. A couple of main locations include Minas Tirith, Osgiliath, Minas Morgul.
Rohan - Land north of the White Mountains and land of the Rohirrim. Edoras is the main city in this region.
Erebor - The Lonely Mountain and Dwarf-Kingdom originally founded by Thrain I.
Grey Havens - Havens at the mouth of the gulf of Lhûn, the Elves use this passage to pass away into the West.
Hobbiton - The large town of Hobbits in the center of the Shire.
Khazad-dûm - The Mansions and Halls of Durin and his kin, located under the Misty Mountains. Also known as Moria.
Kingdom under the Mountain - Dwarf-kingdom of Erebor. See Erebor.
Lake-town - The town of Men along the Long Lake.
Minas Tirith - The citadel of the Kings of Gondor.
Osgiliath - Once the chief city of Gondor, it was overcome by plague and largely deserted, and then sacked during the War of the Ring when Gondor used it as its last defense against Sauron's forces.
Isengard - Once the stronghold of Saruman the White, it was laid to waste in the War of the Ring by the Ents, although the tower of Orthanc still remains standing.
Dunharrow - Rohirrim's refuge in the White Mountains.
Green Dragon - Famous inn in the Shire on Bywater Road.
Prancing Pony - The Inn of Bree.
Rivendell - Hidden valley refuge of Elrond.
Dale - Town of Men beside the Lonely Mountain.
Fangorn Forest - Last home of the Ents.
Old Forest - An ancient great forest from the Second Age, on the eastern borders of the Shire.
Mirkwood - Greatest of the forests in Middle-Earth, formally known as Greenwood the Great.
Lórien - Woodland kingdom of the Silvan elves on the western banks of the river Anduin.
Barrow-downs - Downs east of the Shire, haunted by evil spirits that served the Enemy.
Helm's Deep - Fortified refuge of the Rohirrim.
Valinor - Home of the Valar.
Arnor - Northern Kingdom of the Dunedain, now refounded and populated at the beginning of the Fourth Age.
Mordor - Once the Black Land of Sauron, now under the control of Gondor in the Fourth Age.
Anduin - The Great River that runs through Middle-Earth. |
