This info is from http://pjj.cc/hideaway/manual.php

General Commands
The letters/numbers infront of names are idents. They are generated from your IP. Used to make impersonation more difficult.

Use [x] where x is either of i-u-b-t for italic-underlined-bold-alternate text. End with [/x].
For example Word will output Word.
Alternately, /word/ will output word, word outputs word and -word- outputs word.

Links are created by writing any line with tp:// in it.
Example http://www.microsith.com/ would output link

The 4 boxes labeled B, I, U and T will make the entire line the style of the checked box. Can be combined with the [] styles for extra effect.
The last box, labeled IP, will make you show your entire IP and not the encrypted one. We do not encourage chatters to use this.

Use '/me text' to make an action.
Use '/nick newname' to change your name to newname.
Use '/link http://something/' to change your link.
Use '/image http://something/image.jpg' to change your image.
'/undo' will remove your last post from the log (will not affect the complete log). Cannot undo msgs or other commands.
'/whois username' will check when that user was last in the chat.

Use the 'Log out' button to exit, or the alternate /exit command.

Registered user commands
'/msg username message' will send a private message to username. If username is in multiple words, exchange spaces/whitespace with _.
Moderative commands
'/ban ident seconds' will ban everybody with the ident for the amount of seconds.
'/unban ident' will unban the chosen ident.
'/muban' will clear the ban list thus removing any bans.
'/gag ident seconds' will gag everybody with the ident for the amount of seconds.
'/ungag ident' will ungag the chosen ident.
'/mugag' will clear the gag list thus removing any gags.
'/rem text' will remove any line that contains 'text' from the log (will not affect the complete log).

Admin commands
'/clear' will clear the chat and userlist of text, forcing a clean log.
'/raw HTML line' will insert the HTML line into the chat log without changing it. Please make sure it is correct HTML and that it won't mess up the log.
Admins also have access to the Message of the Day. Go to the Members Area and select 'Edit MOTD' (only if you actually have a useful thing to say, of course).

BASIC ROLE PLAYING ETIQUETTE

Role-playing can be both fun and frustrating. These are some general guidelines that help cut down the frustration.

1: IC and OOC:

This really shouldn't need saying, but it seems like one of the more common problems...Try to stay In Character (IC) as much as possible try not to drop Out Of Character (OOC) to often, unless you are in a private conversation out of sight from others (an outside insetant messenger like AIM would be best, but if that isn't an option use the Chats MSG). If you absolutely must say something OOC in the presence of people who are IC, then enclose the OOC comment in parenthesis. ((Example)) this can often be personalised to each Rper and as you get the hang of things you get the idea of who does what to single OOCnes, which at times can be confusing for the Oldies in the chat.

2: Meta gaming:

Never use OOC information IC in any way. The best example I can give is...just because you can see someone's name (Handle) before their Text, your character wouldn't know that character's name unless someone had told you ICly. This also includes something you may have read in an RP interaction between two other RPers in a location out of ear shot or the other end of the world (where ever else) that's not where you are if your lurking or somewhere else in another RP. OR even character Profiles. This again is Rude and CAN be EXTREMELY disruptive.

3: Never assume someone will react in a certain way:
Do not assume someone will react in a certain way just because you think they should. Always give others the chance to react in their own way, and don't get upset if the reaction isn't what you expected. Any action you perform on someone else's character, no matter what the action might be, should be phrased as an attempt. By making an attempt instead of just doing it outright, you give the character's player the chance to consent to the action or avoid it if it's something they'd rather not have happen to their character.

4: Be considerate of the role-playing mood of others.

If you come into a situation where other characters are already engaged in some RP, don't just leap in with a radically different mood unless you get permission (Either IC or OOC, depending on the situation and whether you have any way to contact them OOC). As an example...say there is a couple sitting at a table discussing a recently deceased character and you jump in acting like a court jester and spill their drinks in their laps while telling bad jokes. You aren't going to make friends like this if your actions offend the players behind the characters.

5: Spotlighting:

Don't try to be the center of attention all the time. Be polite and share attention with other characters. You aren't the only one there to have fun, give everyone their turn in the spotlight.

6: Give others time to react to you.

One of the strangest things I've noticed in online RPG’s is impatience. People will walk up, say something, wait about 0.0000001 seconds and run off. The person they talked to would barely have had enough time to read what they said, let alone respond to it. This also happens in conversations. People will say something, wait a very short amount of time, then keep going as if they think the person they were talking to didn't hear them or isn't going to respond. In most cases, the other person was going to respond but simply wasn't as fast as expected, and loses the chance because the conversation has moved on without them. There's no need to hurry so much, just relax and enjoy the interaction. But Also do not take TOO long to react, it gets boring hanging around 30 mins for a post even more so if that post you have been waiting on is a very short one.

7: God moding and power gaming:

Try to avoid godlike abilities and invincible technology for your characters & Locations. Rping isn't about who can make up the best super powers for their characters, it's about the personalities of the characters. Any character that is ridiculously powerful or has a perfect personality is going to be fairly boring to RP with and will end up being mostly ignored by others. and you will get tagged as being a 'Noob' 'godmoder' and 'Powergamer' ( Yes Characters can Asened to god hood and the likes over time it happens to us ALL, At that this point it is best to semi-retire them to NPCdom or cameos, or give them a reboot.)

8: Random attacking of other RPers:
It is generally considered rude to just up and attack someone out of the blue. If you and your target are not part of some planned combat event, get OOC consent from the player before you attack their character (This can be done IC if you make your meaning clear enough and you can't contact the other players OOC). If there's no good way to get this permission, at least give them plenty of IC warning that you might attack, and if they seem to approve IC, then go ahead. If they don't seem willing to fight, or you can't tell one way or another, it would be best not to attack them to avoid OOC troubles.

9: Story telling and NPCing:

Never include someone else's character in a written story that didn't actually happen exactly as you wrote it without letting that character's player proffered and approve the story before you post it. This also includes using other peoples characters with out their consent. There are two ways outside of the written story this may happen. Examples:
1: lets say you do an RP with another RPer and talk about someones character but you also semi NPC them as well that is not even in chat as a fully active character or born yet (story and idea dependent) in a way that they themselves have not yet made public knowledge, You may be disrupting their story or portraying their Character in a way they do not want or like. So always make sure to ask first.
2: NPCing someone else's Character. NEVER EVER DO THIS, unless they ask you to or you have asked to do so and gained consent, again you must respect that it is someone else's character and may not act in a way or do things that you role play them as doing, Or again you may give out information the Character's owner dose not yet want out in the public.

10: RP Death and Fights:

invariably there will be RP fights and there will be a loser of a fight and a winner of a fight, there are some who will aim to kill others peoples characters, but you cannot kill a person's character without clearing it with them OOCly first. Since no one likes building characters over and over, there's always some way to get raised from the dead. Remember just because you killed someone's character and chopped up their body in the RP doesn't give you the right to complain if someone is returned from the dead. The reasons for this... It gets old and very annoying if people have had to waste their character development by killing off their character due solely because you want to be the winner.

10 a:

If the combat was a large battle, mention casualties but don't expect every Character to have names and if a player Character is involved do not assume they will stay dead, we all have ways and means of keeping our Characters alive. So just assume the two sides had several no-name extras along for the fight that can provide convenient dead bodies. Now If it was a duel, one on one or two on two then have it be to first blood or to loss of consciousness... unless of course a character's true death was agreed upon OOC ahead of time by the character's player, but these situations tend be very rare.

11: Disrupting RP.
There has been a long history of RP Disruption as long as there has been RP, This is one of the signal most annoying and frustrating things. This can happen in a few ways. so here' is a list to try and make this easy to digest.

1: Not reading a whole post correctly but scan reading. (Please sure to read a whole post and replay accordingly not just scan read and ignore half or more of an rp and then reply with a nonsensical reply. Example:
(RPer1) *She goes into the shop*
(RPer2) *Sees RPer1 walking the street and hugs her* ).

2: Ignoring someone else who is part of the RP. (Try to interact with everyone involved not just one person.)

3: Going out of your way to disrupt an RP with needless OOC, or silliness with pure aim to disrupt things. (for This please see rule 4 above)

4: Needlessly dragging out RPs by keeping people locked in locations for what should be a tiny RP. (this is most often down to RPers not watching time. Try to keep tabs on it and if you know you may have to leave soon, do not start anything and if you are in something try to round it up and tie it off so that all RPers are free.)

5: Knowing you are part of a bigger RP or a characters development of someone else's character but you don't like how its going, but to stop them from doing what you don't like you try to control how they will act with their character by trying to force them to RP how you want. (Just don't do it, its RUDE it's their Character they asked you to be involved in that story, let it play out and see where it goes, that's what makes RP interesting.)
5a: Not getting your way you start to refuse to log in as the character involved, pretend to be off line, or deliberately log off mid RP, anything to delay, avoid or just totally disrupt the RP to the point the other RPers quit the RP. (AGAIN its just RUDE to do this. Sure life happens no one can be on all the time, but try to be considerate to the other RPers its not ALL about you. {See rule 5:} )

6: Deliberate Meta-gaming, power gaming and god moding. (see rules 2 and 7)

7: Taking longer and longer to post and/or posing a nonsensical reply or 2 or 3 words. (see rule 6 and 9 and revisit 11.1)

12: Let people know you need to leave:

Be Right Back's (BRB), Got To Go's (GTG) and Be Back Later's (BBL) This one should really not have to be said, but some people seem to forget It is rude and inconsiderate to leave someone waiting for your posts for ages and they get left there being bored and fed up and not knowing why. … if you are going to leave which we all have to do at some point, it is considerate and polite to let the people you are RPing with know you have to go.… There is nothing more irritating then RPing with someone then they just go poof without saying anything and you sit there for ages left hanging and being very bored.… Disconnection happens and can not be helped but. … if you are leaving your comp it rally does not take long to type in 'BRB' 'BBL' and "GTG' and hit enter then do what ever it is you need to do. … it takes less then a second to type and hit enter on theses shorthand things. … so remember don't leave people there wondering if you've been disconnected or being slow to post. … let them know that you need to poof, Aslo if at all possible Try to give an Exit post, like for exsample you know you have to go to work as say 7:30pm.. and it's now 7pm try to wrap it up so it dosn't leave people's characters stuck mid RP and thus unplayable.
