It started with a man in Las Vegas, Nevada who developed telekinesis. The man’s name was Leland Marsh. He kept his ability a secret until one day he had enough of the crime that riddled the heart of Las Vegas. Using his gifts he became a vigilant bent on ridding Las Vegas of Crime. Leland Marsh would become the first documented vigilante hero.

Leland Marsh wasn’t the only person to develop powers during this time. Across the world people began developing extraordinary abilities. It was unknown what caused this at the time and many who developed abilities hid their powers, however there were few people who followed Leland’s path of vigilantism in their hometowns. Then there were those who sought to use their powers for evil. Which caused a wave of fear for these people who were now dubbed Disparate’s by the media at the time.

Disparate Panic was in full swing. Protests were underway from those feared people with powers. It should be noted that by this time the term Disparate was seen as a slur to those who had powers. Many took to calling themselves Aberrants where scientists had dubbed them Heteromorphics. During this time the CDC and the FDA had begun to research the cause of the Disparate’s powers. In this time violence erupted and would last several years, with Disperate’s being faced with discrimination and even violence.

The Heteromorphic Gene is unlocked. The government classed Heteromorphics as second class citizens by this point, they had to be registered, were unable to vote and often were overlooked for jobs. Many were still feared and discrimination was high. Studies continued on the gene.

By this time vigilantism was outlawed and displays of powers were made illegal. An Aberrant by the name of Clint Garrett became an outspoken Abarrant’s right’s activist. He lobbied with the supreme court to give Aberrant’s more rights and support and staged protests on DC. He found plenty of normal humans who supported his stand and grew a strong following of Aberrants and Normals.

Clint Garrett was murdered by a home grown human terrorist while meeting with President Clinton. He suffered a gunshot to the head and left behind his wife and two sons (both Aberrants). The shooter was 20-year-old Lloyd Nelson. Investigations were underway and it was shown there was a group of right wing militants who wanted to eradicate Aberrants who called themselves the First Sons.

Heteromorphic Rights Act is passed in the Supreme Court allowing Heteromorphics to vote, and made violence against them a hate crime. Their powers were still limited but they were no longer second-class citizens. Vigilantism was still illegal but it did not stop those who were brave enough to still keep the cities they lived in safe; some focusing on protecting Aberrant’s from the violence that still existed.

9/11 Attacks. Many Aberrant’s attempted to join the military but were barred. The government began looking at the prospects of allowing Aberrant’s into the military by exploiting their powers.

A small test unit was deployed by the army under the 72nd Infantry Brigade’s 1st Battalion. This unit was dubbed Dauntless and fought in the global war on Terror, proving that Aberrants could fight and provide support. Thus shedding a better light on Heteromorphics. Dauntless became the poster child for pushing better rights on the rest of the American Population (even if Heteromorphics were protected they still faced violence and discrimination.)

Better scientific research unveiled that Heteromorphics were a human evolutionary offshoot from our base DNA. Many claimed that they were the next step in the evolution of humankind. It was proven that genetics did not matter when it came to the Heteromorphic Gene, you were either born with it or you were not and it was the luck of the draw. Many began to fear that Humanity would die out in favor of the new evolution. Thus a religious fervor began.

Latent Gene Testing became standard. Parents could now see if their children had the gene, or even adults could get tested. Scientists found that stress often activated the gene, opening up the gateway to powers. Heteromorphics were seeing better treatment in the 20 years of discovery with small pockets of violence.

-Present: Vigilantism is still outlawed, but many police look the other way if Aberrants are going a good job at stopping Aberrant on Aberrant crime. There has been a surge in human on Aberrant crime with the new president. A few have taken up violence and lives of crime and have made it more obvious in their actions. Science has tried to recreate Aberrant activations in labs for both scientific research and for the government. They have made some headway with the first lab made Aberrant being created 6 months ago.
