Edzz 12:26am, October 27, 2003 [Edit] [Delete] Hi Everyone, We all have a lot of aggravation in our daily lives. Chatting should not be added aggravation. Chatting should be fun. Chatting should be an escape from the daily BS, a place where anyone can come, have fun and be themselves and be free of a select few instigators/troublemakers. Over the years, our group has endured a few individuals that for whatever the reason(s), felt it fun to irritate people, fight incessantly or found it necessary to try to destroy our many chat rooms through their childish and abusive behavior of other chatters. Every place we went, the few troublemakers followed and their actions turned many people (myself included) away from the site. Lorrie & I have worked too hard to see that happen once again. This site has the ability to remove problem people and offer us a sanctuary of sorts. And yes, we have banned a few people. Trust is something we all give away. Once trust is violated, it’s much harder to give it next time. And should it be violated repeatedly, the shallow broken promises of “one more try” or “I’ll behave” or “I won’t come back” or whatever become very tiresome. It becomes impossible to ever trust someone again when these people say one thing but their actions are off in the opposite direction... the next day, a week or month later. Lorrie & I have repeatedly tried keeping the room “open” for everyone to use without the need of joining as a Member. Guessing, I’d say it’s been opened up at least a half dozen times and then subsequently closed because the same old haunts return. She & I have tried, and in the process we've brought some aggravation upon ourselves for trying. Time & time again our trust has been violated only to be followed by more hollow promises and manipulative public pleas trying to make us look like the bad guys for protecting the room. The chat room is now closed to non-members. It will remain that way. Anyone can lurk, but only Members may enter and chat. In a perfect world where adults act like adults, where people can follow simple rules and everyone that makes promises keeps them, sites like ours would not need rules and Monitor(s) to oversee the operation. It would be nice if things were that way in life, but things aren’t. Closing the room simply means that anyone that wishes to participate here does so by joining the site as a Member. As a Member, the only thing required is to abide by our 4 simple rules. Those 4 rules are posted on this message board & can be summed-up in one word: Respect... respect for the other members that chat here, respect for yourself, and respect for the site. I don’t feel that it’s asking too much of anyone to join and abide by the rules; we have many folks that have done so already and they lived through it. :O) And a closed room nearly guarantees a place free of the people and/or problems that have plagued us for a long time. Everyone is welcome to join Crip Crypt. Everyone. The only people not allowed here are those that were granted Membership and then acted-up and had their Membership revoked. Some people have attempted to chastize Lorrie & I for this, but strangely those who's own actions forced us to act aren't held accountable for their actions. It's funny how that works, lol. The bottom line is this: This room has a lot of really great people and we have a lot of fun. Now that it's closed to members only, once you join and register, nobody can impersonate you. In fact, nobody can enter without joining first. This grants us the control we need to keep this chat problem-free.
