I remember that I was getting out of bed & turned the news on & saw that the first plane had hit the tower. I watched the second one hit live. I just couldn't believe it. Then came news about the Pentagon and finally Flight 93 in PA.

The chaos was unreal. What a nightmare it all was. TV was showing it (plane hitting the tower)over & over again. Then watching those towers come down just added even more to it all. 343 firefighters & 75 police killed. Early reports, thankfully, were inaccurate when estimates of those killed in the collasped buildings were discussed.

Then watching those people dancing for joy in the streets of Lebanon just set me off. I remember telling my morning aide "It's a damn good thing I'm not the President. The whole Middle East would be glowing red and the sand there would be melted into glass right now." I was beyond angry & wanted someone to pay.

5 years later, I don't think we're any safer today. The world is full of people that hate us & wish us dead; people more than willing to kill themselves in order to kill some of us. Probably more now than there was in 2001. Security's tighter but it's far from ironclad safe. So no, Gary, I do not feel any safer. Do you?

They'll be back. They'll hit us again someday. Our politicians will once again wave the US flags, look deep into the camera and make John Wayne speeches, and they'll play patriotism head games with anyone that dares question that inaction on their part. And we'll probably lose more of our freedoms. The hype will end there as nobody in public office will have the guts to address WHY someone would be dancing in a street after learning that nearly 3,000 innocent people were murdered, most literally ground into bits from the kinetic energy of two 500 million ton steel & concrete skyscrapers crushing down on them. Nobody in power will have the guts, brains, wherewithall, whatever to want to maybe address WHY anyone would gladly kill themselves in the hope of killing some of us. And maybe fix that why?

No, I don't feel any safer.

No Ed, I feel no more safe living in this country than I did on 9/11/2001. Personally, much like you, I live very close to a nuclear power plant and we know where they are on terrorist's "hit lists". And we know that next to nothing has been done since 9/11/2001 towards protecting nuclear power plants from attacks from terrorists.

On a less personal perspective, any terrorist attack, anywhere in this country or world, no matter what size of terrorist attack, knocks the crap out of the world economy. Especially when we have leaders go to small middle east countries to retaliate?

Then we have sooo many homegrown terrorist cells who are out to get this country...anarchists...who just hate to see any form of society work and thrive. Of course, all terrorists are anarchists.

The terrorists have already planted their seed on 9/11/2001 and we'll always be looking for anything suspicious.

So much more can be added to this thread, if any of members of Crip Crypt feel the need to do so.

Did any of what I just wrote make any sense? :-)
