Active Kingdom Leaders, if you have a drawing program of some kind and would like to play and make a more detailed layout of where your cities and places of note are, I can make a blown up version of your country for you to doodle on. It's in the rules that you do not need our permission to make story moves that are w/in your characters' abilities. (Just be sure, if you're attacking someone's place, the leader of that place is present to represent.) It will not mess us up. We'll happily, very happily adapt.  General "NO" to Time Travel & Our Reasoning Mab 1:37am, January 13, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] Okay, this is a public service announcement. Time travel is something we're steering away from in Bettenchi, simply because in an online chat type RP, if one person decides to go back in time and change history, it's not fair to expect all other possibly effected players to have to be mindful of that and change their histories accordingly. Time paradoxes that supposedly don't effect any other characters will also not be accepted because it's very unrealistic (beyond the bounds of fantasy realistic) to think a change in the time line would only effect one character or two. So, a general NO to anything proposed like that.  Level 3 is a big deal Mab 3:37am, February 14, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] Before, with Bettenchi, we were all a little laxed with awarding higher magic levels that weren't always earned the way they should have been. We're not going to be doing that this go round. It's gotta be legitimately earned through RP. If you're not RPing, you're not advancing in the levels. If you don't document in your character profile, it never happened. Your characters' magic mastery progress should be documented in your characters' profiles (even if that's all your character profiles contain. Up to you what else you wanna put in the profiles), when you start learning a new spell, times you've practiced it during the allotted learning time, and when you finally master it. Otherwise, it doesn't count. That you've practiced or studied it should be supported in the logs. Just notate in your character's profile when practice/study/tutoring occured in the logs. It's not that hard and saves a lot of grief and hunting later. It should have what dates specifically you practiced or studied it so you don't have a time hunting it down, if you need to document it. We admins and mods are not going to hunt it down for you. So, if you can't provide proof yourself, it didn't happen. Please, keep that in mind. Level 3 is supposed to be a big deal on Bettenchi. It's a very accomplished wizard that is a level 3. We have fewer levels than DnD and simpler ones because this isn't a group of people with handy stat sheets sitting around a table. We've got people coming and going at all times of the day, etc. It's a lot harder to keep track of, so we simplified things to something that works better for an online chat based RP. We also don't use dice (except on very rare occasions dealing with portals and other rare cases). Another reason for the simplicity. It being so simple is a direct result of these RP conditions. So, level 3 is far more advanced than it would be in a DnD type game. Please keep that in mind as you progress and don't feel like you can achieve level 3 or higher as easily as in other games. (Kingdom leaders, of magic based kindoms only, can start at level 2 with enough spells to put them there already under their belts. There are other special conditions to this. See "Kingdom Leaders" thread on the board for more details)  Unregistered Chars Xyva 3:17pm, June 16, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] This announcement is about all unregistered characters. All unregisterd caracters must fit into the prefabricated guidelines of the chat in both species and abilities in order to be rped before they are registered. Any characters not complying to these guidelines should wait for approval by an admin. The best way to do that is by submitting an aplication and/or contacting an admin. If the character isnt an existing species of bettenchi it may take some time for the characters approval. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have fun rping.  Taking Religious Names in Vain Mab 5:46am, June 28, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] You know, I put a lot of effort and time into this chat, keeping it as fair as I can to players, making sure stuff runs well, just a lot and lot and lot of work that has nothing to do with any RPing that I do. I have certain personal convictions and I don't think it's too much to ask in my own chat that I've worked so very hard on that those personal convictions be respected. It's not a violation of other people's beliefs or rights or right to express themselves that I ask that they respect my convictions in a chat I took the time to provide for people. All I ask is that the name of the God I have faith in be not taken in vain. I don't ask that you believe as I do or agree with me, just respect me on this. I would further say that no religion should be discussed or mocked or their deities's names taken in vain on this chat either. Let's respect each other in this regard.  Profiles and Spells Kali 7:37pm, July 09, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] There are going to be some changes to the spell lists. I need EVERY member to get their profiles up to date with the spells they know as I am going to go thru them and mark the spells that everyone knows so we do not get rid of them. Today id July 9th. I will start working on the spell lists in 10 days. If you do not have a profile up by then, you cant say you werent warned.
