There are 5 stones, as described in the opening story and one heart stone that ties them all together. This thread is to describe the properties of each stone and explain how they work together, what makes them a must have, etc.

You may post questions to this thread regarding the stones AFTER all 5 stones and the heart stone have at least got their posting spots saved. This thread is for explaining the stones.

 FIRE STONE
Mab

The stone's main purpose is to keep the element of fire over all of Bettenchi obeying the natural order of things. The stone cannot be destroyed, but can have its powers to do it's job put in check if encased in ice, although it takes a while for things over Bettenchi to start feeling the effect of the stone's lack of protection, should this occur. It doesn't happen all at once. Effects of prolonged ice encasing can result in parts of the world experiencing an ice age, other parts having fire get out of control, unharnessed.

Special Powers This Stone Gives To Its Holder:

A. Gives holder ability to turn a pond sized body of water into liquid magma.

Range of Effect:
Pond sized body of water. If in an enclosed pond, the effects will last for 2 days. If in an open or moving body of water, the effects will last for 10 posts and only for the pond sized section of the water the magic was directed at. If it is in a section of river, the effected area will move with the river until it's time for existence has elapsed and it dissipates. When the magma dissipates, so does the water that it used to be. In larger bodies of water it'll just get filled in with the surrounding waters, but in an enclosed pond, the pond will be left dried up.

How often it can Be Done:
Once a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 3 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 3rd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course).

1st Post-- stone held toward the water and the thought of what the holder and invoker of the stone wants to have happen thought of definitively. Sparks will start shooting out of the stone in the direction of the water to be effected and land in the water, but strangley don't get doused.

2nd Post-- the sparks that hit the water start to sink and also expand, making the water around them boil and soon become bubbling fountains of lava in the water.

3rd Post-- By this post, the pond sized area of water is a pool of hot magma.

B. Gives the holder the ability to shoot forth great balls of fire. *snicker*

Range of Effect:
Able to produce streams of magma each one up to the amount of 12 gallons. This molten rock often acts as melted plastic, that is splashing, sticking and burning. It can cuase very flammable objects, such as light clothing, tinder, dry leaves ect, to catch fire 5-10 feet away. The fumes given off by the molten rock is slightly noxious and can make a person dizzy and lightheaded. Can produce 4 of any of these streams at a time and shoot them in a 20 foot radius spread or focused on a single point.

How often it can Be Done:
3 times a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 2 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 2nd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course).

1st Post-- stone held toward the target and the thought of what the holder and invoker of the stone wants to have happen thought of definitively.

2nd Post-- The magma streams of one or four of whatever size desired shoot out from the stone toward the intended target(s). (size and number within the limits of the stone's ability to be decided and posted by invoker on the second post. Gives an element of surprise. Responses and protections against this attack need to be put in play BEFORE this second post. Normally you get another chance to respond after the post, but in this case you need to think ahead and have your guard up.)

More cool fire stone features to follow, but this will work for now to indicate why this stone is a cool one to have.

 WATER & ICE STONE
Mab
3:56am, February 14, 2005
[Edit]

The stone's main purpose is to keep the element of water & ice over all of Bettenchi obeying the natural order of things. The stone cannot be destroyed, but can have its powers to do its job put in check, if baked over hot coals or thrown into a pool of lava (put in any situation that consists of being cooked with fire, basically), although it takes a while for things over Bettenchi to start feeling the effect of the stone's lack of protection, should this occur. It doesn't happen all at once. Effects of prolonged fire cooking can result in parts of the world experiencing heat waves and/or floods from polar ice caps melting, and other such water-elements-being-out-of-control catastrophies.

Special Powers This Stone Gives To Its Holder:

A. Gives holder ability to conjure water from no where, up to a pond sized pool's volume of water.

Range of Effect:
Up to a pond sized body of water or any amount inbetween will appear wherever it is directed to. Whatever the amount, if you want it to stick around and not run off the way water will, it's best to have some place to contain the water, whatever the amount. Then, it will remain as any regular water would within the given climate conditions and man-made containment arrangements.

How often it can Be Done:
Once a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 2 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 2ndd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course, one chance each).

1st Post-- stone held pointing at the spot the invoker wants the water to appear.

2nd Post-- Simple, the water appears out of thin air in the area indicated. (Like with many of the stones' abilities, no prior warning need be indicated as to the amount of water until this second post in which it appears and those affected by the appearing water must post any counters and protections from it prior to this second post. Basically, you have to guess as to the invoker's intent and be on your guard for the worst, if this invocation is suspected to be a form of attack. Ideally, that is how most spells should work, with invoking in one post and results in the second and any counters by any targets invoked during their turn inbetween the first and second post of the invocation. There are only a few instantaneous, same-post spells on the boards and only those should really be responded to with defenses after it's already been cast. In most cases, it should be invoked in one post, cast in the second, with time for all other parties to get their one post in to brace themselves or defend themselves, if they can, inbetween.)

B. Gives the holder the ability to shoot forth great streams of ice that can encase the target. Those encased do not die, but are frozen suspended until the ice is thawed somehow.

Range of Effect:
Able to produce streams of ice that can reach a target a quarter of a mile away or any distance closer and encase it/him/her/them. It can encase up to a small outpost fort size of an area and any inhabitants therein or can encase something as small as a tiny insect only. (If the holder of the stone hopes to hit a target he/she cannot see from far away, they better know exactly where their target is) Living things encased as a result of this do not die, but are suspended in ice and time until thawed. Thawing occurs by any conventional means to thaw ice in a given climate. If it's a snowy icy climate already, this can be more difficult to achieve. It takes a thawing spell of level 3 or higher to thaw by magic. So, if you're not level 3 with a spell that is useful mastered and you need to rescue someone frozen by the Water & Ice Stone, then best to use conventional means like fire torches, etc. (Blasting the ice, if one has magic level 3 or higher WILL NOT shatter that which is contained within. Sorry, if you were hoping to do the "Demolition Man" effect. Doesn't work in this case.)

How often it can Be Done:
2 times a day.

2nd Post-- The ice shoots forth at lightning speed, quickly encasing whatever the target is in a matter of seconds and in that same post. (Like with other stone abilities and is the norm for the stones, no warning about how much is to be encased need be given until this very post where it happens. The direction it's pointed is, of course, specified in the first post, but how much is to be frozen, whether one person or a small fort sized portion of area is a surprise revealed in this post and can only be guarded against prior to this post. After this post people are just left with dealing with the consequences, not preventing it.)

More cool Water & Ice stone features to follow, but this will work for now to indicate why this stone is a cool one to have.

 WIND & SKY STONE
Mab
6:35am, February 15, 2005
[Edit]
[Delete]
The stone's main purpose is to keep the element of wind, atmosphere, and sky over all of Bettenchi obeying the natural order of things. The stone cannot be destroyed, but can have its powers to do its job put in check, if encased in cool, solid lead and stored below ocean sea level, although it takes a while for things over Bettenchi to start feeling the effect of the stone's lack of protection, should this occur. It doesn't happen all at once. Effects of prolonged lead encasing can result in parts of the world experiencing tornados and/or no wind at all so that winged creatures can get no lift, and other such wind and air type catastrophies.

Special Powers This Stone Gives To Its Holder:

A. Gives holder ability to conjure whirlwinds & tornados from no where.

Range of Effect:
A tornado or whirlwind big enough to throw up to 20 people around (although won't rend them in pieces) or any size whirlwind or tornado inbetween will appear wherever it is directed to within the stone holder's range of sight. It's effects can last for up to 3 of the stone holder's posts AFTER the 2nd post of the invoking posts.

How often it can Be Done:
Three times a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 2 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 2nd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course, one chance each).

1st Post-- stone held pointing at the spot the invoker wants the tornado or whirlwind to appear.

2nd Post-- Simple, the tornado or whirlwind appears out of thin air in the area indicated. (Like with many of the stones' abilities, no prior warning need be indicated as to the size of the whirlwind or tornado until this second post in which it appears and those affected by the appearing cyclone must post any counters and protections from it prior to this second post.

B. Gives holder ability to make things fly up to a the size of a small army or a large ship.

Range of Effect:
Creates a levitating field strong enough to safely lift and move through the air anything up to the size of a small army or a large ship, medium sized house (keeping in mind they have dense stones in their makeup quite often and such), etc. Once airborn, it's up to the holder of the stone when the object(s) or person(s) are set down. The holder of the stone can point it at him/herself.

How often it can Be Done:
Three times a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 2 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 2nd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course, one chance each). The holder of the stone needs to remain concentrating on the flying things or persons while it is flying, but can dodge things thrown at him/her, etc. Just can't say, read a book or something and needs to keep his/her mind on the things that are flying and be able to SEE them.

1st Post-- stone held pointing at the object(s) the invoker wants to levitate. If more than one person/object, they have to be relatively close to one another, no more than two feet between them.

2nd Post-- Simple, the persons or objects start to fly through the air. They can't leave the atmosphere with this magic though, so let's not get silly. (Like with many of the stones' abilities, no prior warning need be indicated as to exactly how much of whatever is being levitated, only the direction the stone is pointing at indicated. It could be pointing at an army and only one person end up flying, for example. This is left up to the holder of the stone and doesn't have to be specified until the second post, the post in which it actually happens.

 EARTH STONE
Mab

The stone's main purpose is to keep the element of earth over all of Bettenchi obeying the natural order of things. The stone cannot be destroyed, but can have its powers to do it's job put in check if encased in a vaccumn, although it takes a while for things over Bettenchi to start feeling the effect of the stone's lack of protection, should this occur. It doesn't happen all at once. Effects of prolonged vaccuum encasing can result in parts of the world experiencing earthquakes, fissures or sink holes occurring unrestrained.

Special Powers This Stone Gives To Its Holder:

A. Gives the holder ability to cause minor earthquakes.

Range of effect:
within a 3 mile radius, capable of knocking down small buildings or weak structures..eg: shacks, daub and wattle houses, occupied outhouses, rock formations, towering stacks of books (wizards beware)

How often it can be done:
2 times a day

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 4 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 3rd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course).

1st Post--stone held pointing at the spot the invoker wants the earthquake or fissure to appear.

2nd post--The ground would start to tremble for the earthquake, the crack would appear for the fissure.

3rd post--The earthquake would become stronger, buildings would beging falling over. Fissure: The crack would widen considerably, allowing the surrounding surface of 20ft to fall into it.

4th post--The earthquake would settle down. The fissure would reclose.

B: The ability to petrify inanimate objects.this is a great defensive spell

Range of effect
each casting would affect aproximately 20 square feet, one complete tree or anything smaller

How often it can Be Done:
2 times a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 3 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 3rd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course).

1st post--stone held pointing at the spot the invoker wants to petrify.

2nd post-- the object begins to turn to stone, moving from the center of the area outward.

3rd post--The object or area is completely turned to stone.

 CREATURE STONE
Mab
5:05pm, March 16, 2005
[Edit]
[Delete]
The stone's main purpose is to keep the element of living creatures all of Bettenchi obeying the natural order of things. The stone cannot be destroyed, but can have its powers to do its job put in check, if encased in air tight stone casing with nothing but leather for a sealing stopper and stored in a room devoid of life (short visits of life to the room won't effect its imprisonment though), although it takes a while for things over Bettenchi to start feeling the effect of the stone's lack of protection, should this occur. It doesn't happen all at once. Effects of prolonged encasing can result in parts of the world experiencing odd desease like symptons such as lethargy, fever, upset stomach, etc., and natural healing starts to take longer and then stops altogether. Also healing spells cease to work after a while, becoming less effective before ceasing to work entirely.

Special Powers This Stone Gives To Its Holder:

A. Power to heal, of course.

Range of Effect:
Can heal much like a unicorn horn and, even like a unicorn horn, bring people back from the dead, but, unlike a unicorn, the person can have been dead a longer time. As long as their vital pieces are still there, the stone can restore them up to 3 days after they've died.

How often it can Be Done:
3 times a day, although back from the dead can only be done once a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3 (yes, I know back from the dead is a level 5 spell, but this is a special case. A level 4 or higher wizard can halt this stone's effects in this regard.)

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 3 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 2nd and 3rd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course, one chance each).

1st Post-- stone held pressed to the individual being healed or restored.

2nd Post-- Simple, the person begins to heal or come back to life.

3rd Post-- the person or creature is healed upon and during the third post, but not completely until the 3rd post of the invoker.

B. Power to Reshape Flesh.

Range of Effect:
Can work on up to 10 people at one time who are within 20 feet of the holder of the stone. It can do any kind of reshaping that does not kill the victim or recipient (depending on if they're willing or not determines if they're a victim or a recipient). It can do things like give the target hooved feet and goat type legs, or turn their arms to wings, etc. It cannot change the mass of the target, so any reshaping must be of the same mass. That's why it's not likely more limbs could be added like a pair of wings on the back or turning them into a centaur, etc. Target must remain the same mass.

How often it can Be Done:
2 times a day.

Magic Level strength of Effect:
Level 3

To Invoke Effect:
Takes 3 posts of the invoker, going into effect on the 3rd post (with other RPers having their chances to post inbetween, of course, one chance each).

1st Post-- stone held pointing toward the individual(s) being reshaped.

2nd Post-- Simple, the holder of the stone describes what should be happening to the target(s) and the person(s) begins to reshape unless they have a way to defend, which they will have a chance to do during their response to this post.

3rd Post-- The person(s) will be reshaped into whatever state the stone holder specified in their previous post, unless the target(s) had a way to prevent it happening.

(more on this stone to come)

It can do anything that any of the 5 stones can do with exactly the same specifications. The only catch is, the person holding the heart stone needs to have at least touched all of the other 5 stones at one time or another. Don't try to be cute and say your character is ancient and at one time touched each stone or touched any of the stones. That's not going to fly. It has to be done via RP.

 Location of the Stones

I guess it would be nice if people knew where the stones were, at least OOCly. None of this information is known IC except by those specified.

Fire Stone:
Is guarded by Drako near the lands of the giants. There may be legends about this. So, it's okay if your character knows about it, but it should be treated as legend, not fact. Your character would be taking a chance that it's true if he/she seeks this stone. Drako must be IC to try for this stone.

Water & Ice Stone:
It is a lost stone. There are only clues as to it's location. Ask Mab for what those clues might be and where they might be. It's location is under Ruapenchi city in the depths of water down there, in a cave that is magically sealed. Don't try to say your character knows where it is unless you've spoken with Mab and your character has sought out the clues.

Wind & Sky Stone:
It is guarded by the people of Quman. You'll have to ask Bartuc if they've kept it secret that they even have it or not.

Earth Stone:
It is lost and forgotten in the Mithrenburg mines. The dwarves don't currently know it is there, but may have beginning clues of its location that they don't know pertain to the stone.

Creature Stone:
It is lost in an ancient castle that looks as new as the day it was finished. The magic of the castle wards against its destruction. The stone inside is guarded by the magics of the castle and that the stone is there is long forgotten by all beings.Indeed, the castle itself has been long forgotten by all beings. The fae might have clues that it is there in ancient manuscripts that they never read, though.

Heart Stone:
In the care of the people of the Fae. It is not common knowledge that they have it, but ancient legends may have leaked out that they have something really cool, but not what it is. Evidence that they have it might be in ancient manuscripts in the Stardock academy vault.
