When vampires were set loose onto the world, everything was thrown out of balance. Mortals were being slaughtered in bloodlust and rage. For too long they went unchecked.

Hunters began appearing, learning quickly how to fight and defend against these dark creatures. These hunters are who became the first Werewolves. The Magicians responsible for the vampires were sought out. To put an end to the death they started the Magicians gave what they saw as a blessing to these Werewolves. They imbued them with as much magic as their bodies could hold. Gifting them with even greater strength, sharp teeth and claws, a thick hide, sharpened senses, and a bite venomous to the vampires.

The downside to the gift was a weakness to silver and the turn. At first it was uncontrollable and came with all the rage they felt for the creation of the demons that killed their people. They began locking themselves up when the moon would rise. Slowly gaining control of themselves in their fully shifted form.

Generations continued with the Werewolf curse, more power and control gained over the lifetimes. Eventually the moon was an ally, they were stronger as it was more full, though control still had to be learned. Many even gained the ability to walk about with wolves themselves instead of in the hybrid form they were originally gifted with. Rarer still were those that communicate with wolves and even more beasts, able to call on them for aid should they show themselves worthy.

In modern times werewolves still hunt the vampires, keeping their population in check, but also some packs see themselves as responsible for policing the Magicians as well, especially the more the communities grow. None wishing to see their magic grow strong enough to alter beings into another life entirely.

While they do try to keep the growing supernatural communities in check, they no longer are counted among the hunters, not most anyways. Now they too are hunted for the bodies they leave as well. Not to mention they are tracked in a similar manner as the Magicians. The Weave lives in them as it would a Magician, though instead of flowing through a Magician they carry a piece of the Weave itself inside them. This is what powers their curse, but it also makes them a target for anyone seeking magic.

The current packs are varied in their history, some are family only, natural born Werewolves and occasionally their partners. Some are a mix of natural born and those that share their blood through turning, these usually are the packs that seek to gain larger numbers for either their protection or to aid in their agendas. Most are those that are lost and found, sharing little blood or history. These are the ones that didn't fall in line, that didn't agree with the mandates and goals of the pack. Some of these werewolves are those that were turned and abandoned.

Turning a werewolf is rather simple, the same bite that is venomous to a vampire will pass the curse on to a mortal. Of course the curse not coming to completion until the rise of their first full moon, this one of course being the most dangerous for a newly turned wolf. Magicians are also able to be turned, though some are naturally resistant to it and others may be able to access magic to expel the curse from them.

This is not a list of all the packs that walk the realms, just those that are relevant to our setting.

The pack views and ideologies listed below are the overall outlook for each group, the members within may share the views to varying degrees or not at all.

If you would like to play an Alpha in one of the current packs please speak with an admin for details prior to submitting.

1. The Eriksen Pack
Secrets and heritage are what surrounds this family. The blood of one of the first turned Werewolves runs through the veins of this pack. As this is a family line, most are natural born instead of turned later in life. Because of their strong lineage they are capable of greater feats of power than some of the others. Better control over when and how they change form even able to communicate and command other natural canines. Historically, a few of this pack have even turned to a full wolf form and choose to stay that way, at least for the majority of the time. Slowly becoming more feral as they forget their upright ways.

Controlling the turn is the first thing they teach their children, able to save most of them from experiencing the worst they are capable of. The learn to calm the rage and hunger that builds in them, to treat their wolf like an ally instead of something to fight against.

While they have some branches in other regions, this is where they call home. Just outside of the city on a large plot of land you can find their property. Houses spread out within the trees with plenty of space to run and high fences to keep things out and others in. The main house is where the Alpha lives with their family, along with any newly turned who need a closer eye.

They do not seek out fights, but they will protect their territory. Unlike other wolves they do see their werewolf state as a gift, not a curse. One to be cherished. This point of view helps them maintain a better relationship with Magicians than other packs or solo Werewolves might experience, harboring resentment for actions taken long before any of their time. For vampires they keep a watchful eye, as long as there are no mortal deaths there will be not hunting party. A willful turning is a bit of a gray area.

Hunters are their main enemy, especially those that see all supernatural creatures as a threat. Their views on the hunters are part out of pity, seeing these beings come after what was originally their own purpose, like an adolescent who believes they know more than their elders. The other part is they see them as an annoyance, constantly in the way or starting trouble when there is none. They will be the first to try and chase out more dangerous hunters and the last to form an alliance with even the most understanding of them.

While they are a pack of family, it is still possible for an outsider to join. Most commonly this is through marriage. A potential spouse is invited to have a different sort of wedding ceremony where they undergo the change, this strengthens the blood and increases the chances their children will be born as wolves. Those that choose not to are still welcome. They are not privy to all the secrets of the pack, but are still protected just as fiercely. With mixed parentage sometimes a child is born human, by adolescence this is corrected. Those children that don't want to be turned are shamed, but not turned away entirely.

Outside of partners and children a lone wolf may join their ranks, they are welcomed and care for, but they will never be allowed to lead and are still kept at a distance.

Some of course leave the pack, if done then their connection to the pack does not matter. They are completely shunned and are chased out of any territories the pack controls.

2. The Blackridge Pack
Older packs sometimes refer to them condescendingly as city dogs. They receive no love or care from others of their kind. Some see them as feral and wild, others as power hungry. They took up residence in the city, originally just a handful when they arrived, barely enough to be called a pack. As far as others know, this is the only branch. Quickly their numbers grew as they added willing mortals to their own population. Most stayed afterwards, fearing they wouldn't be welcome elsewhere and as young werewolves they couldn't fully control the beast inside of them.

Often found partying in their better moods, primarily at the local dive bar they managed to coerce a previous owner into selling. Their worse moods were far more dangerous for others around, that inner rage fighting for control too quickly. Their behavior is part of what has drawn hunters to the city more and more as of late.

They are not bad people really, most are just looking for freedom and lack self-control. They are incredibly loyal to each other, which with their numbers can be dangerous if another crosses them. They also tend to take in more solo wolves than most packs, so long as they won't bring down the mood.

Their relationship with other beings is rocky to say the least, most having a too high opinion of themselves and their abilities and a smart mouth seems standard among them. The only reason the Eriksen pack hasn't tried to chase them out or take them down is due to their own "lost pups" having joined and they manage to stay just inside the line of reasonable outbursts.
