Vampires in this world are as most.

They must drink blood for survival.
Magical weapons will damage them more than a normal one.
A stake to the heart or removing the head are the best ways to destroy one.
They have to be invited in to a residence.
They have special abilities of strength, speed, and senses. Even healing if they're well fed. One bloodline even gifts those with supernatural powers of mental manipulation.
Sunlight will quickly destroy most, though a single bloodline has been known to produce Daywalkers. Those not so lucky may try to trade with (or threaten) a Magician for a ring that allows them to freely move about in the daytime.
Werewolves are one of their greatest threats, their bites act like a venom. While not able to kill vampires on its own, it does greatly weaken them.

The origin of them is mostly passed in whispers and rumors. The stories state the four original vampire families were once Magicians themselves. Cast out for trying to raise dark beings with powerful magic in an attempt to gain control of the heart of the Weave itself.

When they were cast out from Aetheria a curse was placed on them that. They would be required to feed off the blood of living things to sustain themselves the way the Weave once did. All access to the Weave and its powers were lost to them, no matter how close to magic they were to come it simply moves through them the same it would a chair. Spells completely inaccessible no matter how hard they tried.

These are the stories that push so many vampires to chase down Magicians, many getting turned as they experiment on them, trying to coax the magic out. Some turned Magicians have even helped these vampires hoping for promises of more power.

To turn a vampire the person must be drained of blood and drink from the vampire in turn. This at first may turn them into a thrall, nearly completely under the command of the vampire whose blood they drank. The more of their blood the mortal consumes, the more control the vampire gains. Though the mortal also gains an increase in energy, strength, speed, and senses. Just more temporary. To complete the transition they must drink the blood or another living creature and sleep. If they do not, the blood eventually is out of their system and they are a normal mortal once more.

The four families were created at the same time, each outcast for attempting to bring about dark beings for their own goals. An act that if completed could have destroyed Aetheria itself and risked the Weave.

Most in the bloodline carry traits that reflect what magics they specialized in when they lived.

If you would like to play one of the original vampires from the four founding families please speak with an admin for details.

1. Santiais Family
Lucio: The Elder
Sabir & Ciscra: The daughters of Santiais

They were the protectors of the Weave, an advantageous position for someone wishing to control it. The family had a gift for shield magic which in their unlife gifted them with the ability to walk in the sun. The bright light could still be uncomfortable, but with practice they learned to manage. Not all that are turned by this blood share the gift of daywalking, but many do.

The original members of the Santiais Family that were sent to the Mortal Realm were Lucio and his two daughters, his wife having died trying to escape punishment.

Even in death Lucio saw himself as better than the others he conspired with, seeing himself and his daughters as pristine. Each mortal turned vampire by their blood was treated as family, carefully chosen before hand. Those that had the ability to walk in the sun were given higher praise than those who were forced to live only in the night. The latter, while not quite servants, definitely were of a lower prestige. They were not even allowed the right to progeny. If they wished to turn another they had to beg the aid of a daywalker in hopes the newly turned would also have the gift. Of course not all followed, or agreed with, these rules and would leave the family to find a new clan.

Lucio has not been heard from in decades, now his daughters head the family line in his stead, each from another end of the globe. After all, centuries of sibling rivalry will call for some space.

2. Eligioto Family
Capriana & Durante: The original leaders and masterminds. Deceased.
Isabella: Current head of the Eligioto family
Viola & Nero: Child vampires, locations unknown

The bookkeepers and sharp minds of the original families. The Eligioto family were the ones that put together the plans and spells that would open the barriers and call forth long banished creatures. They sought knowledge more than power, but had no interest in turning either down. The cast outs in the family consist of Capriana and her brother Durante along with his three children, Isabella, Viola, and Nero.

Their fate was highly contested among the council of Aetheria, mostly for the children. Isabella was just barely eighteen, Viola 14, and Nero was 10. The council believed it to harsh a fate to be delivered on children who couldn't possibly know better, just following their father and aunts orders. That is until the three were given a chance to say their peace. They were just as hungry for knowledge and power as their family, Isabella more so.

After they were turned the family was often looked over as quiet, as if they were not just as dangerous. Slowly they disappeared into the shadows, even the Werewolves didn't find them for years as they gained power. Then Durante and Capriana were found to be dead, Isabella taking over as head of the family. Their clan still small, but loyal to the oldest daughter.

The younger two showed little interest in controlling their bloodlust, their youthful appearance making mortals easy prey. They even were known to travel with the Karayan clan for a time instead of their own family, though rarely is one seen far from the other.

Now days very little is known about the bloodline, their numbers small. Many believe they're extinct or near enough to it that they don't matter.

3. Karayan Family
Aleksy: The solitary vampire of his bloodline, believed deceased.

Warriors, guards, the best fighters. They had learned how to use magic to enhance their physical forms for offense and defense. Captain of the guard, Aleksy Karayan, gave away the keys to the kingdom. He had access to all the secrets by way of protection. When caught all of Aleksy's family claimed innocence and ignorance of his plans. He was the first to return to his feet in unlife, ready for a new battle. Cast out alone with no one else he quickly began amassing his own army of underlings and loyal followers. His name was the most feared by the mortals and the newly turned Werewolves.

Despite his rapidly growing bloodline it is believed that Aleksy himself was killed by one of the original Werewolves in retaliation, leaving only his rabid children to continue their now unchecked spread.

4. Mezmaret
Kieron: The pied piper

This family was started by one lone man, Kieron Mezmaret. One who had the charm to gather numbers to his cause. In life he was always ready for a party. Surrounded himself with beautiful people and beautiful things. His unlife and his bloodline was much the same. When the other families needed someone to twist words and gather forces, they turned to Kieron. With ease he was able to call others to their cause, preparing to over though the powers that be once the rituals were complete.

While no other was cast out of his blood, all of those that followed him found themselves on the other side with no other family but him. A formidable clan already with their numbers, 16 total, the other newly formed clans steered clear. With lies, wit, charm, and good looks, they were able to make their way through the world. While others hunted for their meals, they simply asked politely.

Those in the family all had a gift for getting what they want, most through mundane means. Those that shared blood with Kieron found they had a stronger ability to bend the will of others. All it took was their gaze and sweet words, they could make a target do as they wished even if it caused harm to themselves, or make them forget completely. These tricks allowed them to move quietly and avoid most hunters.

It is unknown who all of the original 16 still lives and walks among the night outside of Kieron who still happily finds himself wherever the party seems most interesting.

This is not a list of all the clans that walk the realms, just those that are relevant to our setting.

The clan views and ideologies listed below are the overall outlook for each clan, the members within may share the views to varying degrees or not at all.

If you would like to play a leader in one of the current clans please speak with an admin for details prior to submitting.

1. The Santiais
Only those turned with blood from the Santiais family are allowed to call themselves part of this clan. This is the blood that creates daywalkers, as such they are very proud and hold themselves in high esteem. Only those that can walk in the day are allowed to create another Santiais vampire, for purity and power. Those that are turned and wish to leave the clan are usually allowed, the only exception are those that have the ability to daywalk. They protect this talent and will kill any that tries to leave with this power, though of course a few may manage to escape eventually.

They see themselves as above other clans and above the constant war between different races and factions. They are not known for being unnecessarily violent or messy, always cleaning up after their feeds. They even have infiltrated the mortal world's corporations, using different business connections to keep them in clean housing and with plenty of resources.

Clan Members
Lucio Santiais: Father of Santiais family. Location unknown. Unavailable.
Sabir Santiais: The older Santiais daughter. Last seen in New York. Available.
Ciscra Santiais: The younger Santiais daughter. Last seen in Sicily. Available.
Not Named: Local clan leader. Available.

2. The Vaengr
In the city and surrounding area if a vampire is responsible for violence and death, it's likely the Vaengr, or at the least they'd welcome the one that caused it. Believed to be what once was Aleksy Karayan's army of newly turned vampires, this clan is known to enjoy more than a little bloodshed. They feed with no regard of their preys life and will gladly kill anyone in the area as well. Often the other clans keep tabs on them in an attempt to keep their existence under the radar.

Their downfall tends to be their bloodlust. Hunters easily able to find them, though their numbers to well to help protect them. Even then they create new vampires almost as fast as they get themselves killed. Few of their number reaching past what would have been their natural year had they not been turned.

The leaders among the Vaengr hunger for an all out war, to finally sink their teeth into Werewolf and Magician alike so they can reign supreme.

They take anyone, bloodline doesn't matter. Skill doesn't matter. Betrayal however is punished in gruesome voyeuristic ways.

Clan Members
Viola Eligioto: Unconfirmed member. Child vampire (14). Original member of the Eligioto bloodline. Location unknown. Available.
Nero Eligioto: Unconfirmed member. Child vampire (10). Original member of the Eligioto bloodline. Location unknown. Available.
Not Named: Local clan leader. Available.

3. The Lilavati
A branch of the Mezmarat bloodline. All beautiful things are welcome in this clan, but only beautiful things. That beauty can come in numerous, useful, ways. In their leisure time they enjoy parties and the arts. With the funds amassed over lifetimes of manipulation and worse they are well known to be in the finest of clothing, the most elegant estates, and the fastest of cars. They buy art and whole museums, then sell it all away on a whim. Flighty, full of wit, and rarely completely open.

Though this clan isn't all fun and frivolity, rumors have began to spread that they are the ones behind missing children of Magicians, and even the occasionally newly turned werewolf. While not a member of their clan, they are believed to be one of the only branches that know where Isabella Eligioto is, having supposedly sought her out for knowledge of Aetheria, the Weave, and the vampiric curse that keeps them without magic.

Most of those that flock to The Lilavati do so as an escape, to be among the beautiful things. Those that become trusted by leadership learn their true mission is to regain the ability to use magic and return to what they see as their true home, Aetheria.

Clan Members
Not Named: Local clan leader. Available.
Ayla Harlow: No ranking. Played by Tora.
