Alex Summers 3:14am, May 28, 2010 [Edit] [Delete] |
Word was passed through the school a couple months before the semester ended that this year there would be no summer classes. Instead, this year, something drastically different would be taking place at the Xavier Institute. There was a schedule of classes for this new event, but what they were exactly was a mystery. with the release of this vague information, it was told to the students and faculty that after yearly graduation for the senior class a school wide assembly of faculty, staff, students, and graduates, past and present would be held in the Danger Room.
The day having finally come, the students would have been informed that they were to meet out in the school grounds in the front of the building, and once all were present and accounted for they would be lead via faculty and/or staff member down to the Danger in small groups. Upon entering the DR, they would see before them a vast auditorium set up much like a theater with seats ascending upwards on one side, and opposite them a stage. In the front center of the stage was a large podium, and behind it rows of seats. Hovering above the podium in the air, spinning slowly on it's vertical center axis, was a silver circle with an X through it, the trademark symbol of the X-men and subsequent teams. Off to one side of the stage stood a silver statue of Charles Xavier, standing tall. Upon the stage, waiting for the students stood the Headmaster and Headmistress of the school, Sean Cassidy and Jean Grey-Summers, as well as Prof. Alex Summers and his now retired brother Scott. Once all the students were gathered and seated in the DR Auditorium, the faculty and staff would join the four already on the stage and would take their seats. It is then that Alex Summers would step to the podium. No microphone present, his voice would carry nonetheless as if broadcasted through speakers through out the room.
Good morning everyone. As you all know this year classes for the summer semester have been canceled... *Through out the auditorium several claps and cheers would be heard, as well as a few grunts of displeasure. Alex, would smirk.* While some of you are thrilled at this news and others less than satisfied, I assure you it is with good cause. Through out the years we here at the Xavier Institute have endeavored to not only teach you and to educate in the arts, mathematics and sciences, but we have also tried to protect you; both from others and ourselves. We are mutants, born with gifts and abilities so fantastic that it both excites and frightens the world. We have been met with both fear and wonder by the world. Despite this, we have been fortunate in the past years to have known a peace that for many of us was nothing more than a dream. *Taking a moment, Alex would look to the statue of Xavier, giving it a nod of respect.*
But it was a dream that through great efforts became a reality. BWith every peace though comes a measure of danger. Our founder and father of this school, Charles Xavier knew this, and as such he gathered some of his finest students and created the X-men. *With that a large portion of the student body would cheer and clap for their heroes. Alex would hold his hands out for a moment, pushing down on the air, a classic gesture asking for silence. Once the auditorium was silent once more he'd continue.* Many of you here have come to know the X-men as not only heroes, mutant protectors, but you've also come to know them as your mentors and friends. For some they are even family. *Pausing he'd look over his shoulder at his brother and fellow faculty, then back to the students.*Time and again these men and women have fought selfless battles both for us and for themselves so that each of us can live our lives free of fear and in peace. But the X-men are not only warriors; they are peacekeepers. Many of you here came to this school because the X-men found you in a time of need, in a time when you thought the world hated you and there was no place to go. They showed you that this most certainly wasn't true.
*Pausing, Alex would stand up a bit straighter and looking about the auditorium he would take stock of everyone gathered.* We have decided that it is time. Time for a new generation of X-men. *Pausing, Alex would listen throughout the auditorium to the hushed whispers of excitement* And it is you. This summer we will be choosing who among you is willing, capable, and ready to become X-men.
*Stepping back from the podium, Alex would take a seat, letting the next member of the faculty to stand and take their turn at the podium to speak.*

Scott Summers 8:11pm, June 20, 2010 [Edit] [Delete] | *Once Alex is finished speaking, another person steps up to the podium. All of the faculty and X-Men would know him as Scott Summers..aka Cyclops. The first X-Man. Scott's wearing a pair of khaki slacks and a blue oxford buttondown longsleeve shirt with his visor. Despite his age, Scott doesn't seem to have too much age to him, really. His hands lock behind him as he looks over the gathered in attendance*
Good morning, all of you. First, allow me to introduce myself to those students here who aren't aware of who I am. My name is Scott Summers. The man who just spoke to you, Professor Summers..he's my brother. As you all know, you have been gathered here this morning with the news that we are going to be assembling, training and deploying a new generation of X-Men. I won't get into too much detail, as there's someone else who can speak for this better than I can right now...but I will tell you all this:
To be an X-Man...it's not a right. It's not a guarantee. It is a privilege. It is an honor. When you don your suit and step out as an X-Man, you are accepting that you are representing more than yourself. You are representing a dream. The dream that mutants and humans can co-exist peacefully. You represent the ideas of a great man who gave his entire existence to this cause over 30 years ago when he created this very house. Thank you.
*Scott nods once and then steps back, moving to sit back down next to his wife as the next person would come up*
