Exactly like it sounds, give your input. Right now the idea is to set it sometime in the future. How far should it be? Should it just be a randomly indeterminate amount of time somewhere between 15-30 years (or some variation of that)? or should it be a set amount of time? Should Xavier be dead or just retired? Should Iceman have finally come out of the closet?
What do you think

I vote for a set amount of time. That way we don't have to worry about shifts in peoples' stories. 20 years sounds good to me.

And Bobby should definitely be waving the gay pride colours now.

I'm voting to have it 15-20 years. XD Of course I'm only saying 15 so my currently 10 year old won't be that old.. >_>

20 years later sounds good enough to me.

Holy crap. A whole year passed.

Anyway, a few thoughts:

We're in the future, if I may suggest we have people react like it. Communication devices like iPhones are antiquated in the way tapedecks are to us. Everyone can access the net with the touch of a button on a small, cheap device. Or something similar.

I'm not outright suggesting a cyberpunk feel (though I've been pushing for that kind of feel with the morlock community) but if we're going to have 20 years forward it might beg for something more than just the children having grown up.

Also, I might have missed out on what's happened when I did one of my vanishing routines, but in the old chat nearly every nation but the US had adopted a mutant registration act, if not control or ban. This would, I think, open up a number of possibilities for mutant rights abuse, grim living conditions, and ghettoizing. A few years back Marvel had been having story pushes with modern China having been killing mutant children at birth, locking up the rest, and discretely selling their organs on the black market. It sounds like a lot of fun to me if dozens of otherwise civilized nations were doing something similar.

It wouldn't hurt to also remember that 20 years ago there was a mass of nuclear explosions in major cities across the globe. Was it ever decided if there was any kind of nuclear winter, economic hardships, or the like?

To add to Cookie's future comments, these are the kinds of things that might have finally happened by 2030, roughly the time of the chat:

Holographic technology is used practically commercially, and is nearing the price point that anyone can afford it, as in, no longer a luxury item.

Vehicles likely wouldn't rely on fossil fuels. Electricity, hydro-power, these sorts of things would be viable alternatives, and it's likely no one source will be universally accepted. However, the US might tip towards electricity as the standard in that country.

Devices would no longer get smaller; they'd get flatter. A technology they're currently working on in OUR present time and should see commercial use within the next five years is a type of cloth that can have an electric current sent through it so that it maintains a specific shape and use. Something similar was seen in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, with Bats' cape that became sturdy with a current and fluid without. These devices can range from keyboards to multi-purpose watches/bracelets to game controllers.

Motion and touch screen technology will become practically universal. Not much more to say about that... There's loads of possibilities there.

Design and form will not change exceptionally radically; it may be twenty years in the future, but things don't change THAT much. We'll see sleeker designs, more efficient parts in building that require less replacement, better security systems that utilize a variety of methods to detect intruders.

Now, keep in mind, there are other things that change in twenty years: Civil Rights. We're talking gay rights, mutant rights, all sorts of things. When it comes to civil rights, you only need one major revolution to turn things on their ear, and it can happen in a span of a few months. Politics are one of the most rapidly morphing concepts out there, meaning what might be relevant today may not be at all relevant tomorrow.

It's my suggestion that we decide what HAS happened in twenty years that directly affects the timeline in /xf. Have there been any major rights movements? What superpower countries are allied with and against each other? These are all things to think about.

Here's another thing - paper printing. How prevalent is it in this day and age? Since I have a character in the Library now, I figure it's important to know whether he's passing out more books or .pdf files.

Excellent suggestions all, a few of them are things that I'd thought over but hadn't fleshed anything out in writing on the boards yet. A few particulars are things that haven't happened yet in X that would definitely affect the global world today. For example, Mexico is Mexico again, no longer The Red Nation, and is actually doing fairly well as far as recovery goes after converting the factories Ultron built and putting them to good use. And a new Global Initiative has replaced the U.N. and taken better steps to ensure the cooperation of nations in the safe keeping of Earth even sporting its own team of Super Powered individuals (Think of Avengers but Global and bogged down into a lot of innaction and fluff work thanks to being bogged down by beaurocracy >.>)

I'll work on getting some details up on those few things and set up Polls or whatnot to help figure out some other stuffs? As always, Questions/Comments/Suggestions always welcome.
 A Suggestion?

Even though I havent been actively involved much in the chat, I have been watching. But a suggestion. This is more because the chat is just starting instead of already being established, wouldn't a thread having people list their characters in the mansion, and how long they've been staying there? That way, just as a prevention type thing, characters dont bump into each other and are all like "Ive never seen you before, howdy-doody." WHen, really, the characters have probably slept 4 doors down from each other for the past 8 months, or whatever. Just a suggestion.

I can understand that, though at the same time it would be more likely for students on the same School Teams to know each other over anything else. By this point the school is in fact so large that it would be very easy for two students who slept four doors down from each other to never actually have met at all other than just seeing each other in the hallway at most.
Though good idea. That's actually more or less what the Student Team post is meant to do, but I'll attempt to have listed out by each person how long they've been at the school.
