- The Races -

Humans: By far one of the most numerous of the races dwelling in the world, Humans have adapted to almost every climate and location with great speed despite being considered a “young” race. Though they have various cultures across the world their base of power is centered in the Old World nations of the Empire and Bretonnia. There are not many skills or abilities the humans of the world have no learned or at least learned about being proficient in the use of swords and sorcery. With the decline of the Elven and Dwarfish Empires, Humanity now stands as one of the greatest opponents to Chaos though it also is the most easily corrupted race. Halflings: Diminutive by most standards they are short even when compared to the Dwarves. Still they are an industrious people who hail from an area of the Old World known as the Moot. Given their natural guile and cleverness they have managed to keep themselves independent from any over riding body of governance. Halflings are many times looked down upon by most other races which serves them just fine as they use their status to great effectiveness as thieves, extortionists or tricksters. They also seem to be beyond Chaos’s ability to corrupt for whatever reason though this fact is not well known. Aside from their affinity for using slings they are most well known for being exceptional chefs. For more information about Halfling societies click Here

Dwarves: Rugged and strong willed the people under the mountain are proud of their heritage. Once rulers of most of the Eastern section of the Old World, the Dwarves have a rich history of Industry and Science. Unfortunately a great war against the Elves greatly diminished their forces leaving them unprepared for a sudden Greenskin invasion of the lands causing the downfall of several fortress cities. However even as they sense the tide of history turning against them the iron will of the dwarves will not allow them to drift quietly into the night. The most skilled craftsman and engineers in the whole of the world are dwarves as well as some of the most vicious warriors. With stern resolve and gritty determination the dwarves press forward. Elves: Though it would be fair to say there are three Elven societies they are all ultimately the same race. Elegant, enchanting and eerily strange in appearance are all good ways to describe the Elves. Elongated facial features and slender pointed ears give them an alien like appearance which can be off putting for many who see them for the first time. Likewise their slender, fragile frames seem to defy appearances by allowing for acts of extremely physicality when the need arises catching many uneducated persons off guard and ill prepared. Where the dwarves are perhaps the greatest craftsmen and inventors the Elves are by far some of the most potent casters second only to the Slann Priests themselves though taught magic to the Elves in the early years of the world. Greenskins: Hailing from the wild mountains or the deep forests, the race of Greenskins has been bitter enemies of every race of the Warhammer world since anyone can remember. Led by the blood lusting Orcs, the greenskin race ranges from the mighty Black Orcs to the lowly Goblins with various breeds inbetween. While Orcs are large, thug like warriors with a simple, dull mind their smaller cousins, the Goblins, are cunning and vindictive. Within Greenskin society only the Biggest and the Strongest survive. Orcs are renoun for their violent outbursts and love of carnage to the point where they will actively attack eachother, even if faced with other opponents. Orcs also don't care much for what they eat, be it real foodstuff, corpses of fallen opponents or the unlucky goblin who wanders by. Alternatively Goblins tend to follow Orcs for protection of scavanging rights picking up what the Orcs leave behind. When threatened they usually will fall back to their larger cousins in hopes of protection. It is rare for a Goblin to attack anyone or anything unless they greatly outnumber them or at least have a clear cut advantage. For more information about Orc societies click Here

Skaven: The insidious Rat-Men of the Under-Empire. The youngest race in the World, they are also the most numerous and perhaps the most spread out. A dangerous cunning, lack of morals and paranoia shapes the average skaven’s mind making them truly dangerous enemies. On average they stand just slightly shorter then a man though that size can vary greatly. Armed with a dangerously reckless intellect and an evil mind, they seek dominance over the world above them by sowing discomfort, misery and ruin in the forms of plagues, political corruption and assassination. As if in some cruel mockery of Humanity, Skaven are capable wizards as well as scientist and warriors though they are naturally cowards. Skaven are cannibalistic in nature. Lizardmen: A rare sight in the Old World, Lizardmen prefer to inhabit the tropical zones of Lustria or southern Arby. Still, on rare occasion a body washes up on the shores of the Old World or lizard creatures are seen slinking through the woods on some unknown mission. Though regarded by many laymen as creatures warped by Chaos, Lizardmen are actually the eldest race in the World. Created and molded by the Old Ones before the Elves and the Dwarves were educated, the Lizardmen are a race of cold blooded reptilians who follow the path of the Old Ones as dictated by the Slann Priests. Of the various Lizardmen breeds only two are intelligent enough to be considered fully sentient. The Sauruses, no more intelligent perhaps then an Orc but far more disciplined, and Skinks, slender servants to the Slann Priests who are far more intelligent then their Saurus cousins. The Undead: Though perhaps not technically a race, being that any creature that was once living can be reconstituted as a living undead, they do contain within them several sentient undead creatures. First and most active in the Old World being the Vampires. Creatures made of the stuff of nightmares, they come in various shapes and sizes with keen interest on feeding on the living. Second and less well known are the Mummies of Arby, ancient undead kings to still cling to life thanks to the deranged machinations of the Liche, Nagash, self proclaimed God of the Undead. Terrifying to most sentient races, the undead are a plague upon the world. For more information about Undead societies click Here

Mutants: One of the most dangerous elements of chaos is its ability to mutant most who come in contact with it. With rare exceptions, most races are vulnerable to the warping effects of Chaos. Chief among those who feel its foul effects are the race of Men. Riddled throughout the Old World are mutants who must hide what they are ever fearful of being purged by those forces that work against Chaos in all of its forms. Within the Empire Witch Hunters and Priests of Sigmar seek out Mutants, purging them in the cleansing fire of Sigmar’s Justice. Mutations are seemingly random ranging from complete physical metamorphosis to something as simple as a patch of scaly skin. If you can imagine it chances are good it can be a mutation. In other places, mutants are created or bred in an attempt to single out specific mutations. For example, Skaven have a knack for creating potent monsters through careful breeding and controlled exposure to chaos’s warping effects. For more information about Mutant societies click Here

Beastmen: Though believed by most to simply be rogue mutants who have undergone an extreme form of Mutation, Beastmen have become, on their own, a race capable of breeding and multiplying as well as any normal man. Though their ancestors were men at one time they have since given up the path of humanity in favor of the worship of the Chaos Gods. Beastmen take the appearance of cloven hoof and hairy men shaped beasts with a rams head and clawed hands. Though believed to be dumb creatures they generally retain a level of intelligence equal to that of the average human which explains their capacity to organize raiding parties and ambushes. Unlike the brutish Orcs who simply war for no greater desire then the love of carnage, many beastmen tribes prefer to raid for food and supplies rather then wonton slaughter though there definitely are their share of murderous tribes.
