~Mordheim~

City of the Damned

In the 1999th Year of Sigmar’s Empire the city of Mordheim was hailed to be the location where the Rebirth of Sigmar would take place. Indeed a great Twin Tailed Comet was tracked with Mordheim being the location where it would fall. Peoples from all across the Empire traveled to the city of Mordheim to welcome the arrival of the Rebirth causing the city to swell well beyond its normal capacities.

As it grew in size the ruinous powers set to work calling to those desperate or power hungry in the forms of temptation and plague. Soon the city found itself degrading in debaucheries celebration of what they believed would be the arrival of Sigmar. At the turn of the New Year, as the celebrations drew to an anarchic crescendo, the comet arrived destroying part of the city and instantly killing all of the revelers who had gathered there.

Dread Mordheim became not the bastion of hope but now the demon filled city of despair as word reached the other Imperial Cities that Sigmar had punished those who had falsely worshipped his arrival. Deep within the center of the impact crater a small portal to the Chaos Wastes had been opened by the death of so many and the foul energies they had gathered in their unknowing worship of Chaos.

Beyond that growing issue the comet itself had exploded on contact sending large chucks of a strange black green rock across the entire city. The rock, known to wizards as Wyrdstone, was an extremely rare substance in the Old World and when it was discovered it was in apparent generous amounts scattered across the dead city many treasure hunters and thrill seekers migrated there to collect it.

Soon the dead city came alive with rival groups of adventurers which swept through the dangerous, chaos warped streets fighting demons and each other for the prized rock.

In the 2305th Year of Sigmar’s Empire, Magnus the Pious, Savior of the Empire, raised Mordheim, renamed the City of the Damned, to the ground and placed upon it a powerful Holy Relic closing the Gateway to Chaos. Magnus the Pious had the cities location removed from all Imperial Maps so that it might become lost to history.

In the 2500th Year of Sigmar’s Empire, following the Storm of Chaos, an unwitting Adventurer happened across the ruins of Mordheim and took from the secret artifact. Chaos spilled back through the portal and the city was reborn again just as it had been the moment the comet has struck hundreds of years before, complete with the long dead bodies of those who had died in their revelry.

News quickly spread and once again adventurers and holy men descended upon Mordheim for glory, wealth or with hopes of once again closing the gateway.

For whatever reason and or purpose all those who venture there all see the same sign as they cross the threshold.

Welcome to Mordheim.
