Dr. Vernon P. Sauz reporting...

We all know that this 'zombie' infestation started in Mexico and spread from there, but one thing that has not yet been explained until now is exactly what occurs in the mind and bodies of the subjects who are plagued with this dreadful disease. Let us go deep into the process of becoming a zombie, that we know. First, one must ingest the virus through drinking contaminated water, being bitten, scratched or otherwise having flesh-to-wound contact with a zombie. Now, once in the bloodstream the virus moves quickly and what was at first an antibody transforms, becoming the virus. This is key. The antibody becomes a virus when it enters the bloodstream of an individual because instead of ridding the water of the bacteria that causes "Moctezuma's Revenge" and making Mexico's water clean enough to drink. Instead, when ingested by humans it reacted to the bloodstream in a way completely unexpected. The actual details are unknown as of yet, though we do have theories. The primary one we are following here is that somehow while the virus slowly destroys the functions of the primary organs, effectively killing the host, it takes shelter in the brain and begins to eat away at the tissue inside the brain itself. Upon death a mass has been observed in infected individuals where the tissue once was. Over a span of 3 hours--depending on the health of the individual--that mass swells to the size of a small acorn and produces a hormone we've called 'hZ' that stimulates the basic functions of the brain and reactivates the nervous system. This allows movement in the infected post-mortem. This new organ is extraordinary in the simple fact that it allows the reparation and re-establishing of functioning of the brain after functioning has ceased, which promises much for the future of medicine.

More updates are to follow shortly as to our further findings.

OOC Info:
How does the virus spread?
-sexually
-drinking contaminated water
-biting
-scratching
-spitting into an open wound
-contact from an infected person into a non-infected person's open wound

We have done something terribly wrong. We thought we could vaccinate against the virus, but we were wrong. The subjects were given a synthesized form of the virus, much like we do to all other viruses when creating a vaccine or cure. Well, it had the same effect killing the subjects, but instead of coming back seemingly brain dead they are unlike any others. They have full function of their brains and can operate their bodies at peak human capacity. Fortunately we were able to isolate all but 3 and burn them. The 3 broke out and we are trying our best to track them down.

From what we have observed other zombies don't seem to notice them.

OOC Info: **These have all been taken**
Race: Hybrid
-Peak human capcity for strength, speed, agility, etc.
-Intellectual Capacity of host while living
-Other zombies do not bother them
-When they infect other individuals those individuals become NORMAL zombies, not hybrids like them. They can carry and infect others.

We have made some progress after analyzing the behavior of nearby zombies. It seems, those that die retain most of their brain functions, or at least their memories during the first 4-8 hours of life. Also, depending on the subject's health at death and the body they're capable of running at great speeds. Though, after 4-8 hours we theorize it is the air and external conditions speeding up the process of decomposition causing the muscles to stiffen and causing the subject to resort to the slow-paced trudge we've all grown accustomed to since the outbreak.

I would like to announce we also have some exciting news about the spreading of this disease and how to possibly curb it. Or at least treat it. We've all noticed here that one thing all our subjects have in common that have become infected and died rather quickly is they had malnutrition, most to a severe extent. This next point we have proven that it works. If you get bitten you can take a multivitamin as well as squeeze orange juice, or some other kind of citrus rich in vitamin C over the wound and it should at least slow the infection. You need to do this within 15 minutes of infection, otherwise you won't be able to rid the disease from your body. Also, if you have something hot you can cauterize the wound and that should heal the infection--but this needs to be done within 5 minutes of being infected. We are currently working on a medicine in pill form to combat the virus. Let me reassure you that it is not based off the virus, but is nutrient based. Designed to put back in your body what the virus destroys. Nutrients. The virus has to break the nutrients down in order to then shut down the organs. We will have the pills ready shortly and will be distributing them when we can. If you wish to be on the dist list please place your name and address here (link to Survivor.net's forums). Good day and God help us!

OOC Info:
Basically they're treating this like an immune deficiency. You may be a carrier forever but you can still at least treat it.

We have discovered something very intriguing. Animals can be carriers of this dreadful disease but are not infected by it. We discovered this after seeing animals roam amongst the dead without distracting them or really causing any reaction. We tested one of the animals and found that they were indeed infected, we also captured several insects such as mosquitos and got them to draw blood from the animal to see if they can also be carriers. Luckily, they cannot. The virus cannot survive in an insect's body.

Unfortunately, in our animal trials one of our comrades became infected with the virus and has turned. Luckily, due to our infection procedures we were able to isolate her in a containment unit prior to her reawakening. We've observed something else that's quite interesting. Victims of the virus seem to have either lost, or very limited sense of smell. Much like senior citizens who claim to lose their sense of smell shortly before passing, victims of the virus also have little to no use of their sense of smell. They primarily function on the use of their sight and hearing to move about. It is intriguing to see that one of our security officers was able to sneak right behind the infected individual without alerting her. Sadly, after our short trials, she was executed. She was a good colleague..

OOC Info:
What does this mean? Well, zombies can't smell. They function off sight and sound, so try and be quiet and you can probably stay reasonably hidden.
