Would it be possible to add a 'shut up' function to the chats, Tino? It would act similarly to banning, except the person wouldn't be ejected from the room, just unable to post for the given number of seconds.

I think this would be a useful tool in cases where moderators need to silence people, but not necessarily make them go through the embarasment of getting banned, having to log back in, etc.

If anyone has an opinion on this, it's welcome.

..and this is only edited because my fucking fingernail whacked 'enter' instead of '?' for the subject.

that seems pretty childish on the part of a moderator, to require such an ability. it's pretty personal to gag someone when they're still in a room, even if they're acting like the world's biggest asshole. do you really require such schoolroom tactics to 'teach' people to behave how you want them to? isint Roleplay already fucked to hell and back, is dicipline what's needed to help it grow back to where it was? ( can anything help it do that, anyway? ) or is it just another 'cane' in the hands of moderators to bash people into neat little well-behaved queues?

maybe more concern should be given to improving what's already there..it's not like people write badly because every now-and-then a flooding git walks in. no, wait..you'd just ban one of those. i really dont see how this ability would make the RP better, it'd just make the moderators happy.

How in the holy hell did you get the impression that I was suggesting such a function would improve the RP in chat rooms?

Snowy, I have a feeling you just felt the need to bitch and moan, but for the sake of argument, I'll clarify.

The ability to 'silence' people would be in situations where an argument has gotten out of hand, but where a full-fledged banning would be unecessary. I think any admin can relate to this - we've all seen the situation where normally decent people get fired up and start slinging insults, cussing eachother out, etc, etc, blah blah blah.

In those cases, it would be nice to be able to just shut them up for half a minute while you rein in the chaos.

I'm sorry you feel the role-playing is beneath your standards, Snowy, and that you think all of us "evil nazi moderators" are just out to "ban everyone who doesn't agree with us." But that whole jaded net-person shpeal has gotten just a little old. I suggested this rule so that I could use the LIGHTEST touch possible when moderating...and figured simply silencing someone briefly, while I take care of the situation, would accomplish this. Nobody likes to be banned.

This could be a very useful tool... I know only too well, with some of the crap I have had to deal with, concerning you know who (see apology)...

If this would have been around, then it would made our job a hell of a lot easier

yea, like i said..your FEELINGS ARE WRONG. you asked for input, that's how i feel on the subject. somehow i knew you'd get hissy about this.

i know enough about decent writing to offer the opinion of somebody who'd prefer to see that side of net roleplay enhanced. how many arguments such as those you describe have you been having in Kingdom? when someone doesnt agree with your ideas, you'll just shut them up? you have them all on AIM or whatever, anyway. it just seems like people think more control is a good thing, and this, to me..is an enhancement of the admin's powers over everyone else. gagging sucks.

I reckon it's an okay idea for RP rooms, I remember what people can get like (howland anyone?). We don't really have a use for it though.

Alrighty...listen up Snowy(and others...if any). If you don't like the idea of getting a silence command..than don't use it if we get it. With Rave, I know he does a lot. He handles quite a bit in real life, plus does his best in Kingdom Come(Great Job by the way Rave), plus manage to get some RPing time of his own in.(Or so I believe.) Jugging on what I have heard him say in the past, having people constantly flash up on AIM with their bitching and moaning is one pain in the ass. A pain most admins in this place can't deal with. Almost all the admins on JJ know how hard it is to role-play, keep their chat running smoothly, plus keep up on their lives outside of this. In many a role-playing chats, disputes break out over whatnot and such. The silence command is not just ''when someone doesnt agree with your ideas, you'll just shut them up,'' its when people continue not to liston to the rules in the chat and do not bring the subject that peeves them up, like mature people should, THEN the silence command would be used. Being banned is little to heavy a command to pull on them. Having just a anonymous silence command would both take out any possibilty of embarassing the person getting banned and having to use such a severe action in the first place.

There...said my bit...

The 'silence' function is a great idea actually. Something that would keep people from posting for just a short period of time but they could still see what is going on. That way there are levels of moderation instead of going straight to a temp-ban. I know that there are a lot of situations where banning seems a bit too harsh but there is no other option. There have been so many times where I didn't want to ban but it came down to a last resort sort of thing.

Also, another suggestion to throw out here, is there any way that mods could have the power to clear the chat? I am wary of making someone an admin since they can mess with the room coding but the two admins we have aren't always around to clear the room when some insult-flinging-yo'-momma-so-fat-beat-downs are left in the room. Just an idea, anyone else feel anything about this?

I'll see about the Silence function. Could be useful indeed.

And to Amarantus, give the person the Clear [C] flag and they can do it. It's been around for a very long time...which just tells how badly documented this place is.

..is what I'll say about this. Sure, let these roleplay chats have some sort of "gag" function. The Admins there have their own reasons that they prefer not to, won't, or can't handle certain problems with chatters. That's their choice since Tino has bestowed upon them a chat and the power to run it as they see fit. As a former member of the Amarantus chat community and Kingdom Come, though, I know that they are run in a "our way or the highway" sort of mindset, which is allowed here PJJ and is not really the issue. I just felt I had to point out that I have been censored in both chats for voicing ideas opposite of the Admins or that were deemed "inapropriate". My point is not that I feel wronged or that I've been dealt some dose of injustice, but that those that seem to be in favor of it ( when concerning roleplay) are , at times, extreme censors themselves. I suppose it's always good to know the "why" and "who" when such requests are placed.

I have no problems with temp banning people who aren't following the rules, so I really have no real urge to "gag" them. I don't think it's neccessary.

It's interesting how this has, yet again, given Snowey a chance to bash role players and other people a chance to insult the Amarantus.

Here's a clue: You don't have to use every feature. If you don't like the idea of a "gag" button, don't use it.

Here's another clue: If you don't like a room, or how the room is run... don't go into it. Wow. Amazing.

Here's yet another clue: If you don't like role playing, don't role play. Is it really neccessary to insult people who have different interests than you in EVERY SINGLE POST YOU MAKE? Did a roving gang of role players once make it a habit of beating you up every day and stealing your lunch money or something?

Someone posted a suggested feature, which is part of what this board is for. If Jezrel decides to implement it, on top of all his other great features, then nobody is going to force you to use it at gunpoint. Get some perspective.

Oh -this is so funny-is Snowy into everything? She really does spread her legs wide! Everyone is bashing her -all over the board. Seems it's only her -that can run a chat.
-An OOC chat where dildo's fly for people that can't get sex, and people chat how they badly need a blow job!
-How she wants every guy to eat her pussy and even begs for it at times.
-Just cause she is one of the latest chats to be added into PJJ, she sure has lots to learn. The world here doesn't revolve around her.Even if her fellow wankers do.
-(To, Snowy)It's time you stopped your childish whispers and the use of your ignore button

Cackles...and still cackling!

A certain degree of courteousness is expected on this board, people.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but do try to moderate your choice of words...

I believe Solace's post showed the most sense, and it's basically right. If you don't like something, don't use it.

And that stops this thread. Wax seal and all.
