Strain between the United States and the Watchtower first alluded to, with Statesman and President Nixon at odds with the role of the Watchtower in world politics. Lord Arachnos established the League of Villains, before defeated by Statesman and the Watchtower in Russia. 1960's: Statesman chooses to resign in a public protest, rather then intervene with the Watchtower in the Vietnam War, believing it to be a waste of lives and contrary to what the Watchtower stood for. Nixon establishes from its remains, Project Sentinel. Project Sentinel becomes a military aligned program, assisted by scientist Dr. Malcolm Cobb, creating super-soldiers that swiftly win the Vietnam War for the United States. Statesman relocates to Antarctica, the heroes remaining from the Watchtower staff go to ground, save a few who resume a vigilante lifestyle. Godzilla emerges and lays waste to Tokyo, before returning to the sea, prompting the research into Kaiju. 1970's: Lord Arachnos dies in prison, the Statesman returns for his funeral. The Sentinel program seems to be slowly, turning the United States into a police state. When Statesman intervenes in a race wars riot, protecting a peaceful protest, he becomes a target for Project Sentinel. Gathering the old heroes together, they discover that Lord Arachnos yet lived- His mind transferred into the body of Dr. Malcolm Cobb, who then replicated it with his Sentinel super-soldiers. They manage to defeat him, the Sentinel Program is shut down and Nixon resigns. 1980's: In Castlevania City, Count Dracula meets in secret with the heads of the Russian Government, the United States and China and England, forming the Shadow Treaty, promising aide in exchange for secrecy. Alien refugees come to Earth, seeking refuge. The Blue Lion is discovered and though it defies all attempts to awaken, scientists begin the process of reverse-engineering. Plans for a new Watchtower program begin to circulate, the foundations placing it in Japan. 1990's: The technically third incarnation of the Watchtower is established in Tokyo, Japan. Notable students around this point consist of Kiryuin Satsuki, Matoi Ryuko, Lucifer Tepes and Scarlette Rider, Tarantula of the Shirai Ryu Clan and others. The staff is a mixture of old and new, various immortals seeking to pass on the knowledge gained. A leap in technology occurs, thanks to the alien refugees and the discovery of the Blue Lion. The Watchtower manages to successfully defeat new threats that arise in the world, such as Dr. Otto Von Klaw: Cyborg mad scientist. The Legions of Anubis, corrupted by dark sorcery and Commodore Raze: Space Pirate. Aku attacks the city of Neo Tokyo and is defeated, though at a high cost. In the year of nineteen-ninety six, the first legitimate invasion from the Galra Empire occurred. An enormous mothership a fourth of the moon's size appeared, dispatching thirty-six smaller craft to bombard major cities and monuments. The Watchtower found themselves field commissioned and many led the charge, fighting off the invaders where they could. Statesman came from his self-imposed exile, fighting the Galra himself though he perished at the climax. The war ended, on the new millennium. Many lives besides the Statesman had been lost and New York City had been utterly destroyed. 2000: The aftermath prompted a mourning period, as well as one of rebuilding. No longer divided by states, the world council would be formed and the period of unification would begin. Alien races, seeing the strength of the planet would come forward. Alliances would be formed and technology would see a massive leap forward. The Galactic Garrison would be formed. War is declared and ratified against the Galra Empire and the newly formed Galactic Alliance. 2010: War has waged across the stars, on every conceivable battleground. The first five years were focused on recruitment, using the Metahumans as the poster children for the war effort. Queen Serenity calls upon the Magi of the Earth to a meeting behind closed doors, forming the Moon Council of Magi as a response for a united front of mages against all enemies. Zelretch is sighted, talking to the Queen before leaving. Mumm-Ra unleashes the Mi-Go and other nameless horrors upon the battlefields. 2015: Five years more of war, resources are dwindling. The Phoenix Force appears at the Battle of Custers Maw and destroys both fleets, patrolling in between and striking out at any ships within her sector. The war is brought to a confusing halt as both sides use the cease-fire to better prepare. Led by a council, they work in unison to both defend the Galactic Alliance from magical threats as well as repel the Dark Tapestry forces spear-headed by Mumm-Ra on the Galra Imperial side. Galactic Alliance: The name of the collective races banded together, against the forces of Zarkon. The current HQ is Earth itself- Home of the Paladins of Voltron. Galactic Garrison: The military fleet and ground forces that fight the Galra Empire. The Galra Empire: A massive collective of forces, led by Emperor Zarkon with world-devouring technology.
