T 1:04am, July 15, 2009 [Edit] [Delete] | Until the current age (the fourth age), most of the history of the world was passed by word of mouth and by the Dragonkin, but even what was passed on was limited compared to the vast amounts of history lost to the sands of time.
Dawn of Creation: The Gods did dream, and in their dream they saw a world, and when they woke, the world was created. They called it Somnium, as it was created from their dreams. To live in this world, the Gods created their children, the Dragons. Thus it was that the Gods gave balance to the world, light and dark, letting the lands grow as it would.
--The First War--
Sometime Later: The Dragons, great with their magics, saw themselves as Gods and created their own race, and named them the Primoris, the first of their children. The Gods, angered by this act, demanded that the Dragons destroy this creation, as theirs was the right to create, not the Dragons.
The Dragons, insulted by the Gods demands, refused and this caused a great war between the Dragons of Sominum and the Gods. This war unleashed massive amounts of magic across the lands. Forever changing the planet in ways neither the Gods nor the Dragons would expect. The Gods were united as one in their struggle against the Dragons, but they had made the Dragons too well, granted them great magic and strength, and all was risked in the battle. It was not until the Ruler of the Heavens, Thulamis entered. His entry into the battle elevated the war to a new level, his very blows against the Dragons caused the planet to shake. His most devastating attack killed the eldest of the Dragons, and shattered the landmass of the planet, forever altering the shape of the lands. This single act lead to the end of the war, as the Gods and the Dragons reached a compromise, seeing the destruction they had wrought.
In the end the Gods agreed to allow the mortals the Dragons had created to continue to live, and the Dragons had agreed to no longer make attempts at being Gods, and would withdraw from the world into hiding and not bother others. Before they left, with the Gods' approval, the Dragons created a second race that was closer to them, and charged with teaching and guiding the descendants of the Primoris and helping them become better.
Another result of this was is that the Primoris were scatterd across the lands, and that the magics that were used altered them. These scattered tribes of Primoris would become the forefathers of all the current races, having changed to adapt to their environments they had fled to. This would mark the end of the First Age.
--The Second Age--
Centuries Later: The Dragonkin, scholars and teachers to the other races that came from the Primoris, help to usher these races to various stages of civility. Over the years, these races lusted for power, for more knowledge, believing the Dragonkin were holding back and attacked them. This began the War for Knowledge.
This war nearly wiped out the Dragonkin, sending them into hiding. The Gods, taking pity on them, granted them the ability to change their form to allow them to hide among the other races, so they cannot be hunted anymore. In the end, the other races learned that the Dragonkin had not withheld anything, and the lesson of their own lust for power was a bitter one.
Sometime Later: A great warlord's lands come under threat from a large force. The warlord, while a great warrior, cared deeply for his lands and the people who lived there. He fought with great courage and skill, holding the enemy at bay for a year before his forces began to lose ground, people dying in cruel and brutal ways. In his desperation to save his people, he made a pact with a God, believing he was speaking with a God of Light, but instead it was one of Dark. The Dark God granted the Warlord the power to defeat the enemy, but the cost for such an act forever changed the warlord. He would become a creature of the night, the rays of the sun harmful to him. He would thirst for the blood of the living. He would forever be remembered as Vladimir Teps Drakule, the Lord of the Vampires and father of their race.
--The War of the Dead--
The thirst for blood led Vladimir to turn many people from the races into Vampires, causing a war to errupt across the lands. In order to combat this threat of the night, an Order of Paladins was formed, powered with Holy Magic and by the Gods of Light. They beat back the waves of Vampires, killing most of them and sending the rest running and eventually cornered Vladimir. However, before they could slay him, the Gods of Light appeared and showed Vladimir what he had done, lifting the madness of the thirst for blood from his mind and allowed him to see how he had brought the ruin he had sought to avoid on the people he once ruled over. In anguish, he wanted the Paladins to slay him, but the Gods stayed their hands. Saying he must one day redeem himself, he fled into the night and sealed himself away into a deep sleep, hoping one day to wake and finally redeem himself for his actions.
Decades later:
During the war with the Vampires, a Mage had seen the power that they possessed and desired that power, the immortality he saw there. This lead him into darker magics, hoping to one day have all the powers of the Vampire, but none of the draw backs like the bloodthirst. This lead to the creation of the Necromancer, the Lord of the Dead. Thus it was he had dominion over the corpses and dead bodies that littered the country side from the Vampire conflict. So it was the war with the Dead was resumed when he led a great mass of dead against the mages of the world, hoping to uncover relics and powerful knowledge to advance his hunger for power and knowledge.
This war was devastating, as each person felled by the Necromancer's forces was raised and added to his growing army. In the end, his army was turned back by a combination of the mages and Paladins, using their combined might to destroy the armies of the dead, turning their bodys to ash, unable to raised again and blasting the Necormancer Lord, destroying his body. This would end the second age.
--The Third Age--
At the start of the third age, unknown to all, the Necromancer Lord had survived. His spirit floating aimlessly across the lands until he was drawn forth by a Onyx Dragon who named himself as Khaos. The dark dragon had allowed himself to dwell on the war with the Gods, and decided to aid one who may bring ruin to the world that the Gods had created.
To this end, he aided the Necromancer Lord's spirit by forging a new body for him, showing him how he may live forever, and should his body be destroyed, how he can form it again new by placing his soul into a special vessel that would prevent him from passing into the afterlife. Thus it was that the Necromancer Lord became the first Lich. Placing his soul into a Phylactery, the now Lich Necromancer, with access to more magic than he would have thought, went out into the world to seek true immortality, and to have his vengeance against those who had destroyed his mortal body.
--The War of Magic--
Taking the name of Vici Letum and wrapping himself in heavy black robes, he formed a new cult, and drew many mages who were of like minds and grew tired of the slow learning that the mages were used to doing. With this Cult, he began to sent out his dark servants, using them to sew unrest and discord in the other races, leading to wars breaking out between the races.
During this time, a meteor struck the planet, creating a large crater. Mages were drawn to the meteorite and investigated the ore which comprised it's makeup and discovered that the ore of the meteorite was able to hold magical powers very efficiently, over the more common terrestrial minerals of the planet. Word of this reached Letum, and he drew forth the full power of his forces and sent them forth to attack the site of the meteorite and take it for himself.
The war lead to a powerful end when during the final battle, the forces of light and the forces of dark clashed at the crater of the meteorite and ended up unleashing a massive amount of magic, causing the meteorite to explode, sending fragments across the face of the world and caused a massive upheaval of the earth that it formed a new mountain range.
These events saw the destruction of the dark cult, and the defeat of the Lich Letum. The races formed an alliance, swearing to never again let their prejudices color their judgments. To this end, the races built a new city over the site where the meteorite's destruction happened. Mirus Res Publica, the greatest city in all the lands. Designed by the elves, crafted by the hands of the dwarves, and the labor of the humans all helped to make this wondrous city.
During the construction of the city, the greatest mages in the world gathered and formed a council. Calling themselves the Gray Council, they laid down the rules of magic, making sure that the magics were never abused again.
The land was changed as well. The release of magic and the destruction caused created a change in the magic of the world. Now when one used magic, it would need balance. When one casted a spell, it would draw from the lands, or the caster...too much and it could cause much damage to the lands and people. Thus this is why the Gray Council keeps watch over all uses of magic, sealing away relics of the past ages, and ensuring no more Wars of Magic ever come to pass again.
These events ended the Third Age of the world.
Centuries pass...
--The Fourth Age--
One Hundred Years Ago: The alliance has fallen to dust. The races have retreated to their own lands. Humans rule over Mirus Res Publica, using it as the center of the empire they now rule. The Elves have retreated to their forests, and the dwarves to their mountains to continue to mine the stone and minerals. The Gray Council remains aloof and isolated from the rest of the lands, worrying only over the magic and little else.
Current Times: The lands are troubled once more. Thieves and cutthroats are on the prowl as dark things move through the nights. The nobles of the human empire desire the technology of the dwarves and their 'Black Powder', seeing it as a weapon of great potential. The Elves war with their dark brothers, the Drow. The Dwarves battle things in the depths of their mines and with the Gnomes on their borders. Pirates cause major problems for merchant guilds who ship their resources by sea...all the while an unseen force moves to take advantage of these events.
