He went back to his work in Africa shortly after he got sick. He...he took on some demons when he was still weak. They... There is a pause as she gets herself together There isn't much left but the people he was protecting are going to send what they were able to cremate. I...we...there will be a memorial service as soon as we get the ashes. With that, there is a pause, some muffled talking in the background, and then she hangs up. I was trying to find some grasp on a situation I couldn't control, and the lack of control terrified me. I almost lost you. I almost lost someone I love more than life itself and I was and am still willing to do anything and everything I can to prevent that from happening again. I've watched my husband die before. I sat by him like I sat by you. I was scared. For some reason, that fear didn't completely go away even after you woke up. I'm sorry that I let the fear take over. I'm sorry that I let it make me stubborn. I'm not sorry that I stood my ground in what I felt was my right to be able to reach you if I needed to, but I am sorry that I didn't realize if I was being irrational. I think I am being irrational at this point. I know why, of course. I'm not sure how to get rid of the problem besides confront it head on. I made an appointment to see a therapist so I can work through the death of my ex-husband and the abuse I've been through in past relationships. I never really worked through any of that and I'm sure it's affecting the way I react to something as simple as being unable to get ahold of you to ask you to pick up milk while you're out.
