1.) The Golden Rule - Common Courtesy: Many chat rooms end up dying because people act like jackasses. You want to play here then I expect that you'll show everyone, both players and admin, some respect. If you have any complaints about someone, take it to private, not everyone in the chat may share your opinion of that person. If an admin asks you to do something then please do as they say, no one is going to ask you to do something obscene. At the end of the day my word is final, if I ask you to do something and you refuse, you're gone.
2.) The Silver Rule - Applications: Applications are required. The setting for Shafador is pretty streamlined to only allow the races in the setting, and only allow magic users using the rules we have posted on the wiki. This is not a traditional free form fantasy chat where anyone can play anything, while character concepts can be pretty open and broad, there are certain limitations and because of this we need people to apply for characters so we can monitor everything.
3.) Room Rating: The room is rated NC-17 to allow people creative freedom to RP whatever they want, however this is not an excuse to cyber fuck each other in the middle of the chat. We ask that you keep things tasteful and classy, treat the chat like a proper lady and don't whip your dick out every chance you get.
4.) Harassment: Please refrain from "begging," this means if you are looking for RP only ask people once, if they say no then respect their choice. This also goes for ongoing RP, ask before you hop in as the scene may be part of a particular storyline and your interference may be more disruptive than appreciated. The bottom line is, always ask permission but always try to keep RP open.
5.) Common Sense: If it sounds stupid, it probably is, use your judgment. You put your character in a spot where they can die, then it is out of your hands if they are killed.
6.) Drama: Please keep the drama out of the room. If you have a problem with someone before or after joining the chat let someone in charge know but do not go out of your way to cause problems with them. If you don't like someone, use /ignore ident 9999999 so you don't have to deal with them and report the problem to an admin or mod.
7.) Meta-Gaming: This means using OOC information IC. Just because you know a bomb is about to go off does not mean your character does, likewise if you have knowledge your character does not, such as knowing how to make medicine while your character has no knowledge of medicine you cannot use your real life knowledge. This also includes dodging every hit and landing every hit. If I see to much of this I will start enforcing mediation or dice rules.
8.) Tolerance: I'm enforcing a zero tolerance 3 strikes rule, this means that if you screw up you will be banned, if you are banned three times the next time will be permanent.
9.) Profiles: Profiles are required. They do not need to be detailed or artsy, but must contain at least a most of the information you presented in your character application. Any changes made post registration must first be discussed with an admin.
10.) Death: Death sucks no matter if its real or in play, but it happens. If your character dies deal with it and make a new character. Some characters are capable of persisting after death in the Wake as ghosts, some are even capable or returning from death such as the Marrokin or the Duk'zarist, we still ask that you play them responsibly.
Combat Rules
In the chat we have many custom made forms of magic that use intricate rules that are beyond most chatrooms. We ask that you follow these rules when playing a character that uses them, simply to support a fair balance between players. Each type of special power (Magicka, Dominion, and Psycher) has their own unique rules you need to follow, we suggest you read through each system if you intend to play a character that uses them.
As for standard combat, we have some general guidelines to keep fights fair and balanced. First of all, a character can only make one attack per post, this is to keep posts short and move combat along quickly as well as to prevent characters from unleashing 10-20 sword swings in a single post. There are Dominion Abilities that allow a character to make multiple attacks per post, which is meant to elevate characters with these abilities above the rest. Activating a supernatural power such as a spell or psychic matrix counts as your attack, even if it is not used as an attack. As an optional rule if you wish to add some randomness to your fight I will be writing up a simple dice combat system, though for now we suggest that you simply use the following:
Attack rolls 1d100 after posting attack, defender rolls 1d100 and matches outcome to attackers roll before posting. If the attacker rolled higher the attack succeeded, similarly if the attacker rolled lower the defender succeeded. In either case the defender then posts their reaction and if necessary they become the attacker, the process then repeats itself. The first person to land 3 successful blows wins the fight. Please remember these rules are guidelines> but both players must agree or disagree to use them or not.
