// Rules & Guidelines //

We are all adults in this chat, so I expect everyone to treat each other with respect. The ignore command is a last resort, not just because you don't like someone. If you have an issue with someone, please talk to them, again we are all adults...share the sandbox people.

The Rules will be enforced by Moderators and Administrators. They will be clearly marked with unique symbols to the left of their handle in chat. Any disrespect shown toward Chat Staff may be subject to banning at the discretion of that staff member. Do not argue with moderation staff in the chat. If you believe you've been slighted in some way, take it out of chat with that staff member.

Let me be clear, I believe I (and the rest of the staff) am a fair moderator albeit a bit of one with a serious disposition— but if you respect me and your fellow players, I respect you. Don’t… and well, I turn into a shark. Please for the love of everything, let’s not turn this into a shark movie. With that said, here are some brief guidelines to note so we can have a fun time and not a shitty time.

[01] CIVILITY — The GM staff should be respected at all times, but not just them. Your fellow players should not be belittled, condescended, or felt unwelcome. Even if you are frustrated you should make sure you are not antagonizing your peers. This is not to say you have to “handhold” them or “sugarcoat” yourself— but you need to follow rules of civility. There is no question about that.

[02] HARASSMENT — You may consider this an extension of rule number one. Harassment of any type will not be tolerated from anyone. Even if you are a friend of the faculty there will be consequences to you acting like an objectively shitty person. This included the spreading of personal information, unsolicited personal photography, flame-baiting or trolling on or off the site, and insidious manipulation of others. You are an adult and such actions are absolutely unacceptable.

[03] SPAM — No spamming, flooding, or intentional intrusions of the chat. None. There will be no repetitive posting which disrupts activity within the context of the environment and when there is RP occurring you need to bring OOC to a minimum or strictly to whispers or the message boards. Full OOC conversations can throw off the momentum of the RP and you will be expected to respect the momentum of the RP and allow it to take precedence.

[04] EVENTS — For any event that effects a large region, or a global event, a corresponding thread or recorded OOC discussion before or after to the event should be made describing the event and any effects it causes to other characters.

[05] COLLABORATION — Use of the ‘Closed’ RP icon should be only used where the RP going on is in a location that nobody would be able to access or if it is a continuation from a previous RP that is taking place at a different time to the rest of the chat. Basically the principle is keep things open and allow players to participate. Be cool.

[06] IGNORING — The ignore feature cannot be used on a person without valid reason (logging into a chat and immediately ignoring someone is right out). The ignore feature cannot be used to bar someone from participating in an Open RP, or in an Ask First RP that the person has been voted into if it is reasonable for their character to be there. If you have someone on ignore and you begin to participate in an rp with they are involved in, you must un-ignore the person (/unignore ID). With the OOC rule in place, there shouldn't be further reason to keep the person ignored at that point. If they continue an OOC discussion that you have informed them you do not wish to continue with them, you can report them for harassment to an available moderator or administrator.

[07] GAMING — No God Modding, Power Gaming, and Meta-Gaming (a subjective term,but will come down to the Chat Master's discretion). We all want to enjoy our time in the chat so everyone should be considerate and not rp like it is for yourselves only. Any instance of this going on if it cannot be resolved between the chatters, please see a staff member. Staff contact information can be found by clicking the staff icon on upper left hand corner of the chat.

[08] CIRCUMNAVIGATION — It should probably go without saying, but using any method to access the chat while you are banned will result in a lengthening of that ban.

[09] TOXICITY — If chat staff agree that a member of the chat is seen as destructive to the chat/community, that member can be banned even if current rules set in place were not broken.

[10] DEBATE — No discussion of politics, philosophy, or theology (ie: religion) OOCly please.

// Reporting Issues //

Please for the love of all, do NOT take matters into your own hands and cause issues publicly by arguing with others about your issue. If you have a problem you wish to be addressed contact a member of the staff through private communication channels; whether you prefer whispers or instant messenger we will communicate with you as proactively as possible. The only thing causing an OOC debate through venting in OOC brackets will do is exponentially create a dramatic situation that will be bad for all parties involved and subsequently give the staff a headache.

// Appeals //

In general, any ban that a staff member initiates is available for discussion through the appeal process. Generally such things can be done by directly and privately talking to a staff member. The majority of the staff is active onsite as well as have public access to their instant messenger of choice for communication. If you bring up an appeal in the forums you will be warned and if you start an OOC crusade there will be ramifications for your behavior. The idea here is discretion, respect, and civility.
