T 10:17pm, April 29, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] | Beam Sabers are sword styled weapons that have energy blades instead of metal like traditional swords. Beam Sabers have become a popular weapon to use in battle by many warriors who opt for close combat instead of ranged fighting.
The following is a listing of Saber Combat Styles (SCS) used:
Circuit Breaker - Form I: This combat style is closely related to traditional long sword style of fighting, using long, single sweeps of the blade. While the strikes of the blade are slow, they are damaging. This style also lacks in any real defensive skills save for very basic blocking with the blade. This style is used by holding the saber hilt with two hands.
This form was used by Maverick Hunter Commander Sigma.
Way of the Metool - Form II: This is a saber combat style that focuses purely on defense. Named after the small hard hats seen around the world, the style makes harming the user of this style very hard to hit, nearly impossible. This style keeps the saber close to the user's body, using parries and blocks to form a barrier where weapons cannot pass to hit the user, much like the Metool's hard hats protecting the small robot under it. This style also uses sweeping motions of the blade to block enermy fire, this is only useful against small arms fire, stronger weapons' fire is too large and powerful to properly block with the blade. This style can be used with one or two hands.
Hunter's Edge - Form III: This saber combat style was developed by Maverick Hunter Zero. It uses a special saber blade that is highly modified to use a curved blade. This style is similar to old Katana sword fighting, as it uses quick slashes of the blade to take down an opponent. This style's attacks are not as powerful as Circuit Breaker's attacks, but they are much faster. This style is used with one hand, and has no defensive abilities, attack is it's only course. The sabers used in this style activate for one slash, then deactivate, like the old Katana style of fighting, to be unsheathed and to strike in one smooth motion, and then immediately put back into its sheath for the next strike. The curved style of the blade also cuts down on the range of the attacks as well, making this style extreme close quarters combat.
X also uses this style of combat, however, he is only a novice and can only do single, slow strikes with the saber.
Hunter's End - Form IV: This style was developed by Mavericks who were afraid of ending up being retired by Hunters who use sabers, such as, at the time, Sigma, and later on, Zero. This style of combat began development shortly after the final members of the Maverick Rebellion, lead by the X-Hunters under Sigma, were retired. This style of combat calls for precise blade manipulation. This style is meant for fighting saber to saber. This style of saber combat caused many Maverick Hunters to end up being destroyed because of the skill of this style. Users of this style become very skilled at destroying the enemy's saber during battle, thus removing their main, and sometimes, only weapon, giving a major advantage to the user. After the Doppler Revolt, where this style saw much use, many Maverick Hunters adopted this style of combat as well, seeing many advantages of it's use, even though the human council that keeps watch on the Hunters greatly disapproved of using a Maverick style. Hunters who use this style have dubbed it, "Hunter's Revenge", because it was first used to retire a Maverick who had used this style against a Hunter before. This style can be used either with one hand or two, but it is often used with two hands.
Sky Cutter Sword - Form V: This style uses a highly modified, and at the time of the style's create, illegal upgraded beam saber to use. This style was originally developed by the Maverick Agile, who was part of the X-Hunter sub-group. This style is different because it is a style that incorporates long range fighting in battle. The Saber hilts have added power source in it, along with a highly modified beam projectors that allow the user to create a blade that can be 'tossed' at an enemy over a distance. This attack can be good for catching enemies off guard, however, this attack drains the power source of the saber hilt, making the standard blade much weaker than normal. This style is a two handed form that uses extremely fast slashes of the blade when in close for combat. Later varitations of this style of combat have modified the long range slash attack so they can throw smaller slashes while grounded, this also keeps the sabers from losing too much power. Repliforce member, Colonel, later improved upon this style by working in defensive stances to protect the user from attacks. Colonel also developed the style "True Sky Cutter Sword", which was a one handed variation of the original.
Deletion Blade - Form VI: This form is a highly advanced version of the Circuit Breaker form, this style expands on the original form moves, and uses many jumps, spins and runs. It is the most acrobatic of any of the saber forms ever made. This style was started by the Maverick Bit, who began developing this form using a curved beam saber instead of the traditional beam saber. This style was never fully developed due to Bit's retirement at the hands of X and Zero, however, it would be fully developed by Sigma during the Jakob Project Incident. Sigma returned the style to a straight blade, but he went with a single handed fighting style over the traditional two handed form. Sigma also went further to include his teleportation ability in the moves, and also increased the power output of his sword when he slashed it to the ground, creating a wave of energy that would shoot out from the blade tip like a crashing wave on a shore line. Sigma named this advanced form, "Devil Blade", mainly because of the form he used at the time looked very much like a devil.
Nightmare's End - Form VII: This style was developed by Zero and used during the Nightmare Crisis. This style uses a one handed style, straight blade style of combat. This style, while not as fast as Zero's Hunter's Edge style, it has slightly better range. This form also allows for more flexibility in the moves, where Hunter's Edge had chained together in a preset fashion, Nightmare's End allows for the user to be able to add more moves on as they wish, creating a longer chain of moves. This is also why this style can only work with the straight beam saber, the curved blade saber cannot be used properly in this style, due to the shut down feature after each slash, Nightmare's End calls for the saber to be on at all times during use of the style.
Yojimbo Blade - Form VIII: This style of saber combat was developed by mercenary Reploids as a catch-all style to answer whatever they may face. This style uses many movements from the other styles, jumbled together into a patchwork of on the spot constantly adapting moves to meet each challenge the user of this style may face. While not a true form, this style does have some unique features to it. This is the only style where the user can properly use two beam sabers for combat. This style also allows for far more flexibility than any other form.
The Maverick Mercenary Dynamo uses this style.
Kenesis Blade - Form IX: This is a simple style, similar to the Hunter's Edge, this form was used by the Next Generation Reploids who coppied Sigma's original body for combat. The style uses a straight beam saber, the user dashes forward and does a quick draw of the weapon, slashing with it, before deactivating the blade and readying the next attack. The main drawback to this style is the time between attacks where the saber is deactivated, it leaves the user open to attack, which was the main flaw that X, Axl, and Zero exploited when fighting the Next-Gen Reploids.
Buster Blade - Form X: This is an incomplete form originally developed by Zero during the last part of the first Maverick Revolt which the X-Hunters were leading. This style uses both the curved beam saber and a buster arm cannon for combat, making it very flexiable for long and short range combat, but very difficult to master. The user also used the blade throwing of the Sky Cutter Blade along with Buster shots to move in closer to the target, then they would use the regular saber slashes when up close. This style could use up close buster shots, however, this has usually caused harm to both the target and the user of this style, due to the high output of the buster cannons. Zero never fully developed this style, because later on, he ends up favoring the beam saber over the buster cannon, thus developing the Hunter's Edge style.
These ten styles are currently the only saber combat styles developed to date. |
