There were many events rife with varying levels of fatality and death in the Hidden World. The Wild Hunt of Samhain, the X-Crawl of Las Vegas. The Tri-Wizard Tournament and even the Dark Internet, livestream death tournament known as Mortal Kombat had their place. But the Holy Grail War of Fuyuki City? Ah, now there was a prize that many would descend to through a sea of blood and had.

Seven spirits of myth and folklore, summoned into the variant classes. Saber. Archer. Lancer. Rider. Caster. Berserker. Assassin. All paired with magi, all competing for the prize of a wish.

The third war for the Holy Grail was said to have been brutal. During World War II, the Grail had been among the prizes sought by Kemmler, and by extension the Nazi party. Perhaps fortunately, they were put to confusion due to the actions of the Church as well as unusual allies.

No less than three trails purportedly leading to the Holy Grail were discovered by Kemmler, one of them leading to Hatay, the second to Greece. The final one was discovered in Fuyuki City, as the main prize of the War.

With their representative Darnic Prestone sent, Kemmlers forces established themselves and won the grail. But they and his nazi allies didn’t count on Darnic and his greed overpowering his fear. In mid-flight to Berlin, the grail of Fuyuki was stolen and it vanished from the world. It was one of the few times that Kemmler would find himself frustrated in his aims.

Hatay was a failure, his forces sent wiped out by the actions of a certain archeologist agent of the United States. In Greece, his forces were wiped out by the dead as Hades himself repelled him, citing the Grail to be in his custody. And so the first was lost and the second, to this day believed to be in the custody of Hades still, though none can confirm this.

But the Greater Grail? Despite its loss, it existed yet and manifested its power in the form of the lesser wars around the globe, after expanding its power to choose the masters for the Fourth War of Fuyuki. It was the closest opportunity for those involved to seize the Greater Grail from whomever had it, and magi chosen flocked the world over to seize it for themselves.

That ended in failure and the last surviving participant ordered his servant to destroy its avatar, causing the Great Fire of Fuyuki- One of the more twisted occult events for those in the know. It was believed that would be the end of it and no more Grail Wars would manifest. But it was not to be.

Once more, command seals appeared for those slanted to face off in the Fifth Holy Grail War. Uncertain of what it meant, the magi prepared themselves to fight.

But rather then servants, the magi gained special cards that allowed them to manifest directly as heroic spirits. A failsafe perhaps for the Grail to act when low on power. The only servant to manifest was that of Ruler- A servant who declared itself the representative of the Grail to ensure things went well.

Treachery was discovered however, and Ruler alongside the Magi with the class card of Archer fought the remaining servant of the prior war, driving him off. Since then, the ‘Grail Wars’ around the globe had only ever displayed class cards and a single Ruler.

Until New York City happened.
