Just as in the mundane world, animals populate the lives of people of the Hidden World. Some use them as familiars to keep them company or facilitate the casting of certain spells, others offer exotic beauty found only in fantasy, some as bizarre delicacies in certain circles.

But what if there was something hidden to even the hidden, a world bound so deep in secrecy its roots trace back to the dawn of life on Earth, long before humans ever even descended from the trees?

This is the secret life of pets.

***

This is to be a series of mini campaigns using only animal characters. Magical and fantasy animals are welcome, as are the mundane and non-magical sort! Pets of existing characters are also encouraged, as they work to unravel mysteries even their masters are ignorant to.

Be aware that the species you choose to play may have unexpected difficulties associated with it. Being a tiger sounds cool, but you will have a hard time navigating New York City as one. Playing a dog may lead to unwanted attention from animal control and choosing a rat may get you in the crosshairs of the local exterminator.

For the purpose of simplification, "human" in this context refers to sentient creatures only. Animals considered to have human-like levels of intelligence are not applicable here (dragons, for example).

Please use this thread to post the animal PCs you wish to use for this campaign!

Primal is an additional Approach all animal characters have. Where humans and human-descended beasts have magic, animals have primus. Primus is a type of primal earthen magic that hearkens back to Earth’s beginning. All animals are imbued with primus in one way or another, some more than others. It is the force that unifies animals as one, and is best described as a form of magical empathy. Dissonance of primus is found only in humans, leaving them ignorant to the workings of the animal world.

Like the veil of the Hidden World, primus also allows animals to obfuscate their abilities and dealings from the world of humans. Primus is what allows all animals to understand each other, regardless of species. It also affects the way in which you interact with other animals. Consider primus as a ranking of your "alpha status"; a high Primal score allows you to influence the opinions and actions of other animals more, and in turn makes you less susceptible to the influence of other animals. Conversely a low Primal score means you will defer more to others with higher ranking.

Successful Primal checks against animals allow you to influence their behavior and force them to accept your way of thinking. Or, it can be used to defend against attempts to convince you of acting differently.

Primal Approach rolls are used against humans only to obfuscate. All attempts to influence humans using primus are always treated as a total roll of 0.

Animal PC Approaches available to you are Careful, Clever, Forceful, Primal, Quick, and Sneaky. You can distribute your animal’s stats as +3, +2, +2, +1, +1, and +0. An animal PC will have a High Concept, a Trouble, two Aspects, and two Stunts.
