On a previously uninhabited island far off the coast of the main continent, a new city is built. It is the new home for a lost people, diminished by war and hoping for a new start and a chance at peace.
Under the direction of Empress Ong Xifeng, it is built in the traditional style of her people, but by Enclave hands. However, in their zeal to help and their tendency to make things quite large, the city is much too large for the small group.
The Empress invites all who seek a fresh start and a chance at a peaceful life to join her at Xenshi. There are many houses, shops, and farmlands open for the taking, entirely free to those who want them. Also, anyone who is interested in joining the guards need only talk to the Empress.
There is a port a couple miles downstream from the city to allow people to come and go by ship if they like, and also located near the port is a portal set up that connects to a portal on the main continent in the forest. |

*Forest: This is a dense forest that covers much of the island
*Mountains: Most of the island is a mountain chain.
*Beach: This is the beach that encircles most of the island.
*Port: This is just a very tiny town with docks, mostly populated with fishermen. This is mostly just used as a landing/departure point for travelers to and from the island and there is a road and a ferry upstream to the city. (If there is interest in expanding the port town, that is fine)
(for Xenshi Forest, Mountains, and Beach, use the "Xenshi" icon with the "Common" icons)

Xenshi, City of the Returning Flame, is built in the shape of a circle, or perhaps more fittingly, a wheel. There is a wall that encircles it as well as streams that provide water to the city and divide the city up into twelve equal sections.
*Palace: This is located at the very center of the city. It is built up high to overlook the city and the streams encircle it as well.
*Marketplace: This is the yellow districts on the map. Here there are shops of all kinds as well as most of the personal residences. (This location still exits but has no icon. Simply use the general Xenshi icon instead)
*The Celestial Dragon: This is a specific inn, owned by Qing Yuan. It has a restaurant, rooms for rent, and a hot springs. Details here.
*Training Grounds: These are the red districts on the map. Here is where people will be sent if they are in a personal fight, also anyone who wants to do some training can come of their own free will. There is so much space dedicated to it as the people do desire not only to maintain the balance of both a fit body and mind but also desire to learn to protect themselves after the tragedy that they suffered that brought them to the island. Having them spread around ensures that able-bodied fighters could easily be called in to nearby disturbances or to defend the wall.
*Temple: This is the white district on the map. Not only is there a temple located in this district, but there can also be found quiet gardens for meditation, places of healing, and places of learning, such as the library. Xiao Xing is the high priestess here.
*Farmlands: These are the green districts on the map. There are also some located outside of the walls, but they are mainly inside to both give them protection and also to continue to provide food for the city in case there is a siege. (This location still exits but has no icon. Simply use the general Xenshi icon instead)

Morwyn 4:27pm, November 23, 2009 [Edit] [Delete] | The city of Xenshi has an ancient chinese feeling to it, from the sloping rooftops and bright colors to the open air markets and traditional chinese food. The people who it was built for tend to wear chinese inspired garments, even. Of course, anyone who moves in is free to eat and wear whatever they like. (This is a magic/low-tech environment, but characters can bring in their own tech if they want to)
The "native" Xenshians also have an affinity for the five chinese elements: wood, fire, water, metal, and earth. The level and type of ability as well as the number of elements one is able to use varies widely, but seems to stick with these traditional five elements. (This is purposefully left vague so that there is a lot of freedom if you wish to create an OC "native.")
Their beliefs also vary a bit and have been shaken up quite a bit lately due to recent events. However, they seem to be still some of the old chinese beliefs of balance and order, as well as looking to ancestors for guidance, but things are shifting to a more matriarchal system than the traditional patriarchal one.
The city is protected by a small army of guards, mostly women, and mostly trained in the arts of kung-fu.
NOTE: The guards all know a secret technique used to teleport others. If there is a personal fight, the combattants will be teleported to the training grounds to finish their fight so that damage to the city is minimalized. If there is a hostile who's intent is just to cause damage to the city, they will be teleported off the island altogether and onto the main continent near the lake.
History
The people of Xenshi used to be a part of a large and prosperous civilization that had existed for a very long time. However, a large war broke out against a neighboring nation. The war waged on for years and finally reached the gates of the capital city. In an effort to save some of the people, the Emperor had the guards teleport a few hundred women and children to a hidden safe location far away. Unfortunately, not long after that, the capital was taken, and the Emperor murdered.
Upon the death of the Emperor, the Empress took charge and started leading and organizing the few hundred survivors who were in hiding. With the people now made up of mostly women, positions of power were of course given to women that were traditionally held by men, and those with training formed the new guard.
Now that there is a new city, the Empress plans to lead her people and those who chose to join them into a peaceful future, a rebirth into an era of prosperity after the destruction of the fires of war.

| Re: Large-Scale Destruction RPs |
Ong Xifeng 1:54pm, April 20, 2011 [Edit] [Delete] | Just to make a clarification:
OOCly, Xenshi was created to provide a place for people to rp that would be safe from the widespread destruction rps that seem to happen so frequently in the chat. This is mostly due to the belief that no one should be forced into a roleplay that they do not wish to be a part of.
Thus, from time to time, if warnings are not heeded, it may become necessary to block all of a particular rper's characters from the island, just to maintain the safety and peace there for the rest.
A good way to think of this to get it to play out smoothly ICly would be to think of Xenshi as Rivendell was to Middle Earth: They are fully aware of the dangers that lay outside, however it is a place that the darkness cannot touch and would serve as the last refuge for the light in the world should it come to that. |
