Buzz 12:37am, January 16, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] | I just found one of the first writing's I ever did. It's bad...but it shows the begining of the character Buzz. At least, how I first came up with him. Hope you enjoy.
______________________________________________________________________
The kitchen doors of the Lambasted Sheep snapped open and hit the wall of the building with a decisive crack, as the unconscious figure of a man flew through the doorway, and landed against the dumpster across the alleyway. The man’s body bounced off and landed a short distance away as the metallic clanging of the dumpster dissipated. Two large shadows covered the man’s body as his eyes drunkenly fluttered open.
"Now, you understand that Kinhilm is serious about his money lending policies." one of the shadows said.
"You had too much, too quickly, Jack. You shoulda listened to us when we said you were going to end up on the wrong end of our fists, now we haft’a find a new drinkin’ buddy." the other added.
"Nunngh…" the battered figure uttered a guttural sound as he pushed himself to his knees. He cocked his head to the side and spit out a disgusting lump of crimson phlem "I sthill have two weekhs to pay up…why you gotths to do thisss Dafid?" he slurred drunkenly.
“No, Jack.” the first shadow said, shaking his head. “You don’t have two weeks. What you have is a bloodstream full of booze, and a debt you need to repay. If yo-"
He was cut off by the sharp crack of gunfire, and the spray of blood and brain matter all over his suit. The skullless body of his partner slumped to the ground, twitching like an epileptic at a rave concert. He spun on his heels to face the open kitchen doors. He was greeted by the still smoke-wisped barrel of a semi-automatic pistol. His eyes focused just past the gun to it's wielder; a short man in a grey jump suit with a dark stain on the front.
The gunman smiled at David and in a smooth deep voice said, "Good evening. I just killed your friend, and you're probably wondering why. Just relax, and I'm going to lay it all down for you. Your employer, Mr. Kinhilm, has been looting militia shipments intended for refugees. Not only is that illegal, but it's morally reprehensible. He's been allowed to exist in the past since his activities were the jurisdiction of local authorities. He made a mistake by coming into the jurisdiction of the militia."
David looked to the body and then back to the gunman "I don’t' understand, we didn't have anything to with that, we're just enforcers!"
A crowd from inside the bar had gathered inside the kitchen, and was watching intently.
"No, you two were just enforcers, apparently not very good ones, at that. Now he's dead and you? Well, you're at the wrong end of my gun. You are right about one thing, though. You two weren't involved with the attacks on the convoys." the man said, simultaneously motioning to the corpse, "I killed him because while he was dragging our friend Jack to the kitchen, he knocked over my drink." he finished, his face deadpan.
"You're insane!" David stammered out, a look of disbelief and fear growing on his face.
"No, I'm angry; and you're fucked" he accentuated the statement with a single, definitive pull of the trigger. Forty five hundredths of an inch worth of lead were the final period in the book of the life of David the Enforcer. His body sailed backwards and landed against the dumpster with a wet thump. The lone, empty shell casing sailed across the alley, landing in front of Jack, who looked up at the gunman, confusion apparent in his expression. The gunman returned the gaze, no expression on his face.
"Go home, sober up and move south. I wouldn't count on getting lucky twice." his voice echoed down the alley as he pulled aside his jacket and slid his pistol into it's shoulder holster. He turned to leave, heading towards the street.
"Wait!" a voice rang out from the kitchen.
The gunman stopped. "Yes?"
A tall, heavy-set man stepped forward and said, "What the hell are we going to tell Kinhilm's men when they come?"
The gunman looked over his shoulder at the man. His body shrouded in darkness, the blue within blue glow of his eyes, the mark of noble blood, stood out in stark contrast. There was a slight collective gasp from the crowd.
"If they have a problem with it, tell them take it up with the Argonon's." he said. Without another word, he walked out of the alley and down the street.

| part two... |
Buzz 3:54am, January 16, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] | The air was thick with smoke in the shianti parlor. With the dim lighting and dreamy ambiance, it would have been difficult for Garrett to see the other patrons, draped over furniture, and each other. His attention was centered on the woman next to him, though. He traced the curves of her body through her sheer nightgown as they lay there; she was drawing off the long rolled shunt, her eyes closed in silent euphoria. Slowly, her eyelids slid open as she removed the tip from between her lips. She looked up to him and he met her gaze. They turned to each other and embraced each other in a smoke filled kiss. He slid his fingers beneath the straps of her gown and began to slide them down. He moved to kiss tenderly down her neck and her lips opened in unspoken pleasure. She began to move her hands downward until…
"THWACK!" Garrett was jolted into consciousness by a stinging pain on his face. He instinctively jumped up and reached for his sidearm, it wasn't there.
"THWACK!" Again he was hit with something, his assailant hidden by the darkness. He rolled out of bed on the opposite side, landing clumsily on his feet in a sitting position. He fumbled around in the dark for something to defend himself with, his hands brushed the touch sensitive base of his bedside lamp and the bulb flared into life. He shielded his eyes from the sudden exposure to light, trying to make out his attacker. Slowly, his eyes adjusted and he could make out a medium sized figure, with something in one hand. The room lights flickered on, providing him with a better view of his commanding officer.
"Having fun?" the man said, his voice slightly gravelly from too many years of smoking. "Put your hands down, I'm done hitting you. Though, by all rights I should string you up for what you've done."
Garrett lowered his hands, and saw that what he had been hit with was a newspaper. "What the hell is that?, Donovan?" he asked.
Donovan unfolded the paper and threw it down on the bed. Garrett stood up and examined it. There was a photograph of the alley shooting, above the fold.
"Hey, I made front page again!" He said jubiliantly.
"THWACK!" was the response from Donovan's right hand. Garrett took it without complaint, but rubbed the sore spot afterwards.
"What the hell is your problem, Garrett?" he yelled. "You can't go around killing
Kinhilm's men without attracting his attention!"
"Calm down, old man. It's not like he didn't know we were going to be on case! He attacked three convoy's, what does he expect us to do?" Garrett said.
"I don't think he expected our men go around randomly killing his enforcers!" Donovan shot back.
"Some enforcers, they didn't even know I was there until I killed one of them…" Garrett retorted.
"That's not the point!" Donovan shouted.
"Then what is the point?" Garrett shouted back. "Aside from coming in here and smacking me with a newspaper, waking me from a very good dream might I add, all you've done is yell at me and tell me things I already know!"
"The point is, it sets a bad example for the enlistee's! You're second in command on this base and well respected by just about everyone. Doing things like that promotes vigilantism, and we can't have that." Donovan said, his tone quickly escalating.
Garrett looked up at him, a disgusted look his face. "It's never mattered in the past when I've done it. I don't see why it-"
"You've never been in the damn papers before!" Donovan cut him off.
"The hell I haven't!" Garrett shouted back, throwing his arm back towards the pile of papers on his desk. "I'm in the papers every other week for one thing or another!"
"This time, there's a description of you, you're just damn lucky most of the base hasn't put the evidence together. Or the Duke, for that matter." Donovan said
"My father supports my actions" Garrett Said.
"Only because you've managed to remain anonymous so far. You got sloppy this time." Donovan looked him over. "Just be more careful. Mess in an hour, put some damn pants on." With that Donovan turned and stepped out of the room, the door sliding shut behind him.
"Thanks for the tip, Old man. His penis pills must be late again." Garrett mused to no one in particular as he started to dress himself.

Rylee 12:39am, January 17, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] | Hot damn, I wish I had more dreams like that. Though I feel Garrett's pain, I've been rudely awoken from pleasant dreams rather obnoxiously. So far, really good and very amusing. *snickers at the "late penis pills"* *cough* Thumbs up dude. |
| Chapter Three |
Buzz 2:53am, January 19, 2005 [Edit] [Delete] | The mess hall on the base was a noisy yet surprisingly un-crowded venue. Grey uniformed grunts populated the outer rims, followed by the green suited officers closer to the interior. At the head officers table in the center, half a dozen red uniformed men sat, ate and smoked.
"Argonon is late again" said Intel head Ivan Kracko, a heavy-set man with a perchance for, ironically enough, soy products.
Istwar Shiago, the Troop commander looked up at Ivan from in-between bites of his eggs and sausage. "He's second in command of the base and son of our Duke, I believe it's his prerogative to be late."
"It sets a poor example for the troops, their commander being late." Ivan replied as he shoved a butter soaked soy cake into his mouth.
"What kind of example does weighing a metric ton set when the grunts are all supposed to pass their weekly psychical?" Garrett said, from behind Ivan. He leaned over Ivan's shoulder and poked at the soy with his right index finger. "You know, I think butter and chocolate completely defeat the purpose of eating soy." He looked up at the rest of the group, most hiding grins. "I thought we were going to have an intervention?" he asked, a false look of concern on his face.
"We were waiting for you. I'm so happy you finally decided to grace us with your presence." Donovan replied, looking up from paperwork. "Don't even bother," he said, seeing Garrett about to try and excuse himself. "just sit down and be happy I'm feeling generous today."
Garrett's expression quickly became blank, and he took his usual seat at the end of table. He reached over and poured himself a cup of ganjo from the carafe at that end.
"Since someone wearing one of our mechanic suits took it upon themselves to start executing underlings in Kinhilm's organization, he's made a point of denouncing us as an 'oppressive occupation army' as well as calling for us to 'leave now' because 'the people of the good city of Evianrow will no longer tolerate the Arganian Militia's destructive presence.'" Donovan set down the paper he was reading from and looked the group over. "We need to take action against Kinhilm, this can't continue any longer. Between the convoy attacks and the dissent he's beginning to sow, we may find that we've lost control of the area." he said.
Ivan cleared his throat. "Donovan, you've had my reports for weeks, the man hasn't even made any attempts to cover his tracks. The attacks on the convoys provide us with the perfect opportunity to go after him."
Istwar glared over at Ivan, an irritated expression on his face. "The first attack on a convoy was two weeks ago, and yet you've been unable to produce any definitive evidence that would allow us to move against him. You know very well that despite all we have on him, he's still a local law enforcement problem. Evidently, he must be covering his tracks somehow; or perhaps your intelligence gathering is simply inadequate."
Donovan and Ivan both opened their mouths to speak, but were cut off by Garrett, eyes fixated on his drink. "Ivan is many things. Fat, aggravating and arrogant chief among them." he looked up to his companions, an unusually serious look on his face. "Incompetent isn't one of those things. The intel I've been given by Ivan has saved my ass on more than one occasion. I'm inclined to believe that Kinhilm isn't going to give us an easy way to directly connect him to the attacks." he looked directly at Donovan "You've also had my request for Special Ops to infiltrate Kinhilm's organization and take him out from the inside for about as long as you've had those intel reports." he took a sip of his coffee.
Donovan shook his head. "No, Garrett. We need to operate in view of the law, otherwise we become corrupt."
Garrett started, "Donovan, this is bullsh-"
"The only bullshit at this table is the notion you have in your head that you can circumvent laws, and regulations to do what you believe is right." Donovan cut him off. "When we have the evidence we need, then you can go in and take him out. Not before." His gaze was hard as steel, and quickly softened a little. "You're right, though. We need to take action of some kind. Ivan, I want you to step up your efforts, coordinate with Garrett if you need more men." He took a drink of coffee; the subdued tone of the schedule bell rang out through the auditorium, almost unnoticed through the din of breakfast conversation. "Garrett, I believe you have unfinished business at the firing range?" he asked.
"Yes." he replied, wearing an annoyed expression.
"Finish up what you need to there, and then I want you preparing your team for tonights extraction exercise." Donovan said.
"I-"
"Just go now, we'll speak later." Donovan said, setting his empty coffee cup down on the table; effectively signaling the end of the breakfast meeting.
