[Delete] | Recorded in a crowded senate hall and available to any alien with a simple hyperspace holonet transiver, the Cheif of states podium is decorated with two New Republic flags hanging on opposite sides of the stand. behind the stand are a row of chairs that begins to fill as the cameras cut from whatever channels news desk to the live footage. First to appear on stage is Mon Mothma, who had dissapeared from the spotlight some time ago, drawing a sanding ovation from nearly everyone in the room. as the applauding wears off Supreme Commander Ackbar makes his apperance, moving swifly across the floor looking uncomfortable in his dress uniform, bowing to Mon Mothma and then sitting next to her leaning in to whisper somthing that was lost in the applause and the fact that neither of them was near any microphones or recording devices.
Third across the floor is the Senator of Kashyyyk, and like the other two, a signer of the Decliration of a New Republic, Kerrithrarr. The wookiee was wearing a few peices of native symbolic jelwery but for the most part looked like your average wookiee. he growls somthing to Mon Mothma which again is lost to the camears by the applasue, and shares a hearty handshake with the Supreme Commander.
This is the last of the New Republic represenitves, next comes Two Represenatives of the Federation, both of their names are announced as they cross to their chairs to be followed by a polite applause, the same would follow for the Two represnatives from the Imperial remenants.
Next would be Han Solo, a simple guest and representing no faction at all, his grin and waves to those applauding him was a stark contreast to those who came on before him, as was his reception a mix of applause and some downright cold stares. Luke Skywalker was next, and his was met with a soft applause, most of them didnt seem to know how to acknoledge his presence, though many remembered he was a hero of the rebellion and treated him as such. and he would be the last of the people Leia had invited. the room would fall silent then, waiting untill Leia finally stepped out.
She was dressed in the white gown remeninsent of ANH and her days as a Senator and Diplomat. Her hair is also done up in that familiar bun as she approaches the podium and stops, standing inbetween the two flags. "Even the best layed plans" she begins "can be undone, and my own speech I had prepared requires changing. I wish to start by adressing the situation between our two senators and the publics reaction. What I did was institute an old law, written in during our Decliration of a New Republic, some 15 years ago. It was created in a time of certanty, were untill we were fully established one could easly turn it into another empire. It is a law of a bygon era, and obviously one that shoudl be put to rest."

I will withdrawl my suggestion at at LOA, and instead will ask that the Judicial Council look into possible disiplinary actions for both council members if its seen fit. I will also propose to the senate that we lay this troublesome law to rest so that noone might ever gain use it, and risk another outburst of anger."

We also welcome the King of New Alderaan, first to be crowned since our homeworld was destroyed those 20 years ago, and our Loss of the first New Alderaan after that. It is hoped that this New Alderaan that we have again settled will become the jewel that rivals our old home."

Corruption has been revealed in several former members of the senate, people who planed on embessling money, or were trying to build their own little empires. Even as we speek officials and the Jedi order are seeking out any foul play directed towards the republic. Also we lost ships and very fine crew, around the planet of Tatooine."
"Tatooine has become the center of many peoples focus nowadays, and obviously both sides of the table are calling for us to take action, either in occupying and securing the planet, or simply letting it be.

I wish to take a middle road, we have a fleet out there now, capable of rapid responce to any threat, we have our aid groups, we should offer aid and defence, not occupation, and not nothing. That is why our ships were over Tatooine, thats why we lost brave people over that planet, but for those lives lost, countless more were saved from that madman. and that is what counts, that is what our people signed up to do, and i am sure every one of those people on board our ships would do it again, if it ment innocent civilians were saved from unnessisary pains. My heart greives with those who lost loved ones, but the fight can never end, a complaisent republic is one ripe for a fall, we must continue to watch outside our boarders, to always help those in need, to stop oppression, should it be the hutts or even the imperial remenant, or some local dicatator on his own world."
She let the echo of her voice fall silent. "That is what our defence force is for, that is what they give their lives for, ensuring a chance of freedom for everyone, and anyone who calls for our help will recive it." |
