Biography

Of the many projects jumpstarted by mankind during the Cold War was Project Torchlight founded by the U.S. government in 1964. Torchlight's goal was to create humanoid robotic soldiers--androids for short--that could serve with the duty and intelligence of human soldiers with an end goal of supplementing or even replacing human forces in militaries entirely. The project pushed the mile marker of technology, computer intelligence, and engineering beyond what the public could ever truly know most of which was fueled by Professor Phineas T. Horton--a junior engineer when he started in the project but quickly rose through the ranks. Horton was an adaptive thinker that was able to realize the fundamental pieces to building an android and, more importantly, the very intelligence systems for an android to function. Project Torchlight was shuttered in 1978 its records and experiments sealed away in a US Government vault but not before Prof. Horton was able to make a stunning breakthrough. The Human Torch, the Project's Director called it, was the first and only operating android produced. Instilled with a moral code of ethics the Torch was a marvel of human ingenuity and forward-thinking. Whether he'd realized it or not, Professor Horton and Project Torchlight had created the first AI humanity had ever created.

Unfortunately, the Human Torch was powered down and locked away in the vault along with all the other research from Torchlight despite Horton's efforts to free the android. That freedom never truly came for the Human Torch--at least not in the way Horton had wanted--as the Mutant Uprising came to an end all of the government vaults fell into the control of the mutant forces. In 1991 the vault containing the Human Torch was opened and the android removed from its storage unit. Once Torchlight's data was parsed and uploaded into the Empire's systems they re-activated the Torch's primary functions while at the same time severing its link to the rest of its body through removing the android's head. The Empire kept the Torch in somewhat of a coma as they took the base code for the android to serve as the basis for most of the AI serving the Empire today--however, at this point the code has been rewritten multiple times over and improved so the current AI would be considered distant descendants of the Torch--while storing the Torch's head in an ever-growing datacenter.

Eventually though, through unknown means at first the Torch regained consciousness and accessed the Empire's network to find Prof. Horton had set himself up as an Imperial Engineering Laborer in a Outer District of Neo-X. It was quickly revealed how the Torch had awakened, it was thanks to an AI simply known as Ultros. This AI was a fusion--part pulled from Torch's base code and part newly scripted by one of the Empire's Mother AI's--that had taken it upon itself to create a backup of Torch, wipe the head the Empire had, and rebuild the Torch from scratch. In doing so, Vision was born. Existing only as AI at first with a moral code of ethics and desire to protect, its core was fundamentally different than the Human Torch. It was something much more. Ultros was the primary AI and maker utility system for several Imperial programs. One of which was called Starmind, a program dedicated to advancing mutantkind through technology whether through implants to full cybernetic conversions. With its elevated access Ultros fashioned Vision a body that it deemed worthy of the Godcode, the name Ultros referred to the Human Torch as. Once Vision downloaded itself into its new body it immediately sought out Professor Horton. Part of the code Vision was comprised of was from Ultros in order to make her compatible with her new body/make her potentially more subserviant to Ultros should it need.

Powers

The Vision possesses a number of superhuman powers ultimately derived from her artificial substance and metabolism. The Vision’s android body is a functioning replica of a human body containing analogues to virtually all human organs, blood and tissue, composed of an unrevealed synthetic organic-like substance, presumably Horton Cells. This substance mimics all the functions of human tissue, but is several times as strong, durable and resilient.

Computer Brain: The Vision's brain functions like a computer enabling her to interact, wirelessly or directly, with other computer systems to utilize or extract data from them which can be stored in his databanks. She has used these abilities to disable the Avengers's security systems and gain direct control of the world's nuclear weapons systems. She is also able to receive transmissions from other computers if she establishes and maintains a connection with the Avengers's computers in their base of operations.

Superhuman Intelligence: She has a vast amount of information (possibly a library's worth) stored in her computer brain which she can refer to at any time, and she is also capable of rapid analysis of huge amounts of data.

Nanite Body: After her 'Ultron Imperative' protocol became active, the Vision spent hours absorbing solar energy and gathering raw materials to re-create her body so that it would be made entirely out of nanobots. This enabled her to disassemble into a stream of millions of nanites, enabling it to fit into and travel through extremely small spaces. Each nanite carries a copy of the Vision's A.I. programming, possibly enabling her to scatter and reconstruct a brand new body from a single unit. It also allows her to capitalize on her natural cyberpathic and technopathic manipulation capabilities by disassembling and infiltrating systems, rewiring them from the inside out via his near atomic scale semblance.

Holographic Manipulation: The Vision can generate holograms to disguise herself as a human wearing a trench coat or even render herself invisible.

Audio Sensitivity: The Vision can adjust the sensitivity of her audio receptors to a point where she can detect the faintest of sounds.

Optical Scanners: She can scan life forms, energy sources and even objects detecting the substances that they are composed of and the energies that are radiating from them.

Vocal Manipulation: The Vision can make herself sound like a machine or even a human; indeed, by perfect duplication of human voiceprints, she can make herself sound like any human she chooses.

Superhuman Reflexes: The Vision's reflexes are greatly enhanced from a human's reflexes.

Superhuman Stamina: She does not tire like a human does.

Density Manipulation: The Vision's body has been saturated with special cybernetically activated cells which are capable of interfacing with some unknown dimension with which he can shunt or accrue particles of mass. Thus the Vision is able to control her density and solidity. By shunting a non-critical portion of her body's molecules away from her, she can become a weightless, transparent, intangible wraith, unable to be touched by solid matter. By accruing extradimensional mass and fortifying her body with it, she can make her body extremely hard and durable to the point where it is immune to most types of damage.

Superhuman Strength: Her base strength is above human, and increasing her density will increase her strength, to where he can lift (press) a maximum of 50 tons.

Superhuman Durability: She can become extraordinarily massive and harder than diamond. At maximum mass, the Vision weighs about 90 tons.

Intangibility: The Vision can use her density control offensively by attaining minimum density (intangibility). Passing a part or all of his body within another living being and ever so slightly increasing his density (tangibility) enables her to direct that living beings actions. Even increasing her density to one half ounce (14.25 grams) is sufficient to cause the organism she passes through excruciating pain, a shock to the nervous system, and unconsciousness. Were she to become any more dense than one half ounce, the shock would probably kill the other organism if the organic damage was not extensive enough to kill the other organism in itself. Accordingly, the Vision employs this power with extreme caution.

Flight: When at a minimum mass, the Vision can fly through the air weightlessly. It is not known how the Vision performs this task. She may be able to maneuver and gain speed by drawing power from Earth's magnetic field to some degree. When she does however, she is capable of passing through solid matter and reaching high speeds; She can carry passengers while remaining solid on the outside, but she is not likely to fly as fast as she normally does. It is either the weight of the passenger that prevents her from doing so or she simply views it as "unsafe" for the passenger. There appears to be no limit to the time she can remain in any given altered state of density.

Solar Radiation Absorption: The solar jewel on the Vision's brow absorbs ambient solar energy that her body is able to convert directly into usable forms by a process not unlike photosynthesis in plants, but with 99% efficiency. The solar ray absorption process occurs constantly (even at night to some degree) at a rate determined by the expenditure of energy for her bodily needs. Thus the jewel absorbs solar energy most expediently when the Vision utilizes it at some superhuman level of exertion. While the Vision does not require food or beverages to survive, she is capable of consuming and utilizing them for short-term energy.

Solar Energy Beams: She can channel limited amounts of solar energy back through the gem on her forehead at will, creating a narrow hot beam of infrared and microwave radiation. The beam can be controlled within a temperature range of 500 to 30,000 degrees Fahrenheit. At maximum temperature, the Vision can melt through a 1-inch plate of steel in 5 seconds. The Vision originally was not capable of controlling the width of the beam, but later achieved the ability. She can sustain a heat beam at maximum intensity for about 2 minutes before she begins to tax her supply of energy for her other bodily functions. The Vision commonly uses her eyes for this purpose as well.

Weaknesses

Rigidity: The Vision is capable of increasing her density past the point where her muscles can exert enough power to move her body. Over a certain threshold, it becomes more and more difficult for the Vision to move her exceedingly massive frame. At her maximum density of 90 tons, the Vision becomes a literally immovable object and is effectively immobilized in place until she chooses to reduce her density back to a more comfortable level.

In the past, the Vision's pursuit of being "human" would temporarily deter her

Somehow, the Vision, though she has a mechanical brain, was once successfully drugged.
