HISTORY
Daniel Herschz was as normal as any other kid, until he discovered he was a mutant. Daniel was at a school party in middle school, eighth grade, when he and his friends became under attack from older, tougher kids. Dan was pushed around and teased...until he couldn't take it anymore. Dan's rage got the better of him and he tapped into his mutant powers. All of the lights in the school gym brightened incredibly then exploded. Daniel beat his bullies to a bloody pulp before anyone could intercede. His parents kicked him out of the house when he was twelve, not wanting anything to do with "his kind"...and since then, Dan has lived on the streets.
Dan did, however, continue going to school. He finished high school, amazingly, but after that he hasn't looked into any more schooling. Daniel survived on the harsh streets of New York however he could: stealing, begging, digging through trash and even prostitution. He's been through some terrible horrors which he has no want to remember. Dan finally became employed...however seedy the employer. Raul Rodriguez, underlord of the streets in the Bronx area of Manhattan, hired Daniel to be a pickpocket and do other odd- goon-like jobs. The pay was bad and the care was horrible. Dan began skimming off of Raul's profits. For a while, he got away with it. But then Raul caught on and sent his two largest, deadliest grunts after Daniel.
Daniel ran, taking all of his possessions, which are contained in one, tatty backpack. Dan ran to hide...but Raul's best caught up with him. Mercilessly, they attacked Daniel, beating him severely and leaving him for dead in the middle of a courtyard. With a fractured arm and broken nose and a huge gash on his head, blood covering his face, Dan hobbled into the street, and was found by The Flash and a woman...who seemed to know who Raul Rodriguez was as well. Dan was taken to the hospital, where he recovered.

Daniel Herschz has the strange ability to control the atomic particles within light molecules which allows him to control, in essence, light itself. He can make the air anywhere super-bright or pitch dark. He can either use the existing atomic particles in the air, naturally occurring, any artificially-made light particles (light bulbs or the like) or he can create them himself. He can focus the light particles, widen them, narrow them, shape them in any way. So, if he wanted, Dan could create a "glove of light" by gathering or creating light particles around his hand and increase the intensity, creating a very bright hand.
He has the ability to excite the electrons in the atoms in the air, which then releases light, or photons. Dan has learned, over time, to force the electrons to have stimulated emissions and matching the wavelengths and creating what’s referred to as “pure” light. When he has the particles all at the same wavelength, and he moves them through the air at the exact same speed, he creates a laser beam. Dan's lasers aren't powerful yet, probably just enough to burn through lightweight- to-medium materials, but hopefully he'll learn to make them much stronger as he grows.
Dan’s mutation includes a film over the cornea of his own eyes, which protects the innards of his eyes from any damage from any kind of light or radiation, naturally occurring or artificial. Daniel could look directly into the sun and not be harmed. This allows Dan to use his powers and not be affected by how bright he makes the air. Though the film also filters through the darkness he creates as well, as he robs the photons from the air, which allows him to see through his darkness too.
