A highly trained and sophisticated dark side Marauder in the Outer Rim territory, Thulek Var is a weapon as deadly as the blade of his lightsaber. Not much is known about his youth, other than he was born on the planet of Talus in the Corellian system. He lived in the Dearic spaceport with his family until he was taken one fateful night and moved off world by his father, Sorin Var, shortly after his parents separated. Sorin was previously a con artist before turning to the profession of bounty hunting during the end of the Clone Wars, having trained with an associate to hone his skills. He wasn’t the most successful bounty hunter of the time period, but he managed to capture a handful of priority targets for the Hutt crime syndicate on Tatooine and Nal Hutta.
During one occasion, Sorin tracked a female Jedi Knight on a backwater planet and located her just beyond the outskirts of a spaceport. A fight ensued between them, resulting in the Jedi being caught in an explosion and injured by shrapnel from one of Sorin’s fragmentation grenades. She was forced to retreat without her lightsaber. Sorin quickly retrieved the Jedi weapon to keep as a trophy and returned to his ship.
When Thulek was old enough, his father trained him to be a marksman. He was made familiar with the maintenance and operation of various blaster pistols, carbines and rifles. It was apparent that Thulek had a natural talent at a young age, due to his unknown Force potential, but he was also intrigued with art and galactic history, specifically the recent civil war known as the Clone Wars. Having collected data modules and holobooks detailing the two subjects, he absorbed any piece of information that he could find. The lightsaber contained in a trophy case onboard his father’s ship only served to further his interest in the Clone Wars.
Under the tutelage of different instructors over the course of the next few years, including his father, Thulek also became proficient in the use of various melee weapons, such as vibroblades. Another conflict was looming over the galaxy with the growing influence of the Rebel Alliance, but Thulek decided not to become involved until the time was right. He would continue training until he was able to overshadow his father in many aspects of bounty hunting. It was at that moment he decided to pursue a solo career.
There was an obstacle in his path that needed to be taken care of before he could advance toward his goal. Thulek plotted to kill his own father during one of their missions, so he could prove himself capable of becoming greater than the con artist turned bounty hunter. After ruthlessly betraying and murdering Sorin, he captured their acquisition and collected the bounty for himself. Thulek immediately took possession of his father’s ship, weapons and personal items, returning to Talus to continue with his training. Never regretting his decision, Thulek strove to become an effective and ruthless, yet civilized mercenary throughout the Outer Rim.
Thulek spent time and effort scavenging worlds that were battlegrounds during the Clone Wars, searching for any remaining trace of the Jedi. The mercenary also gained an unprecedented reputation in the galaxy by successfully eliminating rival factions, accomplishing high profile missions and eventually drawing the attention of the Galactic Empire. He next sold his father’s ship, purchased a SoroSuub personal luxury yacht 3000 and heavily modified it to be an effective mercenary ship, with features including twin military grade shield generators, four prisoner holding cells, improved twin laser cannons and two concussion missile launchers, before he disappeared into the Unknown Regions of the galaxy...
During his travel in the Unknown Regions, Thulek discovered a lost band of dark Jedi and began his formal training in the ways of the Force. Little is known about his time with the dark Jedi, but he learned to utilize the dark side of the Force and became a dark side Marauder, surpassing the skills of even his Master. When his Master became of no further use to him, Thulek killed the aging dark side user, just as he had murdered his own father years before. He also took the alias of Luridus to forge his own path in the galaxy, separate of his younger brothers, Xanatos and Lucian.
When Thulek returned to known space, he first made his way back to Coruscant and assumed control of his mother’s company, Marr Industries. Thulek also established himself as a humanitarian under the charade of the Galactic Foundation Center. The Foundation Center was an elaborate ploy to recruit terrorists and others disillusioned with the government of the New Republic, in order to bring it down from within. It was during this particular time that Thulek met with the leaders of the Quarren exiles on Dac and established the terrorist organization, known as the V-Initiative (Victory Initiative or Var Initiative.) In addition to the funding received through the Galactic Foundation Center, the Quarren exiles procured substantial amounts of credits from the Imperial remnant.
With the Quarren exiles operating the V-Initiative under his direction, he concentrated on building his empire through Marr Industries on Coruscant and Eriadu, in conjunction with the Foundation Center and other business opportunities that he couldn’t pass up. As Luridus, Thulek was able to keep his family heritage secret from even his most trusted allies. He was even able to create an altered clone of himself that became known as Luridus, so he could focus on his other pursuits.
Thulek also gained a reputation as a womanizer, courting many women across the galaxy since returning from the Unknown Regions, but only having one child. Syal Lyn Var, his daughter, remained on Eriadu in the Outer Rim with her mother until she was old enough to learn the dark side of the Force directly from him. She was trained as a dark Jedi and frequently traveled with Thulek during his business ventures, to learn about his company’s subsidiaries.
Project Origin
Project Origin was conceived by Thulek Var and developed by him, along with the Kaminoan scientists, Tomen Va and Xi in the laboratories of Marr Industries on Vallera. Having been funded in secret by Marr Industries for an undisclosed sum of credits, the project was designed to create the perfect cloned and genetically modified assassins, capable of eliminating the Jedi from the galaxy after the Ascension had risen to power. The project was later abandoned, in favor of reforming the terrorist organization known as the V-Initiative.
Two standard years before the conception of the project, Thulek Var met a prominent member of the Hapan Royal House and representative of the Royal Court on Hapes by the name of Anastasia Juno Malvoire or Ana. Thulek began a torrid love affair with the Force sensitive woman and attempted to corrupt her to the dark side of the Force, in order to influence the future of Hapan politics and gain a valuable ally in his war against the Jedi Order. During one of their many encounters, Thulek inadvertently killed Ana by Force choking her. Her body was kept preserved and transported to Vallera in Hutt space, while he covered up the incident.
Upon returning to Vallera, Thulek contacted the master Kaminoan cloner, Tomen Va and negotiated a contract for him to be the chief scientist at Marr Industries. Tomen Va brought another Kaminoan cloner with him known as Xi and they began developing radical new cloning techniques within the span of the two year period. Thulek became fascinated by the idea of resurrecting Ana, so he instructed Tomen Va to begin experiments in gene splicing that would result in the creation of Project Origin.
The project officially started with XD-1100, which was a standard clone of Anastasia, but Thulek wasn’t satisfied with the results. He persuaded Tomen Va to begin genetically modifying the clones, regardless of any risks involved. He wanted to achieve the height of perfection, believing Ana to be physically attractive, but possessing several distinguishable flaws, such as poor Hapan night vision. The Kaminoans worked tirelessly with Marr Industries scientists and close supervision by Thulek to perfect their techniques. They managed to create a viable clone that had been genetically modified and enhanced by gene splicing, including Falleen and Umbaran DNA, combined with Ana’s Hapan DNA.
XD-1135, otherwise known by the designation Alpha became the first successful genetically modified clone, but it was soon discovered that she had learning disabilities and was terminated by Thulek. Due to the rushed process of gene splicing, Alpha’s brain rapidly deteriorated and she reverted to an innocent child-like state, incapable of advanced learning. XD-1136 or Bravo didn’t suffer from the same defect, but the clone succumbed to insanity when Thulek began her grueling training regime. XD-1137, otherwise known as Charlie also failed to impress Thulek and he almost cancelled the project in its entirety.
It wasn’t until XD-1138 was removed from stasis and began the intense torture and training sessions her sisters had failed, that Thulek realized her potential. Delta had become the first successful clone to surpass Thulek’s expectations. By this time, the Jedi had scattered across the far reaches of the galaxy, leaving Thulek with a small army of clones. He decided to abandon Project Origin and focus on reforming the V-Initiative to strike at the Republic Alliance, while testing Delta by giving her the opportunity to prove herself as the CEO of Marr Industries.
Each of the Project Origin clones is designed to be superior in every way to a standard human or Hapan, possessing enhanced strength, endurance, speed and agility. It has been ingrained on them to remain fiercely loyal to Thulek, even if they have been interrogated and tortured; they would rather die than betray their Master. Along with their conditioning, they capable of accelerated healing, preventing them from succumbing to wounds that would otherwise kill a regular human. In addition to their already impressive list of traits, each clone is able to emit potent pheromones, due to their Falleen DNA.
