Diablo's history is a long and tragic story filled with sorrow, suffering and fighting. Always fighting. Kidnapped at the tender age of 7 years old, Diablo was conscripted into a secret military program called Project: PATRIOT, designed to craft a squadron of the most tactically capable soldiers ever seen in the face of battle. The pinnacle of this would be 4 "Energyst Enhanciles," taking all aspects of specialized military training them and housing it all in a team of scientifically altered men and women. For years, he underwent rigorous training in an effort to prepare him for what his superior officers called his destiny: the Energyst Injection which would forever alter him from Solder, to Super Soldier. The path towards ascension was anything but easy though. Along the way, he was killed several times, the first of which was water-boarding torture at just 3 months into the program. His fellow trainees, a batch of 32 other children ranging from 6 to 9 years old, began to notice changes in him after just that one time. His temperament became steadily worse, his determination to fight the established order growing stronger but one can only fight for so long before becoming exhausted. His repeated acts of rebellion, strength and the way he instilled the other trainees with a sense of fear earned him the nickname Diablo. Even a majority of the military staff were apprehensive about approaching him due largely in part to the aura of evil and hatred he was eminating. When his rebellion was finally broken, he and 3 other of the best candidates were given the Energyst Injection upon reaching physical maturity. This process would exponentially amplify their ability to take in, process and retain information, their physical strength and agility by increasing muscle thread count, their mental chronometry (reaction time) by vastly increasing brain activity and instill the body with a theoretical energy type which was supposed to vastly increase healing. Most of these applications were 100% successful; The Enhanciles all performed to expectation after the injection however the theoretical energy, dubbed "Chaos," was just that. Chaotic. The Enhanciles were all granted a heightened healing factor which in turn brought about a drastic increase in life expectancy but it also brought about equally unpredicted results. Within 2 of the trainees, the ability to instill this Chaos energy into the elements around them became prevalent and research began into applications of this new ability. Within the other two Enchanciles, their physical abilities such as speed, strength and agility, were heightened even further than predicted. What was supposed to give them the speed and strength of 3 olympic class weight lifters instead gave them the strength of 6. With this development, pleasing the board of directors and the military staff beyond measure, these Soldiers were put into use immediately following their training. Sadly, the passage of time was anything but smooth. Like all great things, even Project: PATRIOT fell by the wayside and the entire program was left to the most covert history books. For all intents and purposes, all 33 trainees no longer existed which meant that the Enhanciles would be free to start brand new lives anywhere they wanted, with any identity they wished to have. While 29 of them would die of old age, various diseases and personal issues, their tales of valor would live on to be told by the 4 remaining, seemingly ageless Enhanciles.. With the end of time being the only foreseeable end to his life, Diablo set out to work as a mercenary/bounty hunter for a few years before receiving disturbing news of the corruption of one of his fellow Soldiers. Rather than let a great military mind go to waste, Diablo hunted down and slew his friend and fellow Soldier, laying him to rest with the others in their former squadron. While Diablo saw this as a merciful act, the other Enhanciles, including his ex wife, saw this as an outright act of barbarism and vowed revenge. A life for a life. For decades, Diablo was stalked under the threat of death, preventing him from settling in an area for an extended length of time. He became exceedingly efficient at creative false positives for his pursuers though and made ample use of this tactic in order to increase his downtime. It was good for a time until on his 125th birthday, he was visited at his home by those who sought to do him in. It was an enormous battle, causing the destruction of an entire mountain's summit but in the end it was Diablo who was triumphant, striking down the best friends he ever had with tear stained eyes and a heart full of anguish. It was the end of an era for him in more than one way: he was now the only living Soldier left, unmatched and uncontested. Fresh from one of the most trying times in his life, he came across an old crush, Shironeko, and attempted to ignite a new relationship to help pry her away from her own horrifying memories and give him a purpose in life. While it was good for a time, Neko broke down and proclaimed that, while it was indeed good, Diablo had caught her at a vulnerable point in her life and the two parted ways. Mixed with the misery of losing his friends and now his deepest crush, Diablo spiraled into madness and disappeared for a time, inundated with an affliction he called Psychosis. The effects of this affliction instilled so much adrenaline into the affected that their heart would literally beat itself to death via the Fight of Flight response. The strong minded that were able to fight the response would be able to resist the effects of Psychosis, but only for a given length of time. It seemed like Diablo would be out of the picture for a good, long while had it not been for the timely arrival of an unexpected soul. As it turns out, the Goddess Amaterasu proved highly resistant to the Psychosis and was able to pull Diablo's mind from the brink of self destruction long enough for him to regain his composure. With a renewed sense of self, he set off to find a new purpose in life. Discovering a new land to the far west, he figured he'd investigate while on a personal quest to unearth long lost swords of uncommon quality. Coming to Xenshi proved an enormous boon to his mental faculties, discovering that not only was it a matriarchal society filled with gorgeous women but it was also a place he could call home. A place of peace and zen. It was settled almost immediately: he would settle here to forge himself a new life and shape a new era for himself and those around him. Employed as a "simple" guardsman under the command of General Yan Huiqing and swearing unending fealty to Empress Ong Xifeng, Diablo lives peacefully, content with his new life, the friends he's made and the reputation he's slowly been establishing. | ||
