Peanut 4:49pm, March 14, 2010 [Edit] [Delete] | Parshta: Parshta the Brilliant, God of Light, Truth-Bringer, Parshta-faran, Father-God. [This is a NPC character until otherwise noted.]
Grimslaine: Grimslaine the Shadow, Goddess of Night, Question-Bringer, Grimslaine-maran, Mother-God. [This is a NPC character until otherwise noted.]
Bright Guard: The warriors found worthy by a high-priest of Parshta and the Master of War trained in the sacred Dance of Light to serve under each city's Champion for the protection of the people of the Republics. Usually chosen from amidst the City Guard, though this is not exclusively so. The Bright Guard are almost exclusively male.
City Guard: Warriors dedicated to the protection of their home-city, employed by the people of that city and who take orders only from the Guardian Council.
Elders: The high Priest of Parshta and high Priestess of Grimslaine of any given city temple, the only representatives in the Guardian Council not chosen by the people through a vote. [These two are NPC characters until otherwise noted.]
Guardian Council: The law-creating and judicial body of any city-state, voted in yearly by the people of the city to represent all factions of life within the city.
Guardian House: Where the elected Council does their business.
Champion: The single-most loved and righteous Warrior of Parshta, who has proven his worth to the people of his city, the Priest of Parshta, and the Faran Himself through sacred physical Trial, and through mental Trial sanctioned by the Maran Herself. [This is a NPC character until otherwise noted.]
Champion Forge: The blessed Forge of Grimslaine, where the art of crafting the Maran's great weapons is preserved and practiced. Four apprentices and one Master operate each Champion Forge.
Master Forger: The one smithy trained from childhood to craft the Champion's weapons. These men are admirable warriors in their own right and they along with their apprentices are charged with protecting Grismlaine's shadowy secrets, whom even her priestesses are kept ignorant of. [This is a NPC character until otherwise noted.]
Apprentice Forger: One of the four apprentices chosen at age 3 to assist the Master Forger at the Champion's Forge. Only one of the four will ever become the Master, chosen in sacred and secretive trial upon their 23rd year.
Master of War: A retired city-champion who is charged with helping to chose his replacement and train him in the Dance of Light, and who is also responsible for schooling the Bright Guard in this same technique. [This is a NPC character until otherwise noted.]
Hall of Light: Where the Bright Guard is trained and housed, also the dwelling for the current Master at War and city Champion.
Teachers: Scholars of all walks and makes of life, who have dedicated themselves to documenting and passing on all knowledge of all cities, the Gods, the world, and anything else that seems interesting enough to write about. Many of these Teachers choose to establish schools in their home cities at the onset of old age, and are the second-most traveled people of the Republics.
Teachers Halls: Where one goes to learn. All children are required to attend their local Teacher's Hall from age three to age ten, whence they may choose to attend a specific Teacher's Hall that addresses the study of one subject, may choose to become Teachers themselves, or attend the Crafter's Halls that pertain to their chosen trade.
Game Circles: Where mock-battles, gladiatorial fights, and other sporting events are held.
Healers: Little is known of the origins of healers or where their dominion over life stems from. Though there are very few of them, and they pose little threat, they are held in hand with suspicion, as their abilities are akin to the magics the half-gods once wielded. Though invaluable in certain circumstances, Healers are often overlooked in favor of midwives and common doctors. Each city has at least one Healer's Ward, and the Healers who live within charge themselves with obliterating the rumors surrounding them and to promote knowledge of the body. Many a fine doctor has been made at the hands of Healers.
Healer's Ward: Where the curiously-gifted Healers live, and train others of their kind hand in hand with mundane doctors.
Crafter's Halls: Where one goes to learn the specific details of and be trained in a trade of their choice.
Halfing War: The War between humankind and the half-god offspring of Parshta and Grimslaine.
Parent-Gods: Parshta and Grimslaine.
Half-gods: The children of Parshta and Grimslaine borne of humans; later destroyed. None exist.
Traders: Not to be confused with the common merchant, these hefty, harty fellows are the brave men who establish caravans and battle through the unrelenting wilderness and harsh territories between city-states to preserve trade, culture, and language. These are the best traveled people of the Republics, and are most commonly retired City Guardsman, hunters, trappers, or madmen.
Dakkarta: One of the five city-states, located in an arid desert in the heart of the world, a pearly, sand-laden oasis in an otherwise harsh land. See the "Setting," thread for more information. Rich in diamonds, gold, and limestone.
New Grimvald: The northern city-state, often snowbound and the most isolated of the city-states. Named in honor of Grimslaine. Rich in song, steel, and ice.
Parshtania: The eastern city-state, clad in shimmering heat and lush blue waters, and dense tropical greenland. Rich in fish, sea-trade, and exotic spices.
Fjornmarsh: The southern city-state, calm and tepid, full of rolling flatland robust in livestock, wheats of a hundred dozen varieties, and whose people are covered in blue tattoos. Rich in wheats, meats, and barbarism.
Godcrest: The western city-state, mountainous and coastal-bound, experiencing regular extremes of weather that the locals laugh about and outsiders groan over. Rich in all things, said to have been the place that Parshta and Grimslaine first stood on their created earth, and particularly bountiful.
