There´s no way I can start this or even say without offending someone so please bare with me. This requires opinions.

It´s come to me that over the days and this deal with Iraq and terrorism that alot of chatters have become extremely aggitated. So I have to ask two questions I think should be brought to light. When did a role playing chat become the debating grounds for IRL political affairs? And When did it become an act of free speach to both question and damn a person for giving a reaction of another? It burns me when I see anyone, including myself essentially damn a person who expresses their opinion and act like its words from Satan himself. Can somebody please tell me when it became alright to damn people and cry freedom of speech? That´s my five cents.

Most importantly about any chat, is that anyone and everyone should have the chance to comment and speak. Reguardless of how damning or forgiving their comments may be. So please, lets try and start some kind of path to settle this once and for all. I´d hate to see the actions of a few men or women destroy a chat because they can not agree upon what is appropriate or not appropriate to say... Even if they´re trying to claim the right to speak.

(This by no means condones ors morally compensates the actions commited by terrorists, so don´t go there. This thread is ment to deal with the posts and actions we all comment in the Cantina and any other chat we as a group go to. Jek´s right, it´s men and women like us who breed hatred and violence, through how we speak and act. All points are valid here, if the admin will allow, even stupid posts that would generally hold absolutely no meaning. Like saying a banana is equvilant of a massacure.)
"Well, this banana here, you see this? It´s yellow...and you know what else is yellow? A bus. And you what are in buses? People...and people can be terrorists!"

Scott´s right. Never was alright, but anger blurs the lines of right and wrong, for that I apologize Jek. From now on though, whether it be considered censorship or not, these debates go to the off topic board.

It´s human nature to say one thing, and mean or do a completely different thing. People say that they support free speech and then damn another person for their beliefs. I myself am guilty of this, as is every other person in this chat, I belive. Not neccessarily against someone in this chat, but perhaps a political activist, or someone you know from your personal experiece. It´s part of being human.

It seems that people in this chat, and elsewhere as well, are quick to respond with a counterpoint without thinking much about what they´re opposing. Some simple statement such as "My God, we get to sit under our desks and eat cottage cheese" can set off a whole debate and flame war in a matter of seconds. Come on people, think-damnit! Don´t let the predijust (Whoo!! Spelling Fuck up!) that is inherent in your mind get the best of you!

Being human isn´t so bad, as a species, we don´t deserve to live-as a group, maybe. The group of people we have gathered, for the intent of free form role playing, is a pretty good one, if compared to other groups of any kind. We have representation from a wide demogrpahic, and the majority of us don´t mind representing their views, which cover a decent spread-regardless of how others will view them.

This is a gathering place for people who also happen to be politically aware, if not actively supportive of a particular view. It´s natural for us to want to discuss events that currently affect us, or will in the future. This chat room serves as a focal point where the greatest numbers of individuals gather on a regular basis, as opposed to an Instant messaging client, where not everyone in the chat may have the same one. There´s nothing wrong with this, in moderation. It becomes excessive, and needs to be removed, when an event that is as small as say the recent Massacre at a temple (hindu, was it?) Escalates into a full blown argumant about semantics and political stances, completely stagnating the flow of Role playing for possibly hours. (I´m not trying to belittle the Massacre of those innocents by calling it a small event, I´m merely putting it in perspective as to say, the nuclear obliteration of a major city. I don´t belive the human species deserves to live as a whole, but I do not condone Killing). It is at this point that such a discussion needs to be taken to a seperate place.

Free speech is a good idea, but will never be executed in it´s entirely. As long as people have conflicting views, they will oppress opposing views, and the people who hold them. If everyone agrees the whole time, thats not freedom of speech-thats comformity, and stagnation. You call for people to stop their damning of people and their ideals-I say that people don´t change that easily, and it´s a damned shame, but I don´t think that it´s going to happen any time soon in here.

Jek *is* right, it´s men a women like us who breed hatred and violence through how we speak and act. I´d like to think that I haven´t contributed to such an appalling thing, but I have-we all have at one point or another. All I can hope for is that you all prove me wrong and make me look like a damned fool (at least, more than I´ve done so to myself already). I can only pray this made sense to you, and that you assimilate it´s full meaning, written and implied before you make any counterpoints.

We all remember Celt. We all remember how he pushed all his ideas and views on us in the middle of an RP and we all got off track.
If we had a board back then that was connected to the chat, I think he might have used that to debate, reguardless of his views.
Having two boards is kind of rediculous, since the only thing the other board´s used for is arguments between to pissed off people and others who say they´re going away for awhile. But if you feel that this will help in some way, go for it.
As for the question of how this came up in the chatroom, a place where I know I´ve said in the past that it is only for roleplaying, is because of the severity of it. In my opinion, everyone´s lives could be on the line because of the acts of the select few. Things that we act out here as fiction here could become reality. Although it´s fun to act out and be the hero, in reality, we´d all just be one of the poor NPC´s that bites it after the first massive attack. That´s why I feel this has gotten so big.

Jek, it´s so you don´t have to sort through a million posts to obtain information important to RP (yes, I plan on cleaning it out sooner or later...)

No, nonono, Jek! See, I´d be one of the faceless NPC´s who´d Run the hell away.

Seriously though, back in the day I was big on the MB separation, so I say we do this. We´ve been lax, if we´d just copy and paste what someone says here, if it´s an OOC post, onto the OOC board, then everybody will be happy.
