End of Year addres 24 ABY

As with the usual end of year address it starts with the New Republic seal spinning slowly on a black ground, when it fades in though, its not in the usual senate chambers, but the office of Chief of State Elayne Kavos. "Sentient beings of the Republic and in the galaxy who may be watching this, I apologize for the last minute haste and lack of preparation for this speech. The last month has been a trying and devastating time and I have myself stretched thin working hard to keep myself informed and help the government to keep running and making its decisions. The... shocking loss of.. one of our own has hit me hard, as has the immanent retirement of our best Admiral and our only Supreme Commander to exist so far. But Supreme Commander Ackbar has earned his retirement, and with the fighting he went through its most likely a miracle that he survived to see it. As a tiny gesture of our appreciation the senate has allowed the creation of a new award, the Star of Dac. To be presented to a Soldier who has proven great loyalty and sacrifice, Ackbar has given his life away from a homeworld he yearns to return to in order to see it and the galaxy safe. finally he may return to his oceans and I hope his retirement is everything he desires." "We continue to struggle with a weak economy on the outer rim, though the Republic as a whole continues to see increasing industry and production,much of the outer rim has slowed, some has even reversed and started shrinking. I assure everyone that we are working to find ways to bring work and industry back to our rim worlds, some of our most important planets. With the Imperial attack on the Remnant the Defense Force has gone into high alert, many are being recalled from leave and exercises staged to prepare ourselves for a potential conflict along the border. Worse is the possibility of a new threat through the route of ages, though details are still vague and I do not wish to insight panic, but we must remain strong and ready to do what we must to ensure our survival. I wish I could say 25 years after the Battle of Yavin will be a peaceful and joyous time, but all I see right now is another test to our endurance. be strong people of the New Republic, we will prevail if we hold to our ideals and fight for our freedoms."
