"War for the Route" ends--Tatooine freed from Peacekeeper occupation

The Peacekeeper Armada, hired nearly two years ago by Skrellnik the Hutt of the Grotta Clan, was defeated yesterday in a decisive battle at the Tatoo System. A fleet, lead by the Kukai Foundation, fended off the Peacekeepers with the help of the United Federation of Planets, the United Federation of Systems, the Outer Rim Republic and the New Republic, all of which came together in mutual defense of the Route of Ages and successfully broke the Peacekeeper blockade on the astral anomally.

At the same time, the Black Knights and the ORR joined together in a stunning assault on the city of Anchorhead, which served as the stronghold for Skrellnik and the Peacekeepers. After the Peacekeeper forces were defeated and faced with some type of proof which violated the Hutt claim to the sector, Skrellnik surrendered his forces.

Shortly thereafter, a brutal race known as the Scarrans appeared through the Route of Ages and claimed the sector for themselves. The so-called "Olympus Fleet" quickly joined ranks with the Peacekeepers and fended off the Scarran Empire's fleet, though the ORR city of Neumann did suffer from heavy orbital bombardment. Thankfully, a giant metal meter made was able to somehow deflect the Scarran attack.

As the night grew on and the battle became more pitched, the Route of Ages itself transformed into a vicious kind of "wormhole weapon" similar to the one that was deployed by the Peacekeepers last week against the Federation system of Mokar. The Peacekeeper COmmand Carrier Terriax was destroyed when it detonated it's power core in a successful attempt to disperse the event horizon and reform the Route. Scientists are already working on studying the 'new' Route of Ages, and experts seem to indicate, for the moment, no long-term changes in the cosmology of the Tatoo system, despite the appearance of what is, for all intents and purposes, a third star.

With what historians are already referring to the year-long "War for the Route," our spotlight turns to the people affected the most by the recent attacks--the poor farmers of Tatooine, those who've lived outside of the major settlements for most of their lives. While many of them joined the Black Knights or the Farmer's Militia during the war, and are only now returning to their homes, the vast majority of them stayed either at their private settlements, or, moved to the cities. When forced out by the Peacekeeper mandate or quartered bounty hunters, a common occurance under the rule of Skrellnik the Hutt, many of the now destitute "Tatooinians" turned to smuggling or other seedy businesses, or else joined with the resistance forces. After gaining their freedom, the vast majority of them are just now returning home.

Of course, no war is without it's casualties. Chief among them today is The Ghost, the mysterious masked "miracle-maker" who spurred much of the rebellion and former leader of the Black Knights. During the victory celebration in Anchorhead--where he announced he would be stepping down as a poltical leader, and that the Black Knights would intigrate into a larger "Tatooine Defense Network" made up of a number of growing factions across the desert world--he was shot to death by a gunman, who dissapeared into the sea of the crowd. Eyewitnesses report that his body faded into thin air, similar to that of the Jedi are to reputedly do upon death, though this claim is, as of yet, unsubstantiated.

It also seems that fate is not without it's sense of balance, as the mysterious, masked Peacekeeper officer Scorpius, one of the archetects of the "War for the Route," was also killed during the fighting onboard the Terriax. His body is being held onboard the Federation starship Karamazov, and rumors that he was some type of android duplicate seem to be, for the moment, unfounded, though we have no official word from Starfleet one way or another.

The War for the Route may have ended, by questions linger. The Peacekeeper blockade was admittedly caused due to their inability to return to their home galaxy, a piece of information which has only recently come to light. If that was true, how did the Scarrans know when to attack? Who financed Skrellnik--a relatively benign spice smuggler and crime lord out of Mos Eisley--to make a large-scale play for dominance in the Arkanis Sector? Who was The Ghost, and will the social reforms he wished for the planet see realization? We may never find out the answers to these issues. Humanitarian forces such as the Kukai Foundation, are working hard to see the abolishment of such practices as slavery and spice-smuggling through the Tatoo system, but there is only so much which can be done in the wake of such a destrutive war. And what of the Olympus Station, now the center of political discourse in the sector, with the Federation's intent to prevent another war like this one?

In truth, only time will tell how the new status quo is built.

((Totally needed to create a handle before doing this but whatever)) A very convincing looking ghost shows up "The Ghost as a person may die, but his ideals and his fight, the very thing he tried to show us is alive. but even our beloved icon wasn't truly free, he was still shackled by the council. As he struggled to free us from the unjust Hutts, he was still reliant on outside forces, forces who while may be well intentioned, would still enslave us to their rules and taxes. So we must stand up, as a fully independent planet, and thank the council factions for their aid, and firmly ask them to leave, the planet is ours, we must build it our own way, and without their ties."

He throws his arms up "The Ghost may be dead, but his ideal will live on, we will be free, and NO one will control us!
