Shaun 7:07pm, August 08, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | This is getting ridiculous.
I mean sure, at first I could handle at least ONE cortosis ore gloved hand, but a whole body armored with it? Thats just messed up, it totally throws off any chance of lightsaber battle. I mean yea, after a couple of bashes against it the ore starts to crumble, but still.
It wasn´t in the movies, it really isn´t real. It MAY have been in the books, I don´t know. But George Lucas did NOT right the books, he only gave permission to the people who wanted to, and those people came up with their own ideas.

| So we´re discounting anything that wasn´t in the movies now? |

Michael 11:26pm, August 08, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | movies take presendence over books, but only if the item in question was in a SW movie, else its the books territory..... |

Det 1:34am, August 09, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | Cortosis Ore is mentioned in at least two if not three books, First one being I Jedi. The other two are Zahn´s Specter of the Past, and Visions of the future. I am not 100% sure, but I do beleve that lightsabers do cause damage to cortosis ore, except they are little cuts instead of going through it. I am not totally sure, I need to Read the two Zahn books again to know if this is true or not. Also I beleve when you try to make armor out of cortosis ore and another metal, you are weakening the abilites of both the ore and the metal. I cant find my copy of I Jedi right now, but if Im right then amror with the cortosis ore entertwined with metal only stops blades, not shuts them off, though as I said I am not totally sure on it yet. But I do know that even a saber strike to armor of mixed materials would still vaporise the non cortosis-ore materials in the armor because the saber still makes contact before it is shut off. This means if you hack at their armor in one spot you would be able to remove the metals, making it voulnerable to attacks by other methods. The fact that the saber still hits the ore before it is shot down is what makes me also think that it causes scraches in the material when you strike with with a saber, if I can confirm it and if it is true, then that means armor of cotrosis ore only slows the inevetiable. I will try to look into it, but if anyone has the books I Jedi, Specter of the Past, or Visions of the future, if you would please look through them and see if they say anything about it. |

Dave 12:08am, August 10, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | Ok, first off...Det was mostly right about cortosis....the 3 books he mentioned were the correct ones, though I believe there may have been a few more others it might have been mentioned lightly in. Anyways, what cortosis does is cause a lightsaber to shut down after a very, very, short moment of contact...cortosis is NOT, I repeat....NOT.. invincible against lightsabers. A person wearing cortosis armor CAN be defeated...as with any suit of armor, there are always ways to get around them....that, and after taking enough hits, the lightsaber will eventually cut through the cortosis....cortosis itself is a rather fragile, flaky mineral...you shoot it, it´ll pretty much disappear...when used in armor however it´s combined with other materials to help against blaster effects, but is still vulnerable. When a lightsaber comes in contact with cortosis, it will begin cutting through a slight bit before the saber shuts off, so multiple hits to the same spot will effectively act like hacking away with at marble with a chisel. Takes time, but it IS possible....as well, the armor has also been used in the game Jedi Outcast. So anybody coming into the cantina claiming they have cortosis armor and that a lightsaber won´t affect them in any way, should be considered moding...granted the armor will help against the attacks, but it is NOT completely invulnerable to sabers. Any one has any questions about this, I´ll be glad to look up and provide proof of it. And as for books not counting, Lucas personally reviews every single idea given before the books are ever written, so if it´s written, Lucas has OKed it. He HAS gone back and change some things later on, revolving around the movies, because well, it´s his movies, his universe. But the books hold just as much creedence in the SW universe as the movies do, so the whole "Books don´t count" bullshit is futile. Anyways, that´s all for now...... |
| Time for some publicy. |
JekNado 1:31am, August 10, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | Most Shinra armors have a fine layer of cortorsis ore one them, so if your looking for some... |
| How? |
Thorn Sparks 8:05pm, August 14, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | How many .666 bullets can the armor take. And have a full suit of the body armor is quit unfair.

| Hmmmm |
Rob 9:12pm, August 14, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | Dave has it spot on. Cortosis ore is [i]very[/i] brittle. It has to be woven into materiel like durasteel to be able to withstand a saber hit, it´s alse [i]very[/i] rare, finding enough to construct and entire suit of armour is like buying a diamond flack jacket. |

Jace 8:10am, August 17, 2002 [Edit] [Delete] | gets even better than that if Cortosis is mixed with another stubstance to create an alloy, than it looses its ability to shut a lightsaber off it either works at 100% efficency or not at all, in nature its a very flaky substance, almost like sand stone if I read it correctly |
