NRHNN 7:39am, December 25, 2008 [Edit] [Delete] | The New Republic Seal is on screen for a few seconds, Life Day music playing in the background before cutting out to a scene set up around a fireplace, decorated with all sorts of decorations. Sitting on the left side of the fire is Chief of State Tassimek and on its right, newly elected Elayne Kavos. As the camera focuses a little more Tassimek he shifts and begins to speak.
"My fellow beings of this galaxy, my time as Chief of State is nearly at an end. I have no regrets or remorse about it ending I chose not to run in the end, instead preferring to return to my previous job working as a representative of my home world Dac. Taking my place as elected by the people will be Elayne Kavos of Chandrilia and one who I have the greatest confidences will run the Republic well. Chandrilia has been part of the republic ever since the earliest days of the rebellion with its own Mon Mothma who helped unite the diverse but tiny rebellions into one force large enough to topple it over.”
“While we have the public faces of Princess Leia Organna, the fire tongued diplomat who snuck through Imperial blockades to bring aid to new allies, who brought a number of systems to our cause by helping them realize the empire was defeatable, The daring’s of Han Solo who brought a whole new generation up into the ideas of the lone smuggler as a reengage a romantic figure and still a hero, to my own fellow Mon Calamarian Supreme Commander Ackbar who led our military forces to victory skillfully carving through the splintering pieces of the empire as though he was a surgeon carefully cutting out tumors with practiced ease, Mon Mothma was behind it all keeping us together through the best and the worst of it all, and now her world of Chandrilia will have another of its own at the helm to keep us on track.”
“But of course she can’t do it all on her own. The people of the Republic must always be willing to step forward and help, to ensure their voices are heard by their senators, to always keep the vigilante eye open for forces of corruption and evil. If we allow ourselves to become complacent we will falter, if we do not watch our senators the wrong ones may get in, and we may see another empire try to birth itself from another republic.”
“We have seen another year of great increases, our economy continues to rise all over the Republic, building slowly to that magic goal that our economy once saw before the Clone and the Civil war devastated a number of worlds, and left it floundering. Joblessness, poverty, homelessness is all on the decline but still high, and there’s still many out there who need our help, with Life Day upon us it is another good time to remind all the goodwill to other beings this holiday represents, help those who need it, and try to continue that aid, just not today, but for the rest of the year. And don’t hesitate to look to those outside of our Republic. The outer rim governments around Tatooine have seen some of their economy’s falter, which has in turn affected a number of other governments. A bill is being pushed through our senate that will allow us to sell a number of items at good fair prices that their own marketplaces may purchase and in turn sell to their consumers, hopefully jumpstarting them and ending this recession. Also in the matters of the outer rim is, as always, the route of ages. We have seen all types come through this strange doorway, and lately a move by a group known as the Peacekeepers threatened our ally’s connection with their home world. I believe it shows we need some sort of controlling factor around the Route, something that can ensure no one faction will control its abilities and prevent another its rightful allowance to use this route. My last act as Chief of State, and a project I will personally take on as I step down, will be the proposal of building a multi-national space station at the entrance of the route. Every faction will have a right to build onto the station which will then serve as a welcoming party to those who come through, a port of berth for the trading groups to access the route of ages and find new markets in new galaxies, maybe even new dimensions, and as a protector keeping the route accessible for all factions regardless of political situations. The crew will be made up of all those who participate, and each group will have access to the knowledge gained , the people met, and the trade that may come through this route. I can only hope the other factions feel strongly enough to see this put into action, a station situated near the route needs to be a Galactic symbol, not a faction specific one.”
Music begins to play again and the camera slowly pulls back. “My friends of the Republic, our challenges are continuing to become more and more from the outside as we stabilize ourselves internally and see our own worlds rebuilt and renewed. We are a member of the galactic community, even the intergalactic community, and we must not forget those that live outside our borders are still part of this galaxy as well, we need to make friends with those who share our ideals, we need to watch those we suspect. Let us share our wealth with others, let’s bring light to the entire galaxy, our price for freedom is eternal vigilance, let us hope we never forget that, and may you all have a wonderful and merry Life Day.” Fade with music increasing until it cuts out to regular channel programming.
