[Delete] | Cameras fade in on a packed Senat chamber, the Podium for the Cheif of State is empty, and this time she would be up there alone, there were no chairs behind her, nor any signs of those who would occupy them. Finally as the time approached Leia Organna Solo would appear, and the din of talking would fall to a near silence. She sat a datapad down onto the podiums surface and was quiet for another moment before speaking.
"Sentient beings of the Galaxy, 20 years ago, I was on board a small corvette, racing through the Tatoo system, in my hands were the fate of the rebellion, the Death Star Plans. In those days we talked alot about restoring the Republic, and our grand crusade, but in reality those days were simply about survival, few actually belived they would live to see our dreams fullfiled, but we were all willing to fight and die for them. And many did die for those dreams, but those deaths were not in vain, for only five years after that harrowing chase, and before the remains of the Second Death Star even had a chance to cool, we were finally forming the Republic."
Her speech pauses as she does somthing with the datapad, and looks back up silent for a bit longer.
"Now here we are, first under the Guidance of Mon Mothma, who not only led our rebellion but the first years of the republic, and to myself who has overseen this great union for nine years. It is time to move on, to hand the reigns over to someone else, and to truly get the Republic started. Mon Mothma was voted in before there was a true republic to vote, and I was elected in as Mon Mothmas sucessor, by the senate. Now with the recent signing of the shift of powers bill, the Cheif of state, their Second of State, and their Chansellor of the Senate will be elected by the populations. my Second of state Tassimek will handel Cheif of State duities untill the first lection five years from now. These next five years will be spent preparing for the first Cheif of State to be elected by the masses, rather than the senate. this bill also gives more power to the system governments, ensuring every planet will have a level of independence and antonimy without sacrificing the bonds of the republic."
"I am not leaving the republic, though I will be stepping out of the light as much as possible, I will be training in my familys heiratage with my Brothers Jedi Order, I will be spending more time with my family, but I wil also remain with the Republic as a negotiator and a diplomat, helping to keep our Republic safe. The wellbeing of the republic should be on the minds of every Senator and even every person in the republic, we have seen what happens when corruption runs through unchecked, and what happens when an Empror is allowed to take control. We must keep our Military strong, shoudl any outside threat ever wish to harm us, we must keep our eyes and ears open for the signs of corruption from within and the threats from outside. Only through vigilance will we retain control of our republic, and our freedom. My Resignation will take effect at the end of this month, in that time I will be visiting many planets during our Navies "fleet month" giving fairwell speaches across the galaxy. my Second of State has cancelled his plans in order to ensure he is ready to take my place when the end of the month comes."
Her speach ends, the senate hall is silent, a rare moment that will probly never be heard again, as she takes up her datpad and leaves, allowing the channels the brodcast was playing on to resume their normal functions. |
