[Delete] | Coruscant- Several days of heated arguments in the New Republic Senate proceeded the voting on several issues. One issue, which has drawn lots of public debate as well, is the Armed Forces Modernization Ticket (Ticket 4283-9). This ticket augments the Starfighter Modernization Ticket passed several months ago as well as the restructuring of the Armed forces.
Ticket 4283-9 which barely passed through senate, will increase allocations towards decomissining old rebellion era ships and construct new moderized ones in their place, Opposition claimed it would be a waste of money since the New Republic is currently in no wars that would need such starships to be updated. Those for the bill counter that new starhsips, especially ones built for combat, will be easyer to maintain, require less crew due to new technologies, and overall save the Republic on maintenance and crew costs. A previous bill the Starfighter Modernization Ticket does the same for starfighter squadrons, though it passed much more easly, and deals primarily with the phasing out of Y-wings in favor of b-wings and introducing a great starfighter mix with E and K wings.
The Armed forces are now sevearl months into a reconstruction program, which will change the size of starfighter squadrons and army divisions, as well as supply the fleet with new uniforms. This was kicked off during on the Anniversery of the Battle of Endor, in which the second death star was destroyed and the empire began to crumble. Heavy support for the military flooded the streets that day, and cheered as Admiral Ackbar, head of the Navy announced their plans to restructure the military and give it the look it deserved.
Construction has been finished on the first Station in Tanos. The Farpoint Tatooine Fleet (FT Fleet) Is stationed at Tanos, ment to act as an advanced warning for unkown threats from the rim after others such as Thrawn, the Ssi-Ruuk, and the Yevetha. The Farpoint fleet has poven to be popular among New republic Citizens who feel the threats must be stoped as rimward as possible to prevent damage to the colonies or inner rim territories. In fact it has proven so sucessful that the New Republic announed plans for sevearl more Farpoint Fleets, including one at Yavin, which will aslo serve as a defence fleet for the Jedi Academy on Yain. The station at Tanos will serve as a refuel and resupply station, as well as the fleets HQ. its the first of Five planned statiosns, and a minor shipyard. mining companies have begun construction to take advantage of the mineral rich planets.
FT Fleet consists of over 200 vessels, the flaship being the Obi-Wan (A Defender-Class Star Destroyer). in support the FT fleet can call upon nearly 700 more vessels in a three hour hyperjump range and over 2000 in a 5 hour hyperjump range. |

[Delete] | The Farpoint Tatooine fleet has delcared another large victory over the Pirate forces of Lanos Gerrag. An earlyer trap set up by Admiral Parks allowed a cargoship to be captured by the pirate, but it contained several hidden beakons. The Pirates found all but one which led the New Republic Taskforce to his homebase where a largescale bombarment quickly disabled its defences and several quick strike ground forces infiltrated and captured the Pirate Leader, his forces quickly scattered and tonight the Remains are being mopped up. Princess Leia soon made a speech where she annouced her gratitude for the fleets Valiant efforts against pirate raids along the New Republic border. Since The Farpoint Tatooine fleet became active there has been sharp decrese in raids on the Shipping within New Republic space, though a few critics point out the Fleet has done little to stop smuggling, another activity that pipes down the trade routes from fringe territories.
Good news and troubling news both came from the Yavin sector today, as Farpoint Yavin has announced its bases in the Yavin system are now operational, providing another link of defence along the New Republics fringe worlds and offering a fleet defence for the Jedi Acadmey Located on Yavin 4, where the fighters launched for their historical battle against the Death Star. At the same time however Jedi Master Luke Skywalker has issured a warning to the New Republic.
"Dark Forces are rising thougough the fringe, threats of the force and threats of other powers not of the force are growing and the New Republic must prepare, it must offer its resources to stopping these powers before they can pose a threat to the Republic, which so many people died to build. The Jedi Order is already to begin seeking these threats, but our numbers are few and spread thin, we cannot do this alone." |

[Delete] | A spectacular battle took place over Tatooine, what orgionally appeared to be a Hutt attempt at regaining compleate control of Tatooine. Soon however the true purpose was revealed. Senator Tyrin's personal starship was detected in orbit by the Farpoint Tatooine Fleet who supplied us with the following images. Senator Tyrin's ship was identified ahs being the center of a dark force presence, and even the Senator hismelf was pointed as being the cause of thise presence. Statements by both Admiral Steve Parks and Jedi Knight Casadr Nevals are being held as classifed by the Government for now but both attest the presence came directly from the Senator. Already Master Skywalker has issued a decleration, backd by Cheif Of State Leia Organna that the senator must be arrested and brought in for charges, Leia Organna also stated that the evidence that his ship carried illegal weaponry for New Republic citizens must be answered for as well, along with why his ship was in the sector in the first place.
Farpoint Tatooine Fleet has been placed on full alert and sent to hunt down these sith vessles, while teh senate conveines in an emergancy session to debate on if the charges warrent an arrest of the Senator of Coruscant.
*Following the announcement several photos are shown, the senators ship firing its illegal (for the NR at least) weaponry, the decloaking sith fleet supporting the Senators ship along with them shielding the senators ship as it escapes the system. following the pictures are a few video images of Admiral Parks and the Jedi declaring the feelings of a dark presence and later their identification that it came from the senators ship and indeed more than likely the senator.* |

[Delete] | THe New Republic today announced an increased effort in contacting and communicating with the numerous new factions that seem to be appearing. Talks have begun with the United Federation of Planets, which most senators and ambassidors describe as a pleasing and frineldy government, most closely associated with the New Republics Ideals. Debate has begun over making official contact with the often called Trags, who have occupied Tatooine for some time now. other senators have pushed to increase talks with the Imperial remenants and even to try and reach out to factions that splintered off From the Alliance and the New Republic. Cheif of State Leia Organna Solo publicy announced she would also respond to any goverments or factions attempting to contact the NR, and each one would be handled accordingly. |
| New Republic signs Treaty with the United Federation of Planets |

Naboo- The New Republic had signed a treaty with the United Federation of Planets, in what many senators say will be a historical one remembered millinia from now. This is the first treaty signed by the New Republic involving an extra-galaxtic Government. The treaty was a basic one hoping to form a friendship that will later grow, promising the federation a possible foothold in the galaxy while also securing a large portion of New Republic border. They also promise to offer aid in any distress or emergancy situations that may arise and the New Republic hopes that lines of Trade and maybe even techological sharing may open up in the future.
Cheif of State Leia Organna Solo was there personally to sign the treaty along with former Cheif of State Mon Mothma and her brother Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as represenitives. The Federation Ambassidors included Trel'nik of Vulcan, Admiral Rishard of Mars, and Ambassidor Lyra from Earth.
After the signing the Cheif of State offered the Federation three corellian corvetts that were to be scrapped, but instead hoped that their hyperdrive engines, which run faster than current federation warp drives, could aid in quicker colonizations of the newly given space.
Coruscant- Following the widely popular and sucessful treaty with the United Federation of Planets the New Republic turned its attention to the Tragolite Federation, as negotiations begin about a possible treaty between them despite a few ambassidors still see them as Invaders of Tatooine. Ambassidor Daskins who was raised on Tatooine has voluenteered to begin talks with the Tragolites untill a proper diplomatic team can be assimbled stating he wishes to see the state of the population and planet with his own eyes before talks begin. |
| Drastic Changes in Republics Government |

[Delete] | Coruscant- Today marked a major change in the New Republics government. A series of laws and amenments were signed in by Cheif of State Leia Organna Solo, which resulted in greater power being given to the systems, making it harder for any Palpatine style take overs. With the Senate once handling nearly all lawmaking and security most planets rarely bothered with a formal planetary government, leaving policing and such to smaller local authorities such as city or regional governors.
The series of laws and anmendments that were signed will now require a formation of a planetary government, The New Republics senate will still issue laws and deal with diplomatic and other issues, but not nearly on the same scale, local governments will be allowed to pass laws as long as they do not conflict with New Republic laws.
Several surprising arrests were made today, New Republic officals working with Jedi Knights to root out the coruption in the senate prosseded to arrest 15 senators and their aids, freezing their assets. though many of the senators insit this is a ploy by the Jedi to root out those that opose the Jedi order, evidence is quickly comming to light that these senators have been indeed up to some corrupt deeds, from syphoning funds to even acts of subversion, plans to break away from the New republic with their own little empire.
New Alderaan- In anticipation of the new laws being signed in many systems began running elections for the new positions, New Alderaan was not an exception, though their government is. In a nearly unanimous vote the People of New Alderaan voted to restablish their previous Plantary government naming Ranod Organna as King after cheif of state Leia Organna Solo politly refused as rightful heir of Bail Organna. The Royal houses of Alderaan had not been restored after the death star attack because of the lack of a homeworld and the following New Republic senate placed little need for a strong planetary government.
The High Council, the Alderaanian senate, will consist of elected officials to ensure that the Royal houses keep the peoples intrests in mind.
Naboo- As with New Alderaan, Naboo has decided to give most of the power to its queen. THe Queen shall return to her status as she had back during the days of the Old republic, instead of being a diplomatic figure head she was during the New Republics early years. it is undecidied at this point if Naboo will create a planetary senate or if like in the old republic the queen will remian in compleate power unless forced out of office.

[Delete] | Coruscant- After several long and heated sessions of the senate, an agreement was finally made to accept the peace offer between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant, but to reject the proposal of Alliance in the same offer. Many senators in the Republic do not trust the Imperials enough to make such an alliance, some feel that even a peace treaty will be a streach of Imperial ability. Many of the senators who were once part of Imperial governments felt the Alliance would have been the best choice, but did not push for it when it became apparent they could not assemble a majority.
Authorities on Coruscant are still searching for two perpitrators who caused serious damage and left three New Republic Police officers dead and one seriously wounded. the only known photograph of one suspect is this taken by the wounded Officer during the battle. *A hazy and broken picture of Raithis from what appears to be some sort of shoulder camera on one of the officers. after a second the picture reverts to outside survalence camearas of Raithis's ship* The suspect made a getaway in this vessel while back up forces were attempting to rescue their comrades.
The second suspect *Pictures of Felinx appear* is wanted for questioning, reports indicate she was in a gunfight with the first suspect then the four officers arrived. She was identified as Felinx, and is also currently being wanted on suspition of possible illegal slavery operations within New Republic space. a reward of 25,000 credits is offered to anyone with information on either suspect that leads to their apprehention |

The Driving Question
The Republic Senate hall was rocked by debate early this week, as Senator Gemini of the Outer Rim territories argued for the flow of aid to Rim territories not under the Republics jurisdiction, in the form of humanitarian missions and possible military presences on planets unable to police themselves. On the other side of the fence, Senator Sapien von Mortyr of the planet Nockmarr argued against such actions, stating that the Republic should focus on its own problems before taking up the fight in systems outside the Republic.
The Senate floor erupted as soon as it was called together, Senator Gemini's passionate plea with the other senators seeming to go over their heads.
"There have been reports of destruction on Tatooine," said the Senator in yesterdays senate session. Recently, the planet of Tatooine, lately a focal point for all major happenings in the galaxy, has been rocked by terrorist attacks by unknown perpetrators. "Particularly in Mos Eisley. What I wish to know is what the Republic, let alone the Empire, as they are indeed our allies, are planning on doing about this?"
The Senator was quickly reminded that the Tatooine system is more traditionally a protectorate of the Empire, to which she had strong words as well. "They have the forces, the technology. I recently recieved a report that General Kael turned down our requests to re-instate our XB-48321 profile on grounds that they do not have the resources to give up for such a project. IF that is so then why isn't the Republic stepping in to take matters into their own hands?"
Ignorning the protests of the other Senators, Gemini continued her critical scrutiny of the Empire. ""It is not just one city or one planet Chancellor. several other planets in my system are experiencing similar types of threats as there is no real Republic or Imperial Presence there. I demand an inquisition. The Empire should be taking care of that sector... if they claim to not have the resources then we should at least know the reason why. They are our allies are they not? They should be inspected."
Senator von Mortyr brought voice to those opposed to Gemini's call for action.
"Senator Gemini speaks to quickly on the subject. This has already been decided, what details of Tatooine! Let us not forget the unpleasantness of three months ago when the Dread Conglomerate made attacks on the Imperial Consulate in Mos Eisley. The New Republic was swift to assist following the terrorist attack and yet even as the Empire and New REpublic forge an alliance," Imperial and Republic delegates have been in talks for several months now to form a political and military alliance. "Senator Gemini tests (this alliance) with her dangerous insinuations against the Empire."
Though no one seems to disagree that the impovershed Outer Rim could use the aid that the Republic or the Empire could offer, those like Senator von Mortyr point out that the Republic has its own issues to deal with at home. "It is important to take care of our citizens first, when Tatooine wants help it shall ask for it! We do not force help onto others, or do we condemn them to a system of government they have not agreed to serve in! This New Republic was founded on the ideals that we should listen but be careful to act. We can not actively attack and defend planets that are not within our realm without the consent of the people.. does the life of a Republic soldier dying on foriegn land to help people who may or may not get killed in the War worth it? And after we have waged this war, assuming it does not drag on for years, what then? The next time a child cries on a foriegn planet You will rush into this senate chamber and cry bloody murder?"
Not to be silenced so readily, Senator Gemini continued her passionate calls for the Senate to act. "Do they not deserve the peace that we all share? Do they not deserve to wake up to peace and good will and a healthy life? They deserve it as much as we do. We sit here in the Senate and hold the lives of billions in our hands and yet we do nothing! .. For every life that may be sacrificed we may save two in a confrontation! Do we not have our own diplomatic ways? Do we not have our own ways outside of war with which to bring peace to these planets? You call me a warmonger sir but I believe it is you, Senator, that is doing the warmongering!"
Many citizens find themselves as polarised as the Senate as to the wisdom of sending any kind of force to the Outer Rim.
"The last time we sent forces to the Outer Rim," says Coruscant shopowner Helmyt Euro. "We lost a few hundred of our brave fighter pilots and a bunch of brave ship crews to stop a stupid local faction spat. That ain't worth it to me, not when I have two kids in the Army."
"Does the Senator really think that everyone will just roll over and say thanks?" asks Political Scientist professor Jon Murley at the Republic University on Coruscant. "The society of the Outer Rim is far more complex and fickle than I think Senator Gemini wants to believe. Handing them materials they didn't have previously won't appease trillions of impovershed people."
"I think it's a noble effort," says transit worker Augustyn Ambrose. "It amazes me that we left that part of the galaxy in the first place after the militas over there stopped fighting eachother. Feels like we left the job unfinished if you ask me."
Righteous Idealist, or Violent Self Server?
Shortly after the heated debate, a video of the security tapes of Senator von Mortyr's private chambers was sent to the offices of the New Republic News network showing Senator Gemini threatening to have von Mortyr removed from the Senate.
"You make a mockery of the Senate!" says Gemini in the video. "And you make a mockery of me! How dare you, I have half a mind to remove you from the Senate!"
Though von Mortyr asked Gemini to keep her voice down, her passion from the Senate floor seemed to follow her to von Mortyr's chambers., as she slapped him across the face twice before leaving.
When asked to respond to her physically striking her fellow Senator, Gemini was of few words. "As far as what went on between Senator von Mortyr and myself is between himself and I and no one else. I have no comment to make on that tape."
"That she is afraid to own up to what she has done," said Senator von Mortyr early today. "And feels that because of all of her goodness and well meaning intentions she is somehow above the rules of Right and Wrong. That she has nothing to say because she knows what she did was wrong and if she doesn't comment on it, doesn't notice it, no one will."
Imperial Apathy?
"I'm not asking for just police action" said Gemini in a follow up interview. "Definitely a bit of military support to give families and communities who need security would help, but there are other ways. Relocation programs, housing programs, farming programs, things that can really help these populations that look to the New Republic for support.
"I believe that we should find out what is bringing the Empire down so far. They are allies with us as well, it should be only fair that we find out what is bringing them down and try to help them. As the second strongest governing body and as a reformed ally of the New Republic, I think we could extend an olive branch and lend some help to them as well."
Though she remains critical of the Empire, she does acknowledge that such an investigation would have to be a two way street between the governments. "It would have to be if we are to keep strong bonds with the Empire. Given past discretions, and lack of detailed reports from them as to their current discretions, I think the Republic has a right to know what a once sworn enemy is up to."
General Dakkon Kael, Supreme Commander of the Galactic Empire, had harsh words in response to Senator Gemini apparent idealism. "I say the Senator has a good idea," said the General earlier today. "But I would also like to note that most of the systems out there would consider any form of aid a dangerous act. Things like that are not merely a situation where those who want aid get it, and those who do not don't.. what happens if all you do is give those in need supplies, and those supplies are taken by governments in charge? Do you force them to give them to the people? And if thats the case, wouldn't that spark some kind of power struggle? And if that occurs things could become violent. Senator Gemini is a dreamer. I've spent the better part of my late career in those regions. Those powers that claim them hold it in a grasp that will not yield easily or allow for the type of aid the senator hopes to send."
The calls by Senator Gemini for an investigation into the Empire's fiscal state also drew harsh words by the General, describing his reaction as "disgusted", outside of his harsh criticism. "Sounds more like a number of Senators and Represenatives walking into the captial to execute those not completely loyal to the New Republic policies more than 'helping'. Unless of course, the Senator feels the Empire should be annexed and included into the fold. Looks more like she wants to check the spoils of war before dedicating to the cause. I sense a pattern of using the word 'help', and transposing it with the word 'invade'."
Kael also had much to say in the way of accusations that his Empire is not doing enough to help stem the rise in poverty. "In light of a possible threat against my Imperial Embassy, I have moved a force outside of Mos Eisley. Until the threat has abated, they will not leave. However, I had to fight hard to find acceptence in that city. I rebuilt several sections of the city, offered off ... aid, however that didn't help. They want and they want, but they never are pleased."

It is you who wish to wage war with factions who have existed to years where they are just so you can help people. The New Republic is not desired to expand itself, its desire is to serve its people and to admit systems that request to join. We do not Force anything, Gemini. It appears that we have two senators who have taken their roles a step too far. Gemini and von Mortyr WILL take a leave of absense from their respective posts, by force is nessisary. I will not have senators striking one another, and I will not have senators egging their fellows into violence and recording the results just to air over the republic.
Von Mortyr, if you cannot handle being struck then do not egg a person to do so, also if you wish to press charges or make such an assult public, you follow proper channels and go to the authorities not the media.
Gemini, if you cannot handle a fellow senators words, then politics is not for you, politics is a game of words, and though you will never like what your opponent has to say, violence is never an acceptible responce to words, he goaded you and you fell for the bait.
Now, I am here to run a Republic, not a daycare for overaged children. YOU are here for the good of the people not to squabble and fight. My position on the empire, the state of Tatooine and the rest of the galaxy will be made clear in my end of the year speech, both of you are welcomed to come to the senate hall and participate, after which I expect both of you to take those Leave of Absenses, there is no negotiation here, I am backed by majority support in both the Judicitial Council and the Ruling Council, if either of you wish to fight this LOA you can always call for a vote from the Judicial Council, and gain a black spot for being "officialy" repremanded rather than a "suggestive" break in your duities.

It appears we have a misunderstanding abound. Many people see my disiplinary action as an autocratic movment, that I alone judged and tried the two, that is not true at all. as I stated I have Majority SUPPORT, in the Legislative and the Ruling Councils. This means that I have had met with both councils, the Legislative Council which deals with disiplinary actions approved and gave me the power to announce such an action, the Ruling council, which is the head of every council in the New Republic senate also approved this action, I mearly stated my itentions in the statement.
So as you can see this was indeed a Democratic prosess, the Judicial majority and the Ruling Council majorities have authorized the Leave of absenses so that both memebers can regain composure and return to the senate without violence, this has nothing to do with their debates, only the situation that got out of hand afterwards, I ask everyone to please return to your homes, and do not fear that the republic is desending into Autocracy, I will continue to petition the senats councils for their support as I always have |

Confirmed reports of protesting and riots breaking out in and around the governmental section of Coruscant, following President Organa-Solo's order forcing Senator von Myr'tor and Senator Gemini to take a leave of absence today. The crowds were estimated to be swelling to close to a million protesters.
"Reinstate or Evacuate!" was heard being chanted among the protesters early this afternoon, with several sections of the large crowd turning violent as New Republic riot squads were deployed to help quell the more angry groups of protestors.
Questions regarding Organa-Solo's statement arose almost as quickly as it was released among the citizenry, regarding exactly what rights the President was using in her order to have the two sparring Senators removed.
"Two Senators have a debate that gets heated, and suddenly our democratically selected representatives are being tossed out on their (explitive deleted) for doing nothing more than debating?" cried local union leader Fl'oyr Jundland. "I remember the Emperor once dissolved the Senate because he didn't like the power they had against him, too, is that where we're headed?"
President Organa-Solo's office could not be reached for comment, though it is well known that she had the backing of the Judiciary branch to have the senators removed.
"Even so," quips Political Scientist Jon Murley. "She avoided the usual channels, her executive officer should have given the order out, as in any democratic society, it is the Executive, not the Commander who presides over the Senate."
Isolated and sketchy reports of riots and protests breaking out in other planets in the Coruscant system could not be immediately confirmed.
The offices of Senator von Myr'tor and Senator Gemini could not be reached for comment at this time. |
