She wonders if they are supposed to wear down after a while, for surely an already obedient slave would not require such reminders. Surely even Muna, in her sadistic cruelty realized a generally comfortable slave, who was loyal, was a better serving slave. Granted she knew she didn't fully fit the description of being loyal, having no choice, but she was playing the part and she had to wonder about the future and how Muna treated her others, if she forced them to suffer for their entire lives like this as a "reminder"*
