Name: Lorhen

Original Name: Aldanor Maplewood

Title: Hero of the Stars

Evangelical Link: Alluvium

Age: Somewhere around 700 years old

Race: Elf

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 155 lbs

Appearance: He is a tall, lanky male that seems to have never quite lost his boyish looks despite his age. He stands at 6'3" tall, has long platinum blond hair, and blue eyes, one of them normally covered by an eye patch. He tends to dress in traditional clothing, much liking it that way and somewhat fitting of his position. He also has a very lovely singing voice in a soothing baritone.

Personality: Lorhen is very bright and knowledgeable and has a wonderful memory. He is also courteous, kind, and honest, for the most part. He is a strong believer in the old ways being good, that they should be cherished. However, he is also very awkward at times, which he often explains by saying that a piece of him is missing.

Dreams/Aspirations: To finally be allowed to die. Yes, it's morbid, but understandable given his situation.

Hobbies: Gardening, song writing, storytelling, reading

  • Heightened Senses: 10 (exp: 5500)
  • Resistance to Psychic Attacks: 15 (exp: 12000) - Due to the link with Alluvium, he is resistant to psychic attacks and if one pushes too hard, they'll receive a backlash powerful enough to cause an aneurysm.

Magic:

  • Plant Magic: 5 (exp: 1500) (Weakness: Fire)
  • Clairvoyance: 10 (exp: 5500) - The visions come on their own and he has no control over what he sees, so asking him to view a certain thing would do no good. However, they are constant and he is capable of seeing anything from any point in history anywhere on this world. Visions of the future are only of the possible future should things go unchanged. (Weakness: difficulty distinguishing reality from visions)

History: Lorhen remembers his childhood fondly as being a generally happy time, although it was not altogether perfect. He grew up under the name Aldanor, or "Al" for short, the second of three boys born to a soldier and his wife. While his brothers were the more adventuresome and bold types like their father, Al took more after his mother, a quiet, bookish sort. She came from a family of nobility, although they dispossessed her when she chose to marry someone far below her own ranking. Still, she carried with her the grace and charm she was raised with and tried her best to teach her three boys how to behave like proper gentlemen. Al seemed to pick up on it easily enough, but the lessons were completely lost on the other two.

The first time tragedy struck his life was when he was a young adolescent. The three boys would often go camping out in the woods outside of the capital city whenever school was not in session. It was a fun adventure for them, and while their mother protested, their father encouraged them to go have fun and experience nature for themselves. Things normally went well for them and they would come back with stories of what they'd done and things they had found, perhaps with some scrapes and bruises, but otherwise fine. This period of innocent fun came to a sharp end when they returned from an excursion early, carrying the lifeless body of the youngest, who had climbed too high in a tree in pursuit of a colorful bird. Not being cautious enough, as those that young tend to take risks without a thought, he moved out onto a branch which couldn't support his weight. It snapped and he fell all the way to the ground and snapped his little neck. After this loss, the two surviving boys were forbidden to go camping alone, and Al just didn't have the desire in him to anymore. He rarely strayed from home for very long and became a little withdrawn, throwing himself into his studies even though he didn't have any goal in mind.

When Al was about to graduate from the academy, a war broke out, as they so often do on this world. His father went off to fight and his older brother joined the army to help defend Erufu as well. Neither of them were to return from battle alive. Grief-stricken at the loss of her husband, his mother knew she would not be long for this world, so she wanted to make sure her only remaining child was taken care of. Before she passed on, she got in touch with a noble family that she'd known in her childhood and set it up for Al to become a tutor for their son who was still a small child. Little did either of them know, but at this time she also passed along to him the sleeping angel Alluvium, whom she'd had within her since she was a child herself.

So, now all alone, he set up to work for the family, and it seemed to be a good fit for him. The little boy was adorable and a curious sort, so he taught him some basic reading and math but spent most of his time telling the young boy stories from mythology and history. He sold his family's home and bought a small apartment closer to work.

It was during this time that he met her, a lovely elf maiden named Anira. She played a lute in one of the town squares every afternoon during the spring and summer, and it was the music that first caught his attention. Being so shy and withdrawn, he didn't dare approach her directly at first, and so he started leaving her flowers and anonymous love notes and bits of poetry on the bench where she usually sat. Things would have continued this way, all from a distance, but he accidentally ran into her, quite literally, on his way home from the library one day. She was more outgoing and friendly than he was, and so this began a string of encounters between them whenever she noticed him.

However, he was still too shy to confront her directly about his feelings, but he did have a plan. He continued to leave anonymous notes for her, but when he heard that Queen Rika was throwing one of her fabulous parties, he decided to take it a step further. Using some contacts he'd made through his employers, he was able to pull some strings to get Anira added to the small orchestra who would be providing the music. Once that was done, he also splurged to buy her a beautiful dress in a dusty rose color and had it sent to her home with a note, but still anonymously. The plan was to approach her at the party and reveal to her that he had been the one secretly romancing her all this time. Unfortunately, things rarely go according to plan. The night of the party arrived, and he was called off by his employers to watch the little boy before he had gotten up the nerve to confess his feelings to her.

In addition to that, Anira caught the eye of his employer's younger brother, Daeduin, at the party and he began to woo her as well. Daeduin began having Anira over to the large family home on a regular basis to play for him, all with hints of romance and the possibility of marriage someday. Al was devastated, but since Anira seemed happy, he was willing to step down for her sake. Eventually Daeduin convinced Anira to move in with him, although with her own bedroom to keep things proper, offering it as more time to spend with her, but truly it was more of a controlling measure. Underneath his charming and quiet demeanor, the young noble was actually very controlling and manipulative and to him she was more of a prize than anything else, a lovely music box to hang onto. Still, while Anira kept up the appearance of being happy, Al kept his feelings for her hidden. With her living in the house of his employers, he found himself running into her more often, and on occasion he'd even take time to visit her after his shift was over. Eventually Daeduin's nature began to show itself more often and more openly to Anira, and she began to confide in Al when he would mistreat her. Unable to sit by and watch the woman he loved get hurt any longer, he got over his fears and confronted Daeduin before helping Anira escape from the house. He knew that he had just put his job in jeopardy over a girl who didn't love him back, but he felt it was worth it.

With Anira still recovering emotionally from the ordeal, he continued to visit her, now at her parents' home, to provide a shoulder for her to cry on. She had admitted that one of the reasons why she was with Daeduin was because she thought he was the one who had been leaving those sweet notes for her. Surprised by this revelation, and honestly ashamed that his silence had led to her abuse, he had admitted to what he had done and apologized to her. She was hesitant to enter into another relationship so soon, but at least recognized that the words she had fallen in love with came from the person who had become her dearest friend, so she gave him a chance. He was very gentle with her and didn't try to rush things, so their courtship lasted for quite some time. By the time she finally agreed to marry him, he was well past ready for it but knew that she would be worth the wait. She had proved to be so kind and generous and sweet and with time had brought him out of his withdrawn state and made him truly happy.

They were married and left to do some traveling around the continent as a pair of bards, quite excited for a bit of adventure and romance and considered it to be their honeymoon. They thought that the world was all in front of them and they could decide on something more practical later on, but for now they had each other and that was all that mattered to them. But even this period of happiness was doomed to be cut short by tragedy, as one night as they were camped out in the woods on their travels, they were attacked by some demons. Al had never received any formal combat training, so he was ill-equipped to defend Anira. He lost an eye in the combat, but Anira fared much worse, losing her life as a demon blade pierced her chest. Overcome by grief and anger, he didn't know whether to keep fighting to slay her murderers or just give in to the inevitable and join her in death. The decision was quickly taken from him and he blacked out. The Evangelical Angel Alluvium awoke.

When Al came to, he initially thought it had all been a nightmare as he found his wife sleeping peacefully beside him. She rolled over to face him and he reached over to gently stroke her cheek, only to find that she wasn't really there as his hand passed right through her. Greatly disturbed by this, he got to his feet and saw the destruction around him. He saw the real Anira lying elsewhere and rushed to her side. He cradled her lifeless form in his arms and wept. Wishing for nothing more than to allow himself to die and join her, he was confronted by the now awake angel in his mind who explained to him what had happened. His intense emotions had brought out the angel, who had slain all of the remaining demons and healed his wounds. The great ordeal had also awoken the gift of sight within him, which explained the vision of the sleeping Anira that he had seen. Al begged and pleaded with the angel to be allowed to die, but Alluvium explained to him that he can only pass from one host to another down through family lines, and so Al could not be allowed to die until he had produced an heir for Alluvium to pass on to. Al absolutely refused to move on and mate with another woman, and so this is an argument that they still continue to have to this day.

He carried his fallen wife for a distance before finding a more suitable place in the forest to bury her, not wanting her to be in the ground tainted by the blood of those who had killed her. He remained there for quite some time grieving over his loss before he finally came to terms with the fact that the angel was not going to let him die anytime soon. So he picked himself up and staggered his way back to Erufu Capital and the local temple there, fighting his way through visions the entire way. They were at least able to help care for him through this tough period and made for him an eye patch with runes on it to cover his regenerated eye and keep the visions at bay so that he could function better in the world.

Everything in the capital city reminded him too much of her, and so after a few months he moved on and settled in Endal. There he gave his name as "Lorhen," which means "dream eyes." He felt that as his life had been touched so dramatically that it would be appropriate to take on a new name. He began studying in the Temple of Life, learning more and memorizing the tales of the gods, the lore of his people, their heroic feats in history and various fables, some of the factual events actually playing out before his eyes.

Hundreds of years have passed, yet he still serves there, utilizing his gift to help others see visions that they might need to see and his soothing singing voice to pass on the stories to the children in the city. He never leaves unless the visions call on him to go somewhere else, and while he has made a few friends over the years, he still keeps most people at a distance.
